Do they have any significance? Do they represent anything, or do you think they were just put there by Kikiyama to creep us out?Post any theories (no matter how wild they are). I'm really curious. :3I've seen them here and there, mostly in forest areas. One teleports you to the teleport maze, and I saw one in a secluded area in a forest next to a tree. One Let's Play video mentioned that he got to it once, but not how; anyone know?

Some people think they signify death.
>>814It's most likely that, since they appear at the last scene of the game too.
I always called them death chimes, because they are, in a dream logic, chimes and seem to be associated with death. Both chimes are near or leading to the dead body, and you know, they appear in the credits. By the way, did anyone notice the blood splatter is almost in the shape of Madotsuki?
The death one seems the most obvious. I feel kinda stupid for not realizing that. >_>You know, since they appear at the end, it always made me feel that it was still a dream and that (spoilers) didn't really happen.>>821Yikes, didn't notice that.

>>822Yikes to what?
They probably are something in Japanese folklore. \o/
>>841 The other dude pointed out that the blood splatter looks a little like Madotsuki.>>845 Yeah, as in the picture I figured they had something to do with priests or something.

>>846It's just a general blood splatter. It's everywhere.
Double posting, butI just went to one of these guys. He doesn't react to anything. I can't kill him, he won't come to me when I meow, he still moves when the stoplight is red.Are they really the only creatures Madotsuki can't do any harm?
>>850Do you mean the mouth-monsters or the jellyfish dudes? The Jellyfish I found on the highway near Shitai (the dead guy) won't die and won't react to the cat. I don't know if they all react this way or not, I'm too lazy to go find the other ones right now. |D

>>852Yeah, the Jellyfish near Shitai. The other one, in the forest, that teleports to the maze, doesn't react to anything too. He just teleports you.

Now that I'm coming out my shyness and posting more I might as well get a name. =w=>>854Since they're pretty much invincible and as others said seem to represent death, I think this symbolizes that Madotsuki (or any living thing, for that matter) can't avoid or manipulate death.I know it's not very deep, but that's what I think. |D
They might also represent "real life"; All the others are her dreams and she can do anything she wants to them. But she can't do anything to change reality. And I realize this doesn't make any sense.

>>869 It makes sense. ..sorta. I think. You know, in most people's dreams (or at least mine D:) no matter how abstract they are, some piece of reality seems to be present. Sometimes it's symbolized in a strange way (going by the theory of Jellyfish guys symbolizing death and reality- I mean, it's a jellyfish. That jingles.) At first glance the jellyfish is just another dream creature, but it has a deeper meaning if you look into it. Although some dreams don't make much sense and some things in dreams don't symbolize anything (like some random things Kikiyama put in there just for kicks), your subconscious bases what you dream on how you interpret things in reality. Take Monoko for example- a popular theory is that she was a car accident victim Madotsuki saw. She is so shocked by her mangled body that in her dream world Monoko looks... well, you know, when you use the stoplight. Even though it's more obvious in her case, sometimes you never even realize some things symbolize anything at all when they do.....durr, I hope that made sense.I've been sleep deprived the past few days, so.. excuse my possible lack of logic.

>>849Whose to say Madotsuki didn't create the blood splatters subconsciously in her likeness?Don't sound like a disapproving dick, if you are. The Yume Nikki community shouldn't be like that. I think this because you responded in the exact way people disregard the keyhole theory. However, Madotsuki smears have a better reason to show up! Last edited 09/06/08(Mon)22:20.

>>876Update: Stand next to the smear facing it on the left and see how much it looks like a shadow or distorted reflection, like in water.
>>868You can manipulate death though. You have the choice to kill yourself and you can kill others in the game too.
"Once called the passing-bell, or the soul-bell, the death-bell is still a modern fact in some parts of the country, being rung, according, to rules, on the death of a parishioner"
>>876Sorry... I didn't mean to make it sound like that or anything...
Jellyfish guys go in creatures, I think.
>>880Manipulation of death is a bit controversial, but what I meant is that death in itself can't be avoided.>>887Oops. D:Well, it's still Yume Nikki-related, so..

>>877Oh wow, you must be one of those people who sees jesus on a piece of toast. It's a bloodstain image used over and over by the video game programmer(sort of) who created this work of entertaining fiction.

>>876Keyhole? you best be trollin nigga.
>>901I wouldn't call him/her a troll. I've heard others say that the blood stain looks like a keyhole or a key, too. With that said, I don't think looks like either.
>>884I didn't realise it, but I sound like I'm trolling. Depression is like mind cancer, you know.Others:STFU. You're troll baiting now.
