Seeing as 99.999 of the fanbase is creepy old men, and the game is full of lolis.

Oh, and there are only 5 men.
2 of them get screen time (they aren't even human), two of them were just mentioned once in a character description,
and one was in a book nobody cares about.

EDIT: Though the music is kick-ass, the games are addicting, and the doujinshi is interesting.

..Admittedly I suck at the games. I am mostly in it for the music. I even enjoy the music that the creator does in random side-albums.

He still does the cover art for them himself, so the album covers are pretty hilariously bad.

It is a bullet-hell shmup. It has lolis. It was created by a drunk man who can't iron his shirt. The games story doesn't take itself serious. It's basically ZUN parodying anything he can think of, and putting them together in a crazy shmup game.

The fighting games are probably more played though...

Most of the Touhou games are Bullet hell (curtain fire) shooting games, which pose a real challenge to a serious gamer.
What gives Touhou it's real power however, it the aforementioned lolis and lacy outfits.
The fandom flocked to it and gave life to the ideas behind the franchise, making a self perpetuating ball of AWESOMESAUCE.

Give Perfect Cherry Blossom a try. It might just blow your socks off.

Apparently, I'm some sort of abomination, as I like Rinnosuke when he's not portrayed as an incredible jerk. MANNOSUKE is fine, but my favorite is when he's just the "straight man" who reacts like a normal person would to any of the cast's antics.
