Well, 2Channel is doing a collaboration project called Yume 2kki, like most of you know, so some of us here thought it might be fun to try and make our own!
Right now, we have not confirmed anything, even following through with the project. We haven't confirmed what it's going to be made in, what it's going to be like, what style we want, or anything like that. We want this to be a complete community project, so that means we'll need you're input on the matter!
We have recently completed a community meeting on IRC. Unfortunately, no conclusions were made at all. Basically a bunch of ideas were chaotically thrown around and we had difficulty coming to any conclusions. This is mostly because nobody with power was on the IRC and couldn't control the chaos, and we wanted input from everybody on the board.
What we have decided to do is make a final decision on the main "story" or "direction: of the project. A few ideas were thrown around in IRC and I am going to summarize the most popular ones here. What we are going to do is have these popular ideas and anymore ideas people really like put together in a poll on June 13th, where people will vote on the idea they want us to go trough with. Please, only vote once, the poll site we use will track your IP, but I know you guys can figure out ways around that, but I'd like to ask you not too.
Here is a summary of the popular Ideas discussed in the meeting:
• The protagonist is in a hospital with a coma of some sort, maybe, the main promise is, you have out of body experiences and are able to go into the dreams of other patients. And also when you find your body everything is weird. You may also collect effects from character's dreams and then use them to solve or do other things in other characters dreams. The characters in the hospital of dreams that you can visit may be users from this board and you can visit their dreams that they really had in a way. Maybe each contributor gets they're own character?
• The main protagonist is in a small brown room with a locked door. Food is delivered in an elevator cubby beside the door. Of course the main promise of the game is to dream. The reason you are in the room is because of a kidnapping of some sort, and your character has a really messed up past that has rendered them emotionless. None of this will be directly told, though. The story and past will be lightly symbolized by things in dreams. Like all the speculation for what something or other means in Yume Nikki. Also random things from the users of this board will be thrown in just as random things. The player can just go "lol weird" just like they may have in Yume Nikki or they could look for a deeper meaning on the background of the protagonist, which will be there, but not told directly at all. People can speculate whatever they want with whatever they want, there will be no distinction between random stuff and things that mean things, so the player can speculate whatever they want. Very open world, like Yume Nikki.
• Hotel idea as mentioned in this thread. Character is in a hotel-like nexus with reality and dream blurs. Read about it more by reading this thread. :-p
• NASU 2. A fan sequel of the game NASU except made super awesome, where you fight Cyborg-Pirate-Ninja-Zombie-Nazi-Eggplants and ride a motorcycle and be awesome and fun game and stuff.
• NASU Troll. Everyone pretends we're actually working on a project and posts fanart and creates little demos of an actual dream game and posts videos and stuff. We pretend it's a supar duper gigantic game with every idea from every contributor implemented. Later, we release an official beta version with all the RPGMaker2003 files in YN and Yume 2kki and stuff, but tons of maps and sounds, ect. But when the player plays the game it's just NASU 2 and just as crappy. Online features may be present. It would be for the lulz.
• Full 3D remake of Yume Nikki.
Other than that we attempted to set up an organizational method, but failed. We think it would be best if Rozencrab added something to the site like Yume 2kki's uploader for us to use.

The poll will be closed at the start of the meeting and the direction of the project with the most votes on the poll will ultimately be the real direction of the project.
This meeting will be much more controlled than the last and should go better. I hope to actually get things beginning to get done at this meeting.
We will decide various things and set up a real (not necessarily final, though) organizational method at this meeting. I also plan to finalize many other factors of the project such as name, protagonist, program used to make game, ect.
Please show up and help us make this a reality!

Yes include the slashes. The /<action> denotes a function. Type /help in your client for halp.
And then type what you want and press enter. You should get used to it eventually!
If you don't want to get into complex things, Rozencrab conveniently added a Java IRC client that should work in most web browsers as long as you have Java. Link here: http://uboachan.net/irc/irc.php
It'll work on Mac's and Linux. If you want clients specifically for those Google it.
