Hey, I dunno how many of you have seen this or not, but apparently in the Mother world there seems to be some sort of game error or something. It's shown in the following video:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PxwwFdskgo4(You can skip near the end if you want to see the "glitch" in action.)I don't know how this is done, but the reason I'm bringing this up is the fact the game screen gradually gets more and more corrupted and eventually you actually wake up from the dream. The game does not crash. This leads me to believe this may have been done intentionally. It may be a tip of the hat to other old games that actually do crash like that, or even some experience Kikiyama had with Mother that may have scared him or something (you usually wake up when something scary happens in a dream). Could anyone give thoughts, or maybe look into the game files to see if such an event is there, or if it's legitimately a glitch? Last edited 09/05/20(Wed)18:47.

It's not a glitch; the fact that you wake up afterwards should be proof of that, but in the music folder you can also find the nasty sound it makes in the end. I could be wrong, but I think you activate it by using the stoplight (perhaps multiple times). For the record, this event gives me more brix than anything else in the game.

>>584Its not a "Glitch"But rather its an event that is called "Glitch", probably because it that takes place in Famicom/Pixel world.>>585You cannot use stoplight there. (because it will go dark. Technically the only effect you can use is the lamp)You activate the effect by talking to that wall several times.(and yeah I brix'd also) Last edited 09/05/20(Wed)20:32.

I haven't done this, but I know it'll freak me the fuck out.I have nightmares all the time about my classic games glitching, and being unable to turn off my Genesis, even by unplugging it etc.

Oh man, I was just there a little while ago, and I turned back because I didn't think there was anything there. Boo.
That scared me.
>>590Glad to hear I'm not the only person with a fear of games glitching.Does anyone else have that weird phobia? At first I was freaked out by this event, but when I tried it myself I wasn't as freaked out. But still, when trying to get something like Uboa, if you don't get it the first couple tries you start getting anxious and more afraid. Well, that's what happens to me, anyways.

>>604Yeah, I definitely get creeped out by games glitching up. It's just wrong. For some reason, the worst sort for me is when you go outside the boundaries of maps in three-dimensional games, leaving you falling in a gaping void, often with a background. It really, really freaks me out, but I'm not sure why.

...Every single time I come on here I find something else about this game. The depth of this is just amazing.>>604This actually used to be my biggest fear when I was younger. :| I don't completely understand it, but the majority of my nightmares involved something (sometimes the world) glitching up in a very game-y manner.

>>604Yes holy shit. I think it's because it's so alien; there's nothing like glitches in real life.
>>604I remember having trouble to sleep when I first found out TR's Rockin' section on Missingno, and spent a lot of time reading that.So yeah, me too.
>>619Other people read TRR too?Anyways, thanks for confirming this guys. I'm actually kind of surprised at your guys' fear of glitches. They never particularly bothered me. In fact, I hunt them out a lot of the time on my own and play with them a lot. When I fall through the ground or something I think it's funny. I never really see games coherently to the real world, just a program attempting to mirror aspects of it, and like any program, the creator isn't perfect, and the program always has some sort of flaws in them. I actually enjoy exploiting games, I guess I see it as trumping the programmers. You know what did creep me out a little though? In Warioware: Touched! there is a record player that plays songs on it (herp). You can speed up or slow down the record by using the touch screen. If you speed up "Ashley's Theme," the theme of a demonic-ish witch character, you can, or I can at least, hear pretty clearly her saying "I have granted kids too hell." This is probably coincidence, but interesting nonetheless. And some people say they can't hear it so, meh.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9agyXojlyKkIt's more clear if you try it yourself.

>>649What, seriously? I just find that funny (and along the lines of "Paul is dead"). Though, backwards recordings used to scare the crap out of me, and that sounds sort of similar.Even though they scare me, I also really like looking for glitches. It's fun and interesting, though I don't know if I would enjoy it quite as much if I wasn't freaked out by them. I can't say I get satisfaction from "trumping the programmers", though.

I was fiddling around with the music files of this game a few minutes ago, and I think the sound that occurs at the end of the "glitch" is listed as BGM 032. Just thought I'd mention that for the sake of inquiring minds.>>649>>652I'll admit I find the WarioWare thing funny in the same sort of terms of "Paul is dead," too. A lot of said backmasking that is found in music makes me laughs; seriously, I think a lot of people only hear "subliminal messages" in these sorts of occurrences due to the power of suggestion. I know that there are actually instances of bands placing backwards messages in songs, but they sound so different than these "subliminal messages."I'm amazed at how there people are people who go out of their ways to find and document glitches in games. It's crazy how people have found so many glitches in the Metroid series, and have used these glitches to expand upon their exploration and beat the games with certain requirements. It's almost obsessive. Last edited 09/05/26(Tue)20:52.

Glitches are fucking creepy.Sometimes they're awesome and rather fun, but most of the time I feel the need to go to a toilet with a brick shaped drainage hole.
>>604>>619Oh god, I hate hate hate glitches. I had trouble sleeping one day, about 2 years ago, because I spent the whole night reading about Pokemon Glitches.
>>693I can't say I blame you; some of them are pretty scary. It would be pretty thrilling to purposefully go looking for them, but I don't want to risk permanently ruining everything forever.
Actually, I was pretty sure this map was just a test map, since there were tons of events. Then I saw the video, and said, "Hey, I know this place."Here's the map, if anyone's interested in seeing how many events there are for the "Glitch" effect.>>705I had a GameBoy once, and I knew about some glitches. I just wasn't expecting my game to freeze when I got a glitch pokemon. That kinda traumatized me...

I remember once a big bug somehow got into my gameboy color slot, and I put the cartridge in and started playing the game and I could see it crawling around the screen. It didn't kill it or anything, and I could see it super clear. I was a small kid at that time, and I don't remember if it scared me or not. I actually find it kind of funny right now.
I could never get this to work. I talk to the wall... Nothing happens. Is it just a random chance thing? Do I have to keep waking and retrying until it works?
>>731This particular event is not present in older versions of the game - when I checked my original copy of the game in RPGMaker, the only event I saw in this room was that of the stairway, and when I checked a newer version of the game, this particular room was full of events related to the glitch-event. Bump because I have v0.10 and I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Can someone explain what I might be doing wrong?
>>755Hm, looks like I was a bit mistaken... I just took a closer look with RPGMaker, and it appears that there's two rooms like this - one where the glitch-event is possible, and another one where it isn't. It also appears that wether or not you're taken to the glitch-capable room depends on a random variable. But I'm not exactly an expert with RPGMaker, so I could be mistaken once more...

>>761Random? Can you tell me the odds, whether it's 1/16, or 1/64 or whatever?
As far as I can tell, it's set up so that you have a 1/3 chance of being able to activate the "glitch" when you fall asleep. If you can't do it, you have to wake up and try again.

>>588No, the empty room with that weird wall is lit on its own. You don't need to use the lamp there.
