Hey, people.
I know you're probably tired of these kind of threads. "omg i maedz fangam". But really, screw that.

I'm working on a game inspired by Yume Nikki, although with slightly different gameplay.
It's called visions.
I have a few ideas already, but the main premise is that it is not centered on effects, but rather on exploration.

You start your room, which has a balcony. If you try to leave the room, the character shakes his head. SO ORIGINAL, right?
Instead of going to bed to see the crazy shit, there's an item in the menu called "Close your eyes", and another one called "Open your eyes". When you close your eyes, you enter a different version of the room you're in. Think of it kind of as Lights-on Poniko room (eyes open) versus Lights-off Uboa room (eyes closed). In some areas, you can't open them. And you can only leave the starting bedroom/save the game with your eyes open.
This picture is a (temporary) title screen. It looks way too creepy, and I'm still not fully set on the overall tone of the game. Plus it makes it seem like a .flow ripoff, which it isn't. It will be made in RPG Maker 2003, since I already have experience with it.

I'm looking for opinions on the eyes open/closed concept.
No screenshots yet because I'm working (for now) with chipsets taken from other games, ONLY to test the engine (when it's done, I'll make my own).

This is the main character. I think it's a guy. Haven't decided a name yet. Sprite is an edit of Urotsuki from 2kki.

perhaps you could make the piecey strands of hair on their forehead shorter? it connects with their eyes and forms a misleading shape of their eyes. one pixel shorter would do.

otherwise, it looks interesting. i like the concept. keep up the good work.

The mechanic for opening/closing your eyes is DOOONE. took some thinking, but I'm glad it's ready. Now I just need to add what little effects there will be and add the rooms. And make my own chipset for everything.

Also, the floor is blatantly taken from a Yume 2kki chipset because I couldn't get it to look right. Anybody willing to make a floor tile for me? :D

For some reason the gigantic window attracts my love. I'd try make some tiles (which I am HORRIBLE at, don't expect anything) but I don't know what kind you're aiming for.\

Good to hear progress is being made.

I guess I'll make a comment about that window now: It's so weird and stuff, but somehow it just seems too interesting to get rid of or even scale down. I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way. (this >>8521)
