Discuss RL world hospital room design, or the larger dreamworld hospital.

>> No.11   [Delete]   [Edit]

Imo IRL hospital should be a brighter, steril-like, now it has kind of frankenstein/crazy-evil-doctor victorian mood.

I'd also merge the hallway to the balcomy with Kazenori's room so we get one L-shaped area.

Hallway needs more objects (plants, tables, chairs). Perhaps stairs to lower floor.

Am working on more items to put in the hospital.

I made the real world brighter and cleaner looking like a real hospital. I'll try fixing up the dream world hospital. Some liked the mood but I'll admit it's way too strong.

the cleaner one looks like it would be used for the real world.
while the darker one could be for maybe the dream room?

>> No.22   [Delete]   [Edit]

Maybe there could be a vending machine in the hallway of the dream world hospital where Kazenori can buy drinks/snacks with coins he gets from killing monsters (if killing monsters will yield coins... didn't see anything about that in the logs or the thread). I don't know how feasible this would be since I don't really know anything about RPGMaker, but maybe Kazenori could use them and it could affect his dreams somehow?

Also, 'sup.

maybe in the hallway there could be a door open, and white flashes could come out. i dunno, i think it could be good in the dream world to add an eerie effect

Instead of struggling to come up with new dream worlds, why not expand the real world immensely? A hospital is a big place, especially with multiple floors and buildings at night. Throw in real world NPCs (real people omg) and you've got a place that could be scarier than the crazy dream worlds.

lurk more. we already discussed being able to explore the hospital irl and we decided against it. though we are going to have a hospital area in the dreamworld with many floors etc.

>> No.152   [Delete]   [Edit]

>>151

>we already discussed being able to explore the hospital irl and we decided against it

What was the reasoning behind this again? I like the idea of being able to explore the real world to some degree.

>> No.157   [Delete]   [Edit]

>>152
It was during the 7-24 meeting, we were discussing it and decided it would have to be one or the other: "explore the hospital irl" or "explore a dreamworld hospital." Everybody liked the second option more. And besides, at this version of the game the actual nexus is the hospital, so...
At the next meeting I can bring it up, though, if it's a big deal.

>> No.158   [Delete]   [Edit]

>>157

It would be interesting to have a hospital vs. dream world hospital aspect of the game. Plus exploration of the real world is something I wish Yume Nikki had. I know that Madosuki locking herself inside was meaningful to that game in particular (if that game had a meaning) but unless Nori is locked up in the phych ward I don't see why not, besides extra programming.

>> No.159   [Delete]   [Edit]

i think the real life could just have a few less rooms to explore. to keep the dream world the main place to explore

I think the problem with the dream world feeling "too strong" is that the music gets way too creepy, way soon. If it weren't so intense and more in the background, it'd be more subtle. Not to slam the guy who wrote it, of course. Just a pacing issue.

>> No.757   [Delete]   [Edit]

Hey guys, I was thinking about maybe adding a janitor's closet that appears in both the real world and the dream world. The one in the dream world is open and just has a few cleaning supplies, nothing special. However the dream world closet is locked until you get either a specific effect or a key from an npc/event or just finding one in an obscure place. Inside could be a previously inaccessible world portal or something similar. What do you think?

>> No.758   [Delete]   [Edit]

>>757

I quite like the idea, though personally I would stick using an effect to unlock it, maybe something like 'coat hanger' effect or something? I haven't really put much thought into it.

>>724

I agree with this, Music got too freaky, I thought it was too early to have such a creepy atmosphere. It went well with the whole scenery though.

Re-posting the hospital RL NPC/events ideas. (Minus the end of game talk)

>How about Nurses that give you medicine daily? (This could be a random event or perhaps a "story event" that works somewhat like how "PlayingKiki" worked in yn?)
>Doctors? Patients? Visitors?
>irl hospital wouldn't be empty. The dreamworld hospital should be the mostly empty one (with an occasional monster or something) and it would add to the creepy vibe.
>Maybe if Kazenori tries to leave his room when he's awake a nurse npc will find him immediately and bring him back to his room. (He is a patient after all). At least show there's life outside of his room.
>Plus, maybe as a random event there would be Get Well balloons / flowers / something else from his parents that hadn't been there before when he wakes up.

/re-post.

>>922
Sorry for the misread in the other thread Toku, I came to help, not to fight. )X>

Although, I would still like to discuss, why exactly you think that RL Hospital NPC's would be a bad idea. :>

After re-reading I guess why people don't want the NPCs is that more emphasis should be put on the dream world.
Plus the irl hospital isn't going to explorable and making the hospital explorable for the sake of npcs isn't going to happen.

I agree that the irl hospital shouldn't be explorable since the nexus actually is the hospital and it'd be redundant, but it would be good to hint at the outside world. So I guess... a nurse (medicine, keeps you from leaving your room) and a random flowers / get well gift event? Besides the end of game stuff I think these were the only outside world ideas suggested.

it's all right; i'm sorry too, i probably shouldn't have reacted like that.
my reasons are pretty much this post though: >>925
it's not that it's too original or anything, but the main focus is exploration of the dreamworld, and i think having irl npcs or the irl hospital be explorable would distract too much from what's pretty much the entire point of the game, as well as probably show backstory which is a bad idea in my opinion.
although, i do like the get well balloons/flowers random event idea a lot, but i don't know about the nurse thing since i do kind of like the idea of having nori being completely isolated in the hospital room, with the player having no idea as to why or how and the reason never being revealed.

I think the dreamworld hospital should have many distorted reflections of the rl hospital.
Padded room is a must, such as the picture from AquaTaco.
Maybe security camera type monsters or drawings on the ceiling. I don't know if there will be many NPC's but if there are there should be Kazenori's version of other patients throughout the game. Maybe some that would rush at him. Some that would run away. Simple yet memorable like Poniko, Monoko, Masada, etc.

Edit: About the room itself. The hospital room (if it is indeed where he resides) should be much more simple. Lockers would not be there but in a different room. Perhaps it is supposed to be a bathroom? The sink should be in there imo if so. So many patients would not be so grouped together. There should be one bed for him and another bed on the other side belonging to someone else.

Okay, now I'll just write down anything that comes to my mind, so I apologize for this wall of text~

About the size of the real world.. I think it should just be one room, with one or maybe two beds. Perhaps a curtain that can separate them from each other? In my opinion, the fact that Kazenori can't fall asleep in the other bed can add to some speculation.

The random Get Well Soon-balloons and stuff sound awesome, but.. maybe not balloons. Perhaps just a small card on a nightstand, and if you walk up to it and press Z, maybe you could see the front of the card where it actually says "Get well soon"? Except that's probably too... revealing, or something. Maybe just a card and a balloon that you can't interact with. Or maybe you can pop the balloon? I dunno, discuss.

One important thing though, is to make sure they don't appear too often. They're proof that there actually are people outside of the hospital that care about Kazenori, but if they're there too often it gets kinda weird that Kazenori's always asleep when he has visitors.

Regarding NPCs in the real world, I think it would ruin pretty much the Yume Nikki-feeling. Sometimes when I play Yume Nikki, I'm creeped out even before I go to the dream world, just by the fact that you're in a small room with neither exits nor people. But if you really want something else than Kazenori alive, how about a cute but useless puppy jumping around? Or maybe an "uninteractable" patient in the other bed?

EDIT:
I also think >>757 sound good. But what about in the dream world it's more or less open, but in the real world it's closed - until you find a certain effect to open it with. Inside could be something completely unrelated to the dreams - again, puppy?

>Or maybe an "uninteractable" patient in the other bed?

That would be neat, I really like that. Imagine only a bloodstain remains in the patients bed in the dreamworld. Maybe the patient is only there once in a while as well.

at pipe's request, i'm modifying the dream hospital tileset, mainly just making it more white.
here's a screenshot of the work done so far. any thoughts?

I like the whitened tileset. I think you should have that for the awake-hospital, and the original for the dreamworld hospital.

Nice idea. It's similar to Poniko's house environment depending on how you turn off the light or not. It can be linked by a chain of simbolisms, but I don't want to say only my idea about this.

some people didn't like the more menacing feel though. and besides, it could be even more menacing with the right music and atmosphere.

the thing is pipe wanted the whitened tileset for the dream hospital, so i'm not too sure about that.

i'm not sure about the answer to your question, but you may want to go to fangames/sequels to ask this. youre more likely to get a quick answer, there.
