We had a neet music thread, it kinda failed, but this is a better, broader thread just about music that fits this board, such as doujin bands you like, Vocaloid producers, strange music (competor!!) and I'm really just listing things that I want to share with you, but feel free to go with the flow, it's not like we're 4chan or anything.

石鹸屋 (sekken-ya)

I made a thread about their new single earlier in the month, but I thought I'd revitalize and share more about them here. They started by being guest musicians for other doujin bands, and were appropriately called the sister band of Cool&Create. They're well known for their Touhou covers, especially ones with PV's. They were also slightly known for their comedic after tracks, such as that famous Syameimaru skit, and Sakuya's Bust skit. Their original works increased, and they have finally signed to a major label with their first single Shabon leading it. Of lesser importance but still of value Shuzou leads a side project called ゼッケン屋 (zekken-ya) which is far out if you prefer shuzou's voice to Atsushi's.

Short note about てっけんや (tekkennya), that's Koushi/ACE/Atsushi having some fun singing Don't say "lazy".

I've been meaning to make a Sound Horizon thread for days, might as well do it now.

Their music is really hard to classify. I guess you'd call it symphonic rock or maybe art rock if you want to sound pretentious, with the main guy Revo composing the tracks, writing the stories and providing vocals. I think he does instruments sometimes but I'm not sure. Most of the band are like fill-ins, Revo is the only permanent member though some like Jimang (known for the Umineko no Naku Koro ni ED song (OHHH DESIRE)) have a spot on every album since their introduction. To quote their last.fm page:

>Their music is generally in omnibus style; an album contains multiple parts with different themes that create one long, coherent story. Both male and female vocals are utilized, with soprano and mezzo-soprano vocals being the most common. Usage of narration is not restrained and can be heard in a variety of languages including French, Spanish, Arabic, Russian, German and English. This narration is often reminiscent of anime due to the frequent involvement of seiyū in narrating positions after the band’s major record label debut. Various musical stylistic influences are also apparent in their music including progressive rock, jazz, pop, opera, classical, and heavy metal. Their lyrics are often mysterious and metaphorical and contain complex and fantastical themes varying from ancient curses, legends, mythology, dreams, war and paradise to lust, longing, obsession, crime, and death.

This is an unofficial music video for Stardust, from Elysion ~楽園幻想物語組曲~, one of my favourite songs from one of my favourite albums. Entirely fan-made, apparently! Sound Horizon fans are classy.

Interested? http://junshibuyablog.wordpress.com/2009/12/07/sound-horizon/
Here are links to practically all of their works. I recommend their 4th and 5th Story CDs, Elysion ~楽園幻想物語組曲~ and Roman but honestly it's all quite good. Chronicle is mostly instrumental, it's a nice album but it's missing a whole dimension without the vocals. Certainly not a great place to start.

Their last.fm page, since I know lots of uboachanners use last.fm

Enjoy!

Whoohoo, I ordered my copy of Sekkenya's Shabon! Feels good to finally be able to start supporting the circles I like.

I saw Sound Horizon. <333

They're one of my favorite bands, the way they tie in other cultures and languages in their music, and tell stories with their songs and albums.

I've only really listening to Elysion and a few tracks on Roman (A few on Lost as well), but I love their music immensely. Glad to see I'm not the only fan~

I'm surprised nobody else wanted to use this thread...
