or any of the similar games? It seems like one of the trademarks of the 'genre' is that all games are always v0.0n. Do you think this is just from sloth or because we might see Madotsuki's dream world extended greatly over the next few years?

I e-mailed him, and he said "currently there are no plans for continuation". Proof? Ask #uboachan, I used Monoko to translate it.

Post proof here.

If you think about it really hard, this fanfiction is weirder than Yume Nikki itself.

Props to the translating team and if kikiyama considered this ahead of time:

The phrase "gathering one's (personal) effects" connotes no-questions-asked. How many of you connect this phrase with being evicted, or security guards enforcing mass firings in a corporation?

now that you mention it...

It certainly gives another viewpoint on the game.

I'm sure some of you must have done something like this, too. I was thinking of editing a few things in Yume Nikki to improve my personal enjoyment. Mainly, rearranging the controls (if possible) and increasing event probability. Sometimes, trying dozens of times to see Uboa and friends gets annoying. So I downloaded RPG Maker 2003 and...what now? Can someone give me a few pointers? Is this even possible?

Last edited 09/08/06(Thu)13:04.

>> No.1743   [Delete]   [Edit]

Changing Event Probability:
1) Open up RPGMaker, open up YN, etc.
2) Hit F7, this puts you in the event-editing layer
3) Find the event you want (i.e. triggering Uboa)
4) Right click on the event , find the tab that has the coding for what to do if the event is triggered (With Uboa, rightclick on the event right below the lightswitch. There's only one tab so it's easy)
5) Find the line with 'Variable Oper : [-variable number here-] Set, Rnd 0-###' (In Uboa's case, it'd be Variable Oper: [0012,SADkslajflksa other stuff if it's not in japanese] Set, Rnd [0-63] )
6) Right click on the line, go to 'Edit'
7) Go down to 'Random Number between "# and #" and change the numbers to whatever you like
8) Test the game out. :D

As for changing controls, I have no clue what to do there. I think you should just leave it be, since in a lot of games they use 'Z', 'X', etc.

>> No.1749   [Delete]   [Edit]

making teleport events to different places might be useful. this is the only way to access the seekrit debug room and can make getting to uboa, mars or other not easily accessed places a lot easier.

  1. go into the event-editing layer
  2. select a place where you want to put the event and right-click on it
  3. select "place teleport event" in the menu that comes up
  4. go through the maps in the teleport event window and find a place you want to go
  5. select the position on the map you want to be teleported to and hit "ok"
  6. the event will be invisible though, so if you want to make it visible you need to edit the event after you create it and set an event graphic, which can be any of the npcs from the game (basically any graphic that is in the game's "charsets")

Awesome! Thanks!

I'm having trouble finding the variable for certain things, namely the ones that determine whether a bed in the dream sends you to the route to the spaceship, whether the wall that leads to Kyukyu-kun can be stabbed and whether Kareha appears in the numbers world.

>> No.1753   [Delete]   [Edit]

Kareha's just a slow-moving character, not really an event; just spam the cat effect until he gets there. Also, in the small time space between meowing he'll start moving back where he started, so you need to be quick.

Hello, Uboachan! I'm doing a fan-opening for Yume Nikki (pic is one of the scenes), and I need the game's logo (something that it's not pixel-like), or at least the name written in japanese; any of you can write it/post it?

(Also, if any of you have any experience whatsoever in audio cropping/editing and would like to help this poor idiot, I'd really, really appreciate it).

Here's a good link if you need any more in japanese:

You can write things in romaji and it can be in hiragana or katakana (you have to use caps if you want to use katakana though.)

Oh hello Uboachan, I have a very particular question for you today.
I see that a lot of people cried after finishing Yume Nikki, or even just watching the ending on youtube.
Tell me why.
I can't understand why you cried for a character whose you don't really know anything about, even if you are exploring her mind.
Why did you guys cry?
Is it because you guys created an idea of what Madotsuki's like in your minds?
Or just empathy?
Look, I really love and enjoy Yume Nikki, it scares me to death and I love every single pixel about it, but I didn't cry at the ending.
I didn't even feel sad, and that's strange because I usually cry a lot in sad scenes.
I can't understand.
Explain it to me, Uboachan.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noctambulism is always what I imagine happened there...

>> No.1700   [Delete]   [Edit]

That makes sense, being that Mado's eyes are always closed

>> No.1709   [Delete]   [Edit]

I didn't feel "sad" at the end of Yume Nikki because what happened was so sudden. It didn't really give me enough time to be sad.

All it really left me was uneasy. I think that's what the main drive of Yume Nikki is. It's not scary, it's unsettling.

Uhm.. I'm not sure where this belongs but how do I get a larger screenshot while in-game?

When I take one they just come out to be really small. Pic related. It's too small.

And don't ask what is going on, either..

>> No.1691   [Delete]   [Edit]

prnt scrn + alt
It puts a screenshot of your foremost window into your clipboard. Paste it into an image editor like paint. Bam, a screenshot the size of the window.

>> No.1696   [Delete]   [Edit]

Maximize your game window before you hit printscreen? :'D

>> No.1703   [Delete]   [Edit]

It doesn't matter what he does. This IS the entire screen in its original size, no matter what resolution you have it. And it's not gonna change. I'm afraid you have to resize it yourself.

What if Madotsuki is not living alone at home?

(This is why I love this game, a million possibilites and each one has another million consequences.)

>> No.1702   [Delete]   [Edit]

Well, I just figured. The end of the game could not be the consequence of her nightmares and the fear she went through, or the fact that she can finally put her mind at ease because she found the answer to everything,

but actually because she's being held captive in her room. By her abusive parents or something. Or whatever. Keep thinking that way for me guys, I'm tired and will go to bed.

I'm making them. The first three will be fairly simple- Madotsuki's shirt's window on one side, with Mado's head (in a cute, simplistic style. almost Apple, if you will) and Yume Nikki in hiragana on the other. Bags will be handpainted on canvas with love. <3

After I finish the first three- I'll post them here, of course- I'll make custom ones. If you've got an idea for one, post it. Chances are I'll make it for you.

I was actually thinking about doing a Poniko/Uboa one next.

Fabric paint is the funnest stuff evar. <3

>> No.1663   [Delete]   [Edit]

I'd do this kind of thing, but I'm too lazy to fabric paint anything.

Then again, I do have a twillcutter and heatpress...

but mailing these things is such a chore

>> No.1665   [Delete]   [Edit]

Yeah, I haven't quite figured out what I'm gonna do about mailing.
