Now you know.

I found another "Stabbing grounds" place in the white desert. C: You know that...box-thing that has some kind of eye on it? Stab that enough times and you'll be transported to a void with creatures to stab to you heart's content~

>> No.336   [Delete]   [Edit]

You know the room in the Numbers World with all the red eyes and the blue thing on the floor?
....Nothing happens if you stab them all. ;_;

It also took me a while to realize that the leg in the strange planet could be stabbed, and otherwise would play 3 notes.

I noticed that some of the music (like in the mall and the weird blocks world that leads you to the mother-looking area) is just other tunes slowed down. Like, the mall's music is BGM_007 slowed down, and the blocks world (Not the one that gives you hat/scarf) is BGM_014 slowed down. Oh, and the top of the mall, right before the witch event, is just the witch event's music slowed down a little.

Eh, they're not huge discoveries, just random notes I made.

"You know the room in the Numbers World with all the red eyes and the blue thing on the floor?

I wish I had seen this before starting to stab them :C You kinda hoped something would happen to the blue floor zit, right?

>> No.353   [Delete]   [Edit]

Yeah, but hey, at least you got coins for stabbing them sometimes since there were so many.

Press 1 to hold the knife in your left hand. Makes no difference at all, but I like my Madotsuki left-handed,

>> No.511   [Delete]   [Edit]

Yeah, that's crazy. I never noticed any music similarities until you mentioned it. And I even noticed a new one, too.

The room with the E-face guy right before you get the flute has the same music as the title screen, only slowed down.

>> No.520   [Delete]   [Edit]

Here's a vid about what I discovered, how to summon ships at the hole in the Strange Planet

>> No.521   [Delete]   [Edit]

This is pretty minor, but when you see Madotsuki in a closet, you hear the "dame" sound effect (like when you try to use an effect that that can't be used) as the doors open. I know very close to no Japanese, but doesn't that mean "hopeless" or "useless"?

... :(

>> No.532   [Delete]   [Edit]

"dame" is a negation of action, means something like "can't" or "no"
"muri" relates to action and means the action won't work and can be translate as "useless" or "hopeless"

>> No.555   [Delete]   [Edit]

I don't see why people make Uboa seem like such a central character.

I mean, Poniko sure, but there's a 1-64 chance that you'll get uboa.

>> No.568   [Delete]   [Edit]

Uboa is sort of legendary because of his rarity. He's the most scary thing in the game if you go by surprise factor. He's adorable to most once you look at him for a while. It's also probably because he was just one character who happened to be a little more talked about in the early days of the game.

He's rather mysterious, and people like to consider what he might represent or what his relationship to Poniko is: Friend, self, lover? And don't think the lover possibility hasn't been, um, explored.

In short, he's fucking awesome, that's why.

Here's something I just discovered recently. The big goblin guy takes five stabs to kill, and he always gives 200 yen.

I thought that was kinda neat. It's like a sort of "boss fight" inside the video game world.

>> No.788   [Delete]   [Edit]

Minor glitch:

If you use the speed glitch with the knife, and sit down and stand back up, the controls freeze. You can't even open the menu; you have to alt+f4 out of the game.

>> No.790   [Delete]   [Edit]

I got this glitch after waking up after dropping all of my effects at the nexus. I went outside and the ladder off the roof wasn't there. I pinched myself and I somehow woke up again. My head was back to normal, but the ladder still wasn't there. I went to sleep and checked that all my effects were at the nexus, and they were. I woke up again, and the ladder STILL wasn't there. I had to restart the game.

>> No.791   [Delete]   [Edit]

Ouch, that's gotta suck. Did you try picking all your effects back up and putting them down again?

>> No.792   [Delete]   [Edit]

i agree with this post. that would be the easiest thing to do.

>> No.794   [Delete]   [Edit]

No, you can hit '1' again and still have the speed glitch. I've tried it. I think the only way you can have both the knife and the speed glitch and have both work is to hit '1' twice, anyways, since that's when the knife is visible.

>> No.795   [Delete]   [Edit]

>>794 you can hit '1' again and still have the speed glitch
Well that's just the darnedest thing! When it happened to me I tried '1' and couldn't move, and '9' didn't wake me. The controls really were locked.

But now that you mentioned it and I tried it again, '1' and '9' worked. I guess it was just a fluke?

This thing passes in the water stream in the Numbers World. Reacts to Cat and Stoplight (as well as the wheel people). Monoko isn't the only one that reacts strangely to the stoplight...

If not, you should get to name him.

Also, who are these 'wheel people' that you're talking about?

>> No.809   [Delete]   [Edit]

Ah, the wheels with feet that walk around the Number World, they change face and colour with Cat and Stoplight.
That thing? He closes its eyes and flops down its "wings" when you use Stoplight, while it flashes in a different pattern if you use Cat. I 'unno, I pretty much suck at giving names...

>>798 It takes a long time to appear.
If you spam the meow it's not so bad.

Also, I guess this isn't really a "discovery" since it's pretty obvious, but somehow I never noticed before: When Madotsuki meows, she's holding a gold coin like one of those lucky cat statues.

If you meow at those blue women in the area where you get the witch effect, they move toward you and their faces change.

If you meow in the room right next to where you get the flute, that red 3-faced guy sorta glares at you.

Is it faster to go through Wilderness A to get to the barracks than going the other (though it depends on where you get to hell from) route?

-Forest World -> Face Carpet world
-Face Carpet world -> Hell
-Hell-> the docks
-Creature from the docks (not the red man) -> right before the barracks -> Barracks

I'll have to go look for myself to see if it's easier to get to the barracks from Wilderness A or my regular route p:

It's the same one. It'll take you to either the room with the 'a' or the one with the eye. I don't know if any specific factors determine which room you go to, or if it's just random, since I've been to both rooms.

Because I have no life, I made a list with some weird things I found in RPG Maker 2003
I know the swirly purple thing was mentioned before as an old element of the game, however it's still present in the tileset of the current version.
The ones that intrigue me the most are the last two, the reflection of the town and the broken glass. What did Kikiyama wish to do with those?

>> No.1106   [Delete]   [Edit]

Broken glass looks more like a cobweb.
Also the first image with "shrug" next to it looks like puzzle pieces of some sort. Almost like tetris blocks but the arches ruin it D:
Maybe they were originally meant to go in Mado's room or something?

>> No.1108   [Delete]   [Edit]

The game isn't finished. Let's encourage the completion of the game! Also, the mirror was the original way to get Fat. I think that the game is probably being redone entirely on a better medium.

File: 1245605453252.png -(27.5 KiB, 708x606) Thumbnail displayed, click image for full size.

Because it gave you the Fat effect, some people think that it's a fun house mirror. Though, I wonder if it was actually intended to be a critique of how many girls and young women tend to see themselves as "fat" when they look in mirrors.

It was located in the Hell maze in version 0.09 of the game. (Look at the map I had posted.)

>> No.1118   [Delete]   [Edit]

Since the town reflection and the broken glass are in the same window, perhaps you were meant to use one of the effects to break it? Maybe you could even stab it.

>> No.1124   [Delete]   [Edit]

Stab any normal Toriningen next to a bed. Immediately get into it and wait for her to walk to the right side of it, or anywhere she'll get stuck. Get out of bed and turn invisible with Triangle Kerchief. Now, when you go to any world, all normal Toriningen are berserk until one teleports you and are extreme speed.

>> No.1141   [Delete]   [Edit]

You don't have to get in the bed to have that happen. You can just run away immediately after stabbing them and all the Toriningen will be berserk when you encounter them.

Also the one in the candle world has the ability to run faster than you can even with the speed glitch.

>> No.1153   [Delete]   [Edit]

Maybe you can do this during the "crick in the neck" glitch...?

>> No.1155   [Delete]   [Edit]

That's not a glitch.
There is a really small chance you wake up with it and it is done on purpose.
And it only happens in reality in the game.

>> No.1158   [Delete]   [Edit]

Now I sorta wanna see the ending happen with the crick in the neck.

You're unable to trigger the ending with the crick in the neck, as far as I am concerned.

>> No.1172   [Delete]   [Edit]

The singing guy in the mall will stop singing when the Stoplight is used on him. Also, the Thing with the Quivering Jaw's Jaw will stop quivering.

Secondly, if you go into the room before it, and stand in the middle of the room and hold up, the view will scroll upwards, showing more of the... thing.

I thought I would share the facesets that are included in the game's files. I think it's interesting that Kikiyama had an idea for a "censor bar" effect, but decided to scrap this effect; there sprites (both regular and Famicom versions) of Madsotsuki included in the game's files. I'm also wondering what the deal is with the grey faceset and the one of the drop-like spirit; I wonder if those were going to be full-fledged effects, or something similar to the snowman "effect."

Oh, and notice that the crick in the neck is something that is represented by a faceset like how the effects are. That's some evidence that this is not a glitch.

>> No.1175   [Delete]   [Edit]

The drop one was probably an alternate concept for what the triangle kerchief would make you look like when activated.

>> No.1183   [Delete]   [Edit]

Or Kikiyama was planing to have them there, but never put them in in the actual release. He could have planned to have them there in future versions.

>> No.1189   [Delete]   [Edit]

It's not necessary, but rather, a strategy.

>> No.1190   [Delete]   [Edit]

Censor bar(?) and Grayscale are unreleased Effects, it seems. Kikiyama may have cut the number to make it 25. Spirit form is obviously related to Triangle Kerchief's secondary form, but he didn't want to make another sprite sheet yet. He instead made a substitute.

Well, if you check the game on RPG Maker, there is place for 4 more effects on the Item List. I don't think that really means anything, though...
Also, the Censor Bar thing has been sprited and it's still on the sprite sheets. Also does the grayscale Madotsuki. Which means Kikiyama might use it in the future...?
There are also sprites for Madotsuki standing, walking, sitting and on the chair for the crick-on-the-neck.

Yeah, actually I knew that it was a blindfold. I only referred to it as a censor bar because I heard someone else call it that, and it kind of stuck with me considering that it actually does sort look like one from the front.

It seems as if the Neon effect was the last (so far) effect that Kikiyama came up with because its face set is on a "sheet" of its own, even though there is enough room for it on the second sheet.

I also saw something similar at the cliff-side- look at the picture. I know for a fact it works on Mars, but I'll go back and double-check.

I meowed forever on the stairs and nothing happened, fffffff. Sorry. D;
Although, at the cliff I mentioned before, meowing at the one that's in the sky makes it move around and disappear, then come back again.

You know with all this U.F.O. stuff you think some one would include it into Yume Nikki's possible character and reasons for her actions.

>> No.1223   [Delete]   [Edit]

Madotsuki and her forbidden lover/favorite music teacher Seccom shared an interest in space and sci-fi. Seccom swore that someday he would get a spaceship and take Madotsuki with him and they would be together and explore the cosmos with each other.

Seccom died of a drug overdose before he could ever fulfill that promise or even admit that it was some kind of idiosyncratic euphemism, and Madotsuki still dreams of him and all the great things in space that she'll never get to see now.

Okay, this takes a bit of luck to pull off, but you can melt as a snowman!
You know that place with the fire right before the room with the poop hair? If you're a snowman and you stay there long enough you will begin to melt until you're like a snowman severed head! But, the problem is if it's snowing it puts out the fire.
What you have to do is go to the snow world and turn into a snowman there, without activating the Yuki-Onna and go in the bed in the snow world as a snowman (yes, apparently you can do that). If you're lucky enough it will take you to that staircase with the hands. Just stay a snowman and go to the room of fire and wait a few seconds to start melting.
If you don't teleport you have to wake up and try again.
Neat little find! :-)

>> No.1269   [Delete]   [Edit]

It was probably added to make both sheets consistent.

>> No.1271   [Delete]   [Edit]

confirmed. You literally melt until there is nothing left except the scarf, hat, and a puddle. You can't move at this point. Pressing 1 will change you back into mado wearing the hat+scarf.

>> No.1275   [Delete]   [Edit]

Don't try this while speedboosting with the Hat and Scarf (I did this so I could walk down those damn steps faster). If you can get a bed to teleport you, as soon as you get to the bottom of the stairs, you'll take a few steps and then she'll change back from a snowman to a person on her own. I spent like an hour trying to get to this place as the Snowman and was really disappointed when she changed back. >.>

edit: Fortunately it didn't take me an hour to get the bed to teleport me again! It's fine to use the speedboost to get to the bed, as long as you don't activate it using the Hat and Scarf. I just bike-speedboost'd and it worked fine.

First of all your grammar was simply terrible there. Pic related. Second of all, no there is not such a thing as a person of Japanese ancestry with blonde hair. They would smother the child and kill the mother for disgracing the family with foreign blood.

For every time you cross a certain point in the tunnel (the part where the green Uterus-shaped thing starts looping) a variable gets increased, so the more you wake up, enter and exit that tunnel, eventually the manhole will open, and and if you do it even more after that, it'll be the red thing, eventually.

Go to the Dark World and search for a gray gate northeast from where you start.

In the desert area go west into the next area then north into an open area, and search around until you find a bunch of vines that look like a passageway. (It takes a while to find it since the area's so big..) Go north through the passage and through the fence. Go east through the next two areas and you'll find the staircase.

To not spoil anything else I'll just stop there. I hope my directions are specific enough. XD

(Unless having a certain number of them triggers something? But there's no proof of that yet.)

I don't know if this is a discovery or not, but I noticed you can get to hell's maze through the neon world. Pic related, that door that looks like a wall takes you to this weird place with crazy floor tiles, follow the path and in the next screen there are red transporter blocks.

>> No.2121   [Delete]   [Edit]

If you dissect the original game in RPG maker, you get alot of unused events and randomt riggers that do nothing.

>> No.2135   [Delete]   [Edit]

I'm not sure if this really counts as a discovery, and some people might already know, but takofuusen's appearance chances aren't checked when you enter the Monochrome Desert, but rather every few seconds you're in there (or something like that).
That's why his appear chance is so high; otherwise you'd be seeing him all the time, rather than him floating across the screen at complete random and scaring the crap out of you.

>> No.2137   [Delete]   [Edit]

I had no idea!! I guess that really means anyone can see Takofuusen if they're patient enough.

I also had no idea this door existed. Neon World is so confusing and repetitive.

I just ran a little statistical simulation. If the Takofuusen check is made every second, then you have roughly a 50% chance of seeing Takofuusen if you're in the Monochrome Desert for forty minutes, rising to a ~60% chance if you spend an hour there, and a ~90% chance if you spend two hours there.

>> No.2145   [Delete]   [Edit]

The bed doesn't shift when Uboa appears. It stays right where it is and changes colour as normal.

And the desk lamp is not always on; when you turn the lights off as normal (without Uboa appearing), it is plain to see that the desk lamp is off.

(I hope I got the replies right; this is my first time posting here)

It'd actually be quicker just to medamaude and take the "long" way there.

>> No.2157   [Delete]   [Edit]

It's probably checked every time you take a step. It is RPGMaker, after all.

And yeah, what >>2135 said. The reason the Takofuusen thing is so high is because if it were 1/64, you'd be seeing it like every ten seconds.

Actually, I think Octopus Balloon/Takofuusen appears just randomly, whether you're standing or not. I changed the value to a 1 in 100 chance, so that it would definitely appear. While I was walking around, he flew by. After that I just stood still, waiting for him again for a minute, and he did fly by again, and I hadn't moved.

Oh, and the eye thing you can stab (as shown) teleports you with a 1 in 30 chance. I was led to believe that it teleported you after 10 stabs...

Random facts concerning Uboa:

  • of course you can't exit the room.
  • no effects seem to have usage except for Cat.
  • switching light back really does nothing - tried it several hundred times.
  • effects menu is disabled in the other place if you got there with chair.
  • medamauding and revisitting Poniko apparently does nothing (tried 3 times in one dream).

Medamauding after using Yuki onna or Umbrella resets the weather.
Using cat at Seccom's ship works also on view behind the window.

The place where you jump off the building and fly as a witch has a cat there. When you go there multiple times the cat changes positions. (I tried this first when I played the game before I even had the witch power. Now that I think about it the black cat is a huge clue to the witch thing...)

There's a faster way to do it.

-Sit in chair
-Equip yuki onna
-Equip hat and scarf
-Push your chair out
-Turn into a snowman and back
-Equip and unequip yuki onna (optional, to stop the snow)
-Equip bicycle (or other effect, but bicycle is fastest)
-Sit back down
-Get back up

Also, this trick is all over the Japanese fansites, but it seems like most western players don't know about it.

I went looking for Seahorsey today but found something I've never seen documented instead.

The hut this is found in is near the back fence with the trippy liquid bullshit. The corridor starts off like the building with the white flowers, then gets to these huts. The eyes follow you.

When you get to the end, it dumps you behind a wall in Mural World.

I'm now stabbing Seahorsey repeatedly hoping for a freak teleport.

The spitting head things? There's two ways into there. One is from the red labyrinth. The simpler way is through the eyeball world. If you can find that giant blue head with the blood pouring out, go in there and you'll wind up with the spitting heads. A landmark to watch out for would be that patch of eyeballs flanked by arms. Go east of that, and you'll hit the bleeding head. There are other heads too that bleed, but they look like uboa or seccom and are not blue---you'll know this head when you see it.

>> No.3356   [Delete]   [Edit]

here again for this post here: >>3272

I found this rather unclear until it suddenly dawned on me, but it is still a rather long shotted idea, but very cool all the same.

To anyone who is not seeing it either, my mistake was that I thought the ghost mixed in with the surroundings, because the sprite alone just wasn't doing it for me. If you look at the "toes" as "piano legs", it suddenly draws itself together.

This would certainly make sense though, given how stabbing it changes the tune the ghost sings. Anyone care to hypothesize how this blends in with the bleeding the ghost is experiencing, and how this would tie in together with pianos and masada as well?

So after I fell asleep I turned on the television in Madotsuki's room, which normally makes the screen display an eyeball looking thing, right? This time it had an aztec monkey face and then a full blown full screen event with two rows of red and yellow aztec monkeys flashing across the screen. It stops after a while and the monkey face stays on the screen until you turn it off, and turning it back on makes it display the normal image again.

This might be old news but today I talked to the hat and scarf person in block world and was transported to monochrome world. While I was there there was a big block with an eye on it. I don't know if this is a glitch really, but if you use the Cat effect and stand there meowing your arse off for a few minutes, the Toris shake their heads in rapid succession as if to snap themselves out of it

I used the Snowman/chair cheat to get 4xspeed chair and explored. I found out
A: You can't reach FC world on a chair.
B: You can't reach the sky garden
C: Big Red doesn't like the taste of chairs.
D: Uboa doesn't give a crap what you're riding.
