Sweeeeet.
I found another "Stabbing grounds" place in the white desert. C: You know that...box-thing that has some kind of eye on it? Stab that enough times and you'll be transported to a void with creatures to stab to you heart's content~
You know the room in the Numbers World with all the red eyes and the blue thing on the floor?....Nothing happens if you stab them all. ;_;It also took me a while to realize that the leg in the strange planet could be stabbed, and otherwise would play 3 notes.I noticed that some of the music (like in the mall and the weird blocks world that leads you to the mother-looking area) is just other tunes slowed down. Like, the mall's music is BGM_007 slowed down, and the blocks world (Not the one that gives you hat/scarf) is BGM_014 slowed down. Oh, and the top of the mall, right before the witch event, is just the witch event's music slowed down a little.Eh, they're not huge discoveries, just random notes I made.

Press 1 to hold the knife in your left hand. Makes no difference at all, but I like my Madotsuki left-handed,

This is pretty minor, but when you see Madotsuki in a closet, you hear the "dame" sound effect (like when you try to use an effect that that can't be used) as the doors open. I know very close to no Japanese, but doesn't that mean "hopeless" or "useless"?... :(

I don't see why people make Uboa seem like such a central character.I mean, Poniko sure, but there's a 1-64 chance that you'll get uboa.

>>555Uboa is sort of legendary because of his rarity. He's the most scary thing in the game if you go by surprise factor. He's adorable to most once you look at him for a while. It's also probably because he was just one character who happened to be a little more talked about in the early days of the game. He's rather mysterious, and people like to consider what he might represent or what his relationship to Poniko is: Friend, self, lover? And don't think the lover possibility hasn't been, um, explored. In short, he's fucking awesome, that's why.

>>779Yes, it's the crick in your neck. It's not a glitch. It's not much of a discovery though, sorry.
Here's something I just discovered recently. The big goblin guy takes five stabs to kill, and he always gives 200 yen.I thought that was kinda neat. It's like a sort of "boss fight" inside the video game world.

Minor glitch:If you use the speed glitch with the knife, and sit down and stand back up, the controls freeze. You can't even open the menu; you have to alt+f4 out of the game.

>>779I got this glitch after waking up after dropping all of my effects at the nexus. I went outside and the ladder off the roof wasn't there. I pinched myself and I somehow woke up again. My head was back to normal, but the ladder still wasn't there. I went to sleep and checked that all my effects were at the nexus, and they were. I woke up again, and the ladder STILL wasn't there. I had to restart the game.
>>790Ouch, that's gotta suck. Did you try picking all your effects back up and putting them down again?
>>791i agree with this post. that would be the easiest thing to do.
>>788No, you can hit '1' again and still have the speed glitch. I've tried it. I think the only way you can have both the knife and the speed glitch and have both work is to hit '1' twice, anyways, since that's when the knife is visible.
>>794 you can hit '1' again and still have the speed glitchWell that's just the darnedest thing! When it happened to me I tried '1' and couldn't move, and '9' didn't wake me. This thing passes in the water stream in the Numbers World. Reacts to Cat and Stoplight (as well as the wheel people). Monoko isn't the only one that reacts strangely to the stoplight...
>>796...I think I've never seen this before.Looking for it now.

He closes its eyes and flops down its "wings" when you use Stoplight, while it flashes in a different pattern if you use Cat. I 'unno, I pretty much suck at giving names...

I went to stab the Toriningen in the Candle world (that's the abnormally fast one) and it seems that when you stab it, it starts out normally, but then all of a sudden it SPEEDS UP HOLY FUCK and gets you. >>1025It's the same one. It'll take you to either the room with the 'a' or the one with the eye. I don't know if any specific factors determine which room you go to, or if it's just random, since I've been to both rooms.
Just something I noticed. Some of the characters will interact with you while "stopped" with the Stoplight, some won't. In the Mall, the faceless people will still make their noises when you talk to them, but the "Bleeding Block" guy won't tip over if you talk to him while he's stopped.

Because I have no life, I made a list with some weird things I found in RPG Maker 2003I know the swirly purple thing was mentioned before as an old element of the game, however it's still present in the tileset of the current version. The ones that intrigue me the most are the last two, the reflection of the town and the broken glass. What did Kikiyama wish to do with those?
>>1105Broken glass looks more like a cobweb. Also the first image with "shrug" next to it looks like puzzle pieces of some sort. Almost like tetris blocks but the arches ruin it D:Maybe they were originally meant to go in Mado's room or something?

>>1105>>1109Because it gave you the Fat effect, some people think that it's a fun house mirror. >>1105Since the town reflection and the broken glass are in the same window, perhaps you were meant to use one of the effects to break it? Maybe you could even stab it.
Stab any normal Toriningen next to a bed. Immediately get into it and wait for her to walk to the right side of it, or anywhere she'll get stuck. Get out of bed and turn invisible with Triangle Kerchief. Now, when you go to any world, all normal Toriningen are berserk until one teleports you and are extreme speed.
>>1124You don't have to get in the bed to have that happen. You can just run away immediately after stabbing them and all the Toriningen will be berserk when you encounter them. Also the one in the candle world has the ability to run faster than you can even with the speed glitch.

The singing guy in the mall will stop singing when the Stoplight is used on him. Also, the Thing with the Quivering Jaw's Jaw will stop quivering.Secondly, if you go into the room before it, and stand in the middle of the room and hold up, the view will scroll upwards, showing more of the... thing. I thought I would share the facesets that are included in the game's files. I think it's interesting that Kikiyama had an idea for a "censor bar" effect, but decided to scrap this effect; there sprites (both regular and Famicom versions) of Madsotsuki included in the game's files. I'm also wondering what the deal is with the grey faceset and the one of the drop-like spirit; I wonder if those were going to be full-fledged effects, or something similar to the snowman "effect."Oh, and notice that the crick in the neck is something that is represented by a faceset like how the effects are. That's some evidence that this is not a glitch.

.... Blanket Madotsuki...What a NEET.
You can talk to the wall that leads to KyuKyun. It makes a noise.
>>1192It's not a censorbar. It's a blindfold. You can see this on the back of the head. Thank you for pointing out these sprite sheets. They're great!Remember, Kikiyama updates about every year.
It's nothing really important, but I noticed that the thing in the pool near Nopperabou can be different. I usually see either just a shadow or the gray-dude that looks like a lighter version of a Shadow Man. I only saw the thing with the eye today.
You know, getting one person falling is rare, but two people? I'm still a newb to RPGMaker, so I can't figure out from the event coding how I got two this time.Video:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XqV54v1kgQc Last edited 09/06/25(Thu)16:18.

>>1197Yeah, actually I knew that it was a blindfold. I only referred to it as a censor bar because I heard someone else call it that, and it kind of stuck with me considering that it actually does sort look like one from the front. It seems as if the Neon effect was the last (so far) effect that Kikiyama came up with because its face set is on a "sheet" of its own, even though there is enough room for it on the second sheet.

You know with all this U.F.O. stuff you think some one would include it into Yume Nikki's possible character and reasons for her actions.
>>1218Madotsuki and her forbidden lover/favorite music teacher Seccom shared an interest in space and sci-fi. Do these sprites appear in the game? 'Cause they're in the files. Maybe this means Mado wasn't supposed to splat???
Some of these sprites are interesting. Some of them are from the crick in neck thing.
Speaking of which there are sprites for the cricked neck in the famicom world.WHAT DOES THIS MEAN!?!??!

Okay, this takes a bit of luck to pull off, but you can melt as a snowman! You know that place with the fire right before the room with the poop hair? If you're a snowman and you stay there long enough you will begin to melt until you're like a snowman severed head! But, the problem is if it's snowing it puts out the fire. What you have to do is go to the snow world and turn into a snowman there, without activating the Yuki-Onna and go in the bed in the snow world as a snowman (yes, apparently you can do that). If you're lucky enough it will take you to that staircase with the hands. Just stay a snowman and go to the room of fire and wait a few seconds to start melting. If you don't teleport you have to wake up and try again.Neat little find! :-)
>>1246It was probably added to make both sheets consistent.
>>1267confirmed. You literally melt until there is nothing left except the scarf, hat, and a puddle. You can't move at this point. Pressing 1 will change you back into mado wearing the hat+scarf.
>>1267Don't try this while speedboosting with the Hat and Scarf (I did this so I could walk down those damn steps faster). If you can get a bed to teleport you, as soon as you get to the bottom of the stairs, you'll take a few steps and then she'll change back from a snowman to a person on her own. I spent like an hour trying to get to this place as the Snowman and was really disappointed when she changed back. >.>edit: Fortunately it didn't take me an hour to get the bed to teleport me again! It's fine to use the speedboost to get to the bed, as long as you don't activate it using the Hat and Scarf. I just bike-speedboost'd and it worked fine. Last edited 09/06/29(Mon)01:36.

Second of all, no there is not such a thing as a person of Japanese ancestry with blonde hair. The "unused" effect that turns Madotsuki grey is actually used in the game. It's used for Madotsuki's ghost in the fake red maze.

if you press f9 while playing yn in rpg maker, a dialog comes up. it looks like you can mess with the switches in-game using it. can somebody more knowledgeable at rpg maker figure out what cool things, if any, are possible with this?(also f4 changes to fullscreen mode obviously, but also f5 changes the scale and f12 restarts the game)

I don't know if this is a discovery or not, but I noticed you can get to hell's maze through the neon world. Pic related, that door that looks like a wall takes you to this weird place with crazy floor tiles, follow the path and in the next screen there are red transporter blocks.
If you dissect the original game in RPG maker, you get alot of unused events and randomt riggers that do nothing.
I'm not sure if this really counts as a discovery, and some people might already know, but takofuusen's appearance chances aren't checked when you enter the Monochrome Desert, but rather every few seconds you're in there (or something like that). That's why his appear chance is so high; otherwise you'd be seeing him all the time, rather than him floating across the screen at complete random and scaring the crap out of you.
>>2135I had no idea!! I guess that really means anyone can see Takofuusen if they're patient enough.>>2110I also had no idea this door existed. Neon World is so confusing and repetitive.I just ran a little statistical simulation. If the Takofuusen check is made every second, then you have roughly a 50% chance of seeing Takofuusen if you're in the Monochrome Desert for forty minutes, rising to a ~60% chance if you spend an hour there, and a ~90% chance if you spend two hours there.

The bed doesn't shift when Uboa appears. It stays right where it is and changes colour as normal. And the desk lamp is not always on; when you turn the lights off as normal (without Uboa appearing), it is plain to see that the desk lamp is off.(I hope I got the replies right; this is my first time posting here)

Actually, I think Octopus Balloon/Takofuusen appears just randomly, whether you're standing or not. I changed the value to a 1 in 100 chance, so that it would definitely appear. While I was walking around, he flew by. After that I just stood still, waiting for him again for a minute, and he did fly by again, and I hadn't moved.Oh, and the eye thing you can stab (as shown) teleports you with a 1 in 30 chance. So I recently discovered a couple of places I had never found before. I have beaten the game three times now. The first is this booth. I had never found monoe before, so I went and found her, but at first I went in the wrong end of the tunnel. You walk for three screens and walk in... here... and all of a sudden a screaming severed heads out of nowhere starts floating in the sky, really freaked me out.

The other is when you go down to the sewer that leads to the picture gallery, if you immediately go in the other direction you'll encounter this blob who makes this face if you stab him.Yeah neither of these are too spectacular but still. Thanks to the guys who have posted cool things in this thread, I've tried a lot of them this playthrough.

The place where you jump off the building and fly as a witch has a cat there. When you go there multiple times the cat changes positions. (I tried this first when I played the game before I even had the witch power. Now that I think about it the black cat is a huge clue to the witch thing...)

The "leg-like" thing in the mars event (the one that plays notes when stabbed) is not a leg at all. IF you look at the sprite witht he right lighting, you can see that it's a toppled piano, with a ghost-like thing coming out of it.

If you can find that giant blue head with the blood pouring out, go in there and you'll wind up with the spitting heads. A landmark to watch out for would be that patch of eyeballs flanked by arms. Go east of that, and you'll hit the bleeding head. There are other heads too that bleed, but they look like uboa or seccom and are not blue---you'll know this head when you see it.

If you look at the "toes" as "piano legs", it suddenly draws itself together. This would certainly make sense though, given how stabbing it changes the tune the ghost sings. Anyone care to hypothesize how this blends in with the bleeding the ghost is experiencing, and how this would tie in together with pianos and masada as well?

I was playing just yesterday, wandering around the white desert. I heard some sort of unfamiliar music, then suddenly some large white creature flew over me. I had no idea what it was, and have never seen it in the area since. Has anyone else had an experience with something similar?
The creature you saw was Takofuusen. We have a thread about him over in /c/. He has less than a 1/1000 chance of appearing with each step you take in the white desert.

So after I fell asleep I turned on the television in Madotsuki's room, which normally makes the screen display an eyeball looking thing, right? This time it had an aztec monkey face and then a full blown full screen event with two rows of red and yellow aztec monkeys flashing across the screen. It stops after a while and the monkey face stays on the screen until you turn it off, and turning it back on makes it display the normal image again.I wish I got a screen capture. Sorry if everyone knows this. :/

I just learned that if you stab the guy where you get Flute effect, the music in the room stops. That scared the living daylights out of me when that happened...
I discovered a new Color scheme. It is red, and instead of the normal selection bird thing, its a pair of eyeballs.Though this isn't really a new discovery, I've seen a lot of people on Youtube with this scheme.

Nothing huge and life changing, but the big leg/eye creature on mars can be synced with the background music to get a nice harmony.

The guy with blood in place of a brain in the side room of the mall area. After you interact with him, he will not respond any longer to most effects, except cat. He won't move, but the gurgling noise will get faster for a few seconds.

This might be old news but today I talked to the hat and scarf person in block world and was transported to monochrome world. While I was there there was a big block with an eye on it. I stabbed it a couple of times (less than ten) and suddenly I was taken to a completely black plain with these strange eye-creatures. The room was very small. The creatures could be killed, but stabbing the eye block didn't take me back. I had to medamaude out of the room.

I just found out that you can easily play YN (and /fg/ versions) with a gamepad, even without xpadder or similar things. The only problem is that on YN, you use effects and stuff with the numbers on the keyboard, and there's nothing assigned to them on a gamepad.

That's just a small gate back to lego land, from up and to the left from head spinny guy. To get to head spinny guy, you have to get to the docks first.
Madotsuki gets a lot brighter if you wake up with the triangle kerchief on. (You need to be non-transparent, though.)
