dark, surreal construction site area where we could find the hammer? Maybe a city area with lots of people where we could get some alternate outfits? We could have some areas based off of dreams people have had also.

YN : Mother reference :: Y2 : Earthbound/Mother 2 reference
Let's extrapolate further and throw in a Mother 3 reference, yaus. Or a Giygas-inspired world.

I was thinking, could we have something like YN's Aztec symbolism, but with a different civilization? I was thinking Norse.

Since Yume Nikki had some extremely vast and open areas, how about we try to do some that are kind of claustrophobic? Smallish, dark hallways with doorways leading to enclosed spaces, that sort of thing?

I love the claustrophobia idea. Maybe about half of it could be ruined and collapsed, making you crawl through tunnels to get anywhere in it? If it's not too irritating, we might even be able to put an effect in there. Hmm... maybe the place could have an Egyptian theme? Like, it's in a pyramid and the final room is the area with the coffin in it?

-Bedside Bookshelf: Kazenori has a collection of books beside her bed. If you "read" one before you go to sleep, you can trigger events or unlock certain areas in your/other patient's dreams. For example, if you read the book with the red cover, door A is unlocked in patient 1's dream.
-Window Dream: Just something I thought of while reading the claustrophobia idea. What if there was a tiny room in someone's dream that just contained one huge window? If you watch through the glass for a couple of seconds to a few minutes, people and creatures will pass by and peek in at you.
-Music Dream: Perhaps Kazenori or another patient once tried to start playing music. This dream is a very fancy, maybe depressing, area that is full of musical instruments. Each could be randomly on the floor with one chair behind it. Kazenori can sit on the chairs and interact with each instrument, but all that comes out is an awful screeching noise. To make this dream more mysterious, there could be one instrument Kazenori plays that ends up sounding peaceful and happy. Piano, maybe?
-Parents: You walk up to a couple standing in the middle of a room. Both of them are smiling and are surrounded by bland adults that imply the couple is popular or friendly. As soon as you approach, the couple becomes two angry monsters and all of the bland adults turn their backs. If you get too close, the monsters run up to you and you are transported to a darker dream. These could be Kazenori's parents, and this situation could imply that they are abusive.

For some reason, I liked the last part of this--like, the idea that you could get transported to a darker dream or not depending on what you touch. If you interact with certain things, your dream could become more of a nice dream or it could become more of a nightmare?

Deserted train station with all trains having the same number (like 08 or something) and they all lead to the same spot where you can get on said train 08, which will then start riding on a long track while the screen is slowly fading out, where after you wake up, where after bricks are shat.

Maybe depending on what you do in the dream or where you enter the area the train could take you to a different location or maybe break down or something?

On the matter of medieval stuff, how about a Medieval world?
>>638
I used to have recurring nightmares about my house burning down. There should be some kind of 'disaster' dream world, like the ground zero of a plane crash, train wreck, or something.

Maybe something that triggers a "falling through the sky and to the ground" nightmare? Like you get on a plane and you open the emergency exit door, it happens. Then when you're just about to hit the ground, you wake up like you fell out of bed, like in YN with the flying witch event.
