This board needs a tutorial on installing Y2kki, so..

Installing Yume 2kki :

Step 1 - Installing files for East Asian Languages

  1. Go to Control panel
  2. Go to Regional and Language Options
  3. Click the "Install files for East Asian Languages" checkbox
  4. Press OK

At this point, Windows will begin the install. It'll probably ask for a CD, so have one nearby.

Step 2 - Installing piaipApplocale and the Context Menu registry thing

  1. Download pApploc - http://ntu.csie.org/~piaip/papploc.msi
  2. Download this attachment Context Menu.zip - http://www.hongfire.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=86298&d=1208143928
  3. Install pApploc to its default location
  4. Extract the Context menu.rar and double click Install.reg
  5. To uninstall, double click on Uninstall.reg

(pApplocale is a modified version of applocale that skips the annoying step-by-step thing everytime you want to start a program. The contextmenu.reg is a registry file that adds the option to Run with pApplocale to the right-click menu on Windows.)

Source for this information -> http://www.hongfire.com/forum/showthread.php?t=82164

Step 3 - Downloading and installing the Japanese RPG Maker 2000 RTP

  1. Download this - http://tkool.jp/rtp/2000rtp.exe
  2. When it finishes downloading, double-click it and it will extract somewhere. This is not the installation.
  3. After extracting, go the the folder you extracted it, and use pApplocale when running RPG2000RTP.exe (right-click -> Japanese locale)
  4. Install it normally. If you did everything right, you'll see no errors. Most common errors are the installer freezing or stop working at some .wav files. If this happens, your applocale isn't installed right.

Step 4 - Downloading the most recent version of Yume 2kki

  1. Open http://loda.jp/yume2kki_4/
  2. You'll see a shitload of versions. You'll want to download the files where it says "Ver0.092b 4-1", and so on.

example :

Theses 4 files are the latest version. Click on the filename to download them.

Patches and bugfixes are also there, they usually appear like this :

261 [132.zip] ゆめ2っき92bパッチ第2版 ※初期版の修正内容も含んでいます 0 Res 0.09MB 2010/08/19(Thu)17:54 ゆめ2っき_92bパッチ第2版.zip 編集
127 [131.zip] ゆめ2っき_92bパッチ.zip 0 Res 0.08MB 2010/08/19(Thu)15:53 ゆめ2っき_92bパッチ.zip 編集

By using Google Translator, you can see if it's a patch, too.

3. Anyway, after downloading all these files, using pApplocale, run the .exe (in this case, 129.exe). It'll extract all the files to a folder.

Step 5 - Playing the game

  1. Go to the folder where you extracted the game
  2. Check to see if there's a file called RPG_RT.exe. If there's not, you can use any RPG_RT.exe from any game. But you can also get it from here : http://www.4shared.com/file/_2bnpFMU/RPG_RT.html
  3. Right-click RPG_RT.exe and open it using the Japanese Locale.

One thing I want to add (having just gone through this a short while ago):

--If, when installing the East Asian Language files, you're asked for the Windows whatever-version CD but don't have one, you are not SOL! You'll have to find an .iso for the operating system you use (i.e. if you have XP, you just need an XP .iso; it doesn't have to be for the exact version of XP you have) and then mount it with a virtual drive (no need to explain this, tutorials for it are everywhere). Once that's done, you're good to go. [I'm saying this because I ran into this exact problem, and nearly everywhere I looked for help says "if you don't have the CD, then it sucks to be you"; it would've been nice to know right off the bat that I wasn't screwed and to not almost give up because I got so frustrated. Plus, I know a lot of people probably got their computers from chain stores and don't have the CDs, or they lost them, or whatever.]

Otherwise, this NEEDS to be stickied!

>> No.536   [Delete]   [Edit]

>>535

This is true.. I'm on an EEE PC, so I don't even have a CD drive, I had to download an .iso too.

The most annoying problem that I ran into was that my XP version had the East Asian language support cut out.. even if I tried to install it, Applocale would say the language wasn't installed.

I eventually got to fix it by running some commands.. but I lost all the instructions D:

It was easier to install another copy of Win XP, anyway.

Someone kindly uploaded an english version of 2kki a while back (this was version 0.086e).

Is there any chance of someone doing the same for a later version?

Need some help with Vista here. It's pretty much fighting me every step of the way, and I can't install rtp2000 for whatever reason.

I think it's because I can't figure out how to install files in eastern languages.

I keep getting errors in certain places =\ For example, one of the paintings in the "art gallery" looks like a circular gradient with green and blue and...I can't remember the other colors. Chainsawing the hidden creature under the sand underwater (after you talk to the piano) gives me an error, and there is the error in the image I posted.

You know the room in the apartment building where you see the red, yellow, and blue people and you go up on this path into the sky? I get an error there =\

I'm sorry I don't know where to ask for help (gets ready to get yelled at), but I'd love for someone to shed some light on this D:

"the file "SKY1" could not be opened.
Here's the file, save it and put it in your paranorma folder. This'll fix the error in the pic right there.

I'm not sure about the other things though, sorry.

EDIT: The file name might get screwed up, so if it's not a Japanese character, just copy and past this character: 空1 (including the "1")
and rename the file that.

Hi, I've done all the steps in the OP - I'm still having this problem. I end up having a bunch of glitched text in the game - even when I extract and install it with 7zip, run it in Japanese locale, Japanese language files installed, everything. I'm running Vista x64. I have no idea what could be causing this error. Any ideas...?

>> No.864   [Delete]   [Edit]

Nevermind, I figured out what the problem is. According to the Japanese instructions, you NEED to have the RPG_RT.exe that's linked in the OP, not one from Yume Nikki or another game. Sorry!

Is that Win7? When I made this tutorial I was using XP, but I just a better computer with 7, it appears that it already comes with the Japanese language installed..

Try skipping to step 2, if it doesn't work, you'll have to come back to that window and click in the "keyboards and languages" tab and install it from there.

I had this, try turning off your UAC in Win7.

Start Menu -> Type UAC in the search box -> open the "User Account Options" -> set it to "never notify".

This will also disable that annoying pop-up everytime you open up a program, but if you actually like that you can turn it on again after installing applocale.

Look for a file called Save.lsd, or something along those lines in your game folder (it might be Save02.lsd or Save01.lsd, etc. etc., depending on which place you saved it).

Some effects might be missing though if it's from a really old version - I'm not sure if it messes up the game any though.

1) Install Jap Locale in windows 7;
2) Install papploc.msi;
3) Install reg in context menu.zip
4) Install 2000rtp.exe (with applocale);
5) Copy RPG_RT.exe in yume 2kki directory;
6) Run 2kki (with applocale or not?).

With applocale.

The reg thing is so you can right-click the file and select "run with applocale" instead of running the program everytime you play (it's a pain in the ass).

Had some administrator problems where I couldn't install Aplloc without running via cmd as the administrator. Had the same problem again when installing the RTP and had to find apploc.exe in my Windows folder and run it as administrator.

Now I'm having a problem to install the Yume 2kki exe file (with the three other rars). Tried the same thing; running it as an administrator, but this time it doesn't work. Any help?

I would like to note that I had to manually find the language to the exe file in Apploc if that's any clue.

I am having the same problem, except Im using Applocal.

>> No.1277   [Delete]   [Edit]

Okay, if you're going nuts with applocale, try changing your system locale to japanese (this doesn't change everything to another language, just non-unicode things, aka the japanese rtp)

For Win 7:
Control Panel > Region and Language > Administrative tab > Change System Locale

Select "Japan", let your pc restart, and THEN install the rtp. Keep in mind the english rtp and Japanese rtp are TWO DIFFERENT THINGS. Install both if you're unsure.

When everything's installed, you can switch back and THEN use applocale to run Yume Nikki, y2kki, etc.

Hope this helps. Keep trying. Most of the problems are either the rtp or applocale not being run.

Someday when y2kki's all finished, I'm sure someone will repackage the game with the english RPG_RT.exe and rtp files like YN has.

In Win7 you've gotta turn off the UAC. Sorry I didn't mention this in the tutorial, at the time I was using XP only..

  1. Go to the start menu
  2. Type in UAC and open it (User Account control blablabla)
  3. Change it to Never Notify
  4. Press OK

Now you can install the RTP. Also, this will stop those annoying messages from popping up everytime you run a program, but if you want that back, you can just install applocale then turn it on again.

But it's a lot better without it, IMO.

Alright, so I figured out that it won't extract that certain file because it's apparently "corrupt"... the file itself is named " ゆめ2っき_Ver0.093d\music\OP曲「ゆめ2っき」By音師竹内.mp3", and I think this is the translation of the error message it was giving me:

I downloaded the latest version of 2kki, downloaded RPG_RT.exe and harmony.dll, it runs and it shows some menu. I picked the first choice because the 2nd does nothing and 3rd exits the game and I get this. What gives?

>Check to see if there's a file called RPG_RT.exe. If there's not, you can use any RPG_RT.exe from any game.

Just in case anyone else have the same problem I do. Any RPG_RT.exe doesn't work. If you have the common yume nikki rar floating around the web (not sure if it's the same with the one from this site) then the RPG_RT.exe from that pack will not work. Probably because it comes right out from the rar with a non-ja locale (or something like that, I'm not that good with these kind of things). Either way using that will give you the same errors in game as installing the whole thing in the wrong locale will.

Took me a while to figure out what the problem was so I just figured I'd mention it since alot of people trying this game probably have yume nikki already and might use the RPG_RT from there.

I can't edit the OP no more, but maybe it only works with the japanese RPG_RT.exe..

It should work with the link provided in the OP, tho.

It's most likely your computer's antivirus. Shut it off temporarily and then try downloading it again.

>> No.1981   [Delete]   [Edit]

If you have Norton Internet Security 2011, and it keeps telling you that it protected you from an attack on your computer whenever you click on the link that says "DOWNLOAD from loda.jp", disregard. Norton has no beef with loda.jp, it's just a false alarm. What you do when this happens is open Norton, click on "Intrusion Prevention" and disable it until you're done downloading.

Okay, I have win7 so I never needed pApploc, I just changed the system locale. I got 2kki up and running just fine and dandy, but then later I had to do a system restore for an unrelated reason and of course it uninstalled 2kki.

Now when I try to install RTP it constantly says "Setup failed to install: one or more arguments is not correct." I have done it a million times and it always says the same thing. I even went to hell and back to install pApploc JUST IN CASE, but nope.

Any ideas of how to fix the 'arguments not correct' for RTP? Am I just being dumb and not doing it right?

Pardon, but I have Windows 7, and can't seem to install RPG2000RTP properly. Without applocale I can get to 44%, before it gives me an error message and shuts down. However, when I try using applocale, or try systemlocale, it gives me an error message saying the filename, directory name, or label syntax is incorrect, then continues to another box with an error sign with Japanese text. Could anyone tell me how to fix this and install properly?

Try moving the files to a shorter path, like C:\. If it doesn't work, try downloading the files with a different browser, or even running your browser with applocale so it will download the file with it's original filename.

Also keep in mind that it uses the yen symbol instead of slashes on the path, do not change that.

Your text is unintellegle, that means that you are running it with an ASCII codepage or some shit (I'm actually surprised that you managed to get that far).

What is probably happening is that the game is trying to find a sprite with a certain file name, but it searches for the butchered version instead of the proper japanese name and cannot find it.

Try running it with a Jap locale. Follow the instructions very carefully, especially regarding applocale.

No, extract them from the self extracting archive that you downloaded from loda.jp, with applocale of course, and put them in a folder.

Download the file from http://www.4shared.com/file/_2bnpFMU/RPG_RT.html and put it in the folder that you just made.

Then run that file (RPG.RT.exe) in applocale.

If that's not the issue..well, then I dunno.

>> No.2330   [Delete]   [Edit]

Just in case any mac users care/still read this, to get it working on a mac (2kki as well as .flow), you need Crossover, rtp2000.exe, RPGMaker2000, possibly UnRarX, and a changed location.
Go to System Preferences, and then International, or whatever the language/keyboard preference thing is. Go to format, and change the region to Japan. Download 2kki or .flow or whatever (I've only done this with 2kki and .flow). If it's a .rar, unrar it with your region set to Japan. .exes work as well. Just as long as you get an .exe out of it. Create a bottle in CrossOver, and install unsupported software, be it the .exe or the folder, and wait til that's done.
Next, you wanna install rpgmaker2000 into the bottle (Configure>Manage Bottles>click on the Yume 2kki/whatever bottle >Applications >Install Software) You should go through the installation screens as shown in the thread already. Install the rpt2000.exe on the loda page into the bottle. If it doesn't open automatically, install the RPG_RT. It most likely will open into full screen mode, and if f4/f5 doesn't minimize it, force quit crossover and try again. (option-command-escape)

Not sure if this works on all macs, I was able to run it on my 10.4.11.

Good luck c:

Thank you so much! I'd given up trying to get it work in either Crossover or my partition of Windows (because I didn't have the CD to change the language settings), but after fiddling around with your instructions, it works like a dream (no pun intended)! Been playing for about 30 minutes with no glitches at all.

The only thing that I noted works completely differently from your tutorial is windowed mode. I got nothing out of f4 or f5, what worked for me was command+option+enter.

Again, thank you so much! Hopefully .flow will work just as well when I try.

EDIT: A few minor things I noticed...

If you click off of the Yume 2kki screen onto something else while it's windowed (say, a browser), and decide to return to the game, do NOT do it by clicking on it's icon in the dock if possible. This causes it to move about a half inch up the screen every time you click the dock icon for whatever reason and since it cannot be moved back, it eventually moves off screen. I had to grope around blindly to save my progress!

Also, in case you plan on ever really shutting Crossover down (which seems likely), you should save the RPG_RT.exe command. If you try and run it again after quitting the bottle, it will claim you don't have RPGMaker installed any more and fail to launch the game, but the command I had saved still worked!

Also, while there are no areas actually bugging as far as I can tell, trying to go to the Heart World (I think that's the term) makes the game crash and close almost instantly. I haven't run into anything else like it, but if this game is as big as they say, maybe I will.

I believe I've come across a weird situation.
In the latest versions, whenever I try to go to that place with the room in which you can get the twintails effect, I am greeted by a sea of NOT IMPLEMENTED (on XP, my main OS). However, on my curiosity mode Windows 7, I didn't get anything of the sorts there - at first, I thought it was because of a bad RTP installation, so I reinstalled it (making sure to uninstall it first) but continued getting that error. I also tried to run the game with a Japanese locale instead of Apploc (just like I did on W7), but the error rain still happened.

Pic shows the download link.
Don't forget to download all the parts. There's usually 4 or 5 each time. Once you've done that, unpack them in the same folder. If you're missing the .exe to open the file, just copy it from the previous version and paste it into the folder of the new version.

On a second note, make sure your language locale is set to Japanese. You'll have to restart your computer for it to take effect.

I don't think save files from previous versions work because of the changes, effects are in different places and I think the updates mess with the save files. I know I couldn't transfer my save file over, but it's still worth it to have the new version. I hadn't found everything anyway, so it didn't matter too much to me. Hope you can get it to work!

It's probably a good idea to use 2000; from what I've experienced, the 2000 doesn't work with Yume Nikki and the 2003 doesn't work with Yume 2kki.
That's just my experience, though, I don't know how others are fairing in that aspect.

Also, I did not realize that link was a 404. I got that, too, whoops. Here, try this one:

That's...pretty amazing, actually. I don't know what you did either. LOL Hope things start getting back to normal and you can play again! Maybe someone on here has had a similar problem and can help you out.

it could be the fact that I changed the folder name 2kki was in, but the same thing happens to .flow and I didn't change anything there

EDIT: so I reinstalled 2kki and the RTP (again) and it fixed it and it magically fixed .flow too so it's all good again

YYEEESSS I FINALLY GOT APPLOCALE TO INSTALL CORRECTLY ON MY SHITTY WINDOWS 7 COMPUTER

>> No.3043   [Delete]   [Edit]

Thanks to this Fan game I learned how to open Japanese programms, I just like such things.

another thing learned and so much more to go.

PS: I had no chance with applocale but with win 7 set to japanese it was quickly done and the game run and is fun.

I hope this helps for people who are using windows 7

You don't really need to download applocale as long your non unicode is set to "Japanese (Japan)"

If you have this set just follow step 3,4 and 5 and you should be fine... It works for me

I was doing fine, but the context menu link isn't working...

A few mins later...
Got everything working in no time with the context menu thing I found here: http://alcahest.perso.sfr.fr/perso/apploc/applocale.html

Thank you, guys, I never imagined this would be such a smooth process!

I've been trying to assist my girlfriend in the installation of RPG Maker 2000 RTP on her Windows 7 laptop for the past, like, five hours. She changed her system locale to Japanese and managed to get AppLocale to download and install, but when she goes to run the .exe for the RPG Maker 2000 RTP install, she gets this:

"AppLocale was unable to launch the specified application. Please make sure the application specified is valid."

Is there anything that can be done? This is really frustrating.

(I'm the anon who posted just before you)
It didn't seem logical to me to install RPG Maker using Apploc, plus I didn't understand some of the steps, so I instaled it normally and everything worked. Have you tried that?

Could you list out each step you did? I feel that'd probably be the most helpful.

>> No.3167   [Delete]   [Edit]

I've got my system locale set to Japanese, RPG2000 RTP installed with no problems, and I've extracted and set up the 2kki files (ver 94e).

I can open the game, but then it freezes on the fadeout from the "project yume2kki" screen.

Any thoughts how to fix this?
