Hey, I've been working on this fangame for about a month, I'm working on my first world and it's almost done (there's a maze in the first world so most of my time has gone to that) It's at a very early stage but I've already come up with a story for it. Though I won't tell unless you ask, and if you do I won't tell a lot because it would give things away and ruin the fun.

It has a dark ish atmosphere and has lots of random blood slotches everywhere.

I did almost all of the pixeling and music. I got most of the sound effects from freesound.org. Me and my friend also recorded the scream and laughing sounds.

Any opinions/ideas? Does anyone want to volunteer to help with the music or pixeling? (Though it's okay if nobody wants to) :)

Also, I don't quite get how she enters her "dreamworld" (if it can even be called that). I guess she drinks something? Almost makes me think she's an alcoholic, ehehe.

Yeah, I would lower the volume of it..but they are all events so I would have to go to each one and lower the volume of it.....or I could go to the resource and lower it! But if that doesn't work then I'll have to delete all te events, change it, and paste them all again. But I guess without a little hard work this game would suck xD

Yea her name has a meaning, it means 'with poison' roughly. And she drinks this special potion/medicine/elixir to enduce dreaming. She is kind of a scientist so yeah xD That's what the desk is for. :) The story does have something to do with alcoholics, but not necessarily her hehe, I'll leave it at that. Also the picture I drew here is an earlier drawing of her and another person who'll be in the game.

k, sorry I'm posting so much, but I lowered the volume of the canon/gun shots by half xD It took a while but yeah, I got it done, I also finished a panorama background for the maze I'm working on here <<<<<-----

Yeah It's supposed to resemble something. I'm now almost done with the maze (Not including things that transport you to other worlds), just need to add some finishing touches and ground tiles xD Which won't take very long xD

I also want some pixeling help and stuff since this will take a while xD SO if anybody wants to help, please do

SO far I am almost done with the first world, I also have the maze done. And I have implemented 1 effect which makes Dokutsuki's joints very noticeable and turns her head into a skull. It's the effect that stops NPCs or scares them away, but I can't test it yet since I haven't made any NPCs yet xD

And I'm still open to advice, opinions, or volunteers!

I really like your pixel work. I'm creating a fan game myself, and I don't think my work is quite up to par. It looks original even though it's the same formula of girls locked in their room. I like the colours that stick out too.

And I made an event in my game! The pixeling pissed me off but it was worth it. It involves a key from a dog dish, a door, and a shoebox xD I'm so proud, I made long term animation!

And I added her sitting when you press the shift key. I'm working on the animation which appears when you recieve an effect

I finished the maze a while ago so here's a screenshot of it! You get to it through the broken bottle that I showed in the video. It's pretty big but not super confusing...but it's still confusing.

I just need to pixel some more stuff for this area then I can move on to the next world!

Seems interesting so far, i'll definitely try it out when you decide to put out something playable. I'd change the colours in that maze to something else though, bright blue and green is not the best combination if you ask me. It seems like a generic SNES maze to me.

Oh! Just an update, I finished the first world in the fangame! I have a total of 9 maps, 1 world, 1 effect, and 1 event! I'm working on the second effect and one NPC now!

I also recently (2 hours ago) fixed a bug which made you unable to wake up normally or sit after you woke up with the skull effect. I worked for 2 hours only to find it was a switch and code order mistake xD

I really hope I get more replies!

Hey, I've been studying and being at school and such so I might update as often, but I will try to update often! Here's a screenshot of the glass room I'm working on. I am proud with the hand (It's where you get the weapon effect, a glass shard) I made it detailed.

And I added an NPC! It's that thing that's crying next to the hand, it's animated by the way. :)

And if anybody asks for a screenshot of the event room I would gladly post one.

It's just not that easy to take a picture of an event since its animated. I think I'll post another video soon xD ENJOY!

(Edit: I'm not trying to be CREEPY creepy, my friend suggested the static so I did it, but it's what in the box that matters, what's in there to make her cry? I think I'll take out the smiling part. Any other advice?)

As for your game, well... it looks good so far, except if I were you I'd try and pick a less clashing color scheme. In general. Blue, orange, red, green, pink and teal on the main character all at the same time is a little too much for my poor little optic nerves to handle, for one thing.
And that maze is really eye-hurting, at least in the screenshot. One thing you could try is desaturating and lowering the brightness of some of the brighter colors so they seem a bit less MS PAINT CYAN and more muted, you know what I mean? Alternatively try looking up a tutorial on color theory, it might help.

otherwise you have a neat idea and you work quickly, kudos to you

I like the clashing colors. It has a certain uniqueness that I haven't yet seen in any of the other games. The bright, disorienting colors add it's own sort of creepyness, if I'm making any sense.

You can keep the classhing colours but make them less eyebleedy by changing the shade a little. the most eye bleedy part for me is the red and green smack against eachother.

Oh you mean the red and green in her skirt? Haha yeah, I looked up color theory earlier and I realized....complimentary colors don't compliment each other very well xD They just make each other stand out xD So I'll try to change the color tones a bit.

But if you're not talking about the skirt then what is it? But if you are, just confirm. I want to make this game enjoyable for most people :D

complimentary colours do compliment eachother butyou got to work with them to get them to look good. straight green and straight red look pretty shit together. and yes I was meaning the skirt, I really think her design is fine but its just the green in t he skirt. Maybe you could fill the green in with orange or black instead, that will bring her outfit together more.(also thats another thing, nothing in her outfit matches and it looks a tad awkward, so if you make the skirt maybe red and orange with a black border instead of pink?

In all seriousness I agree about the skirt, if you change the green to black it won't look too much different at all, and it'll be easier to look at.
otherwise she looks kind of like a mish-mash of halloween and christmas Wal-Mart getup, and unless that's what you're going for...
but hey! It's your game, after all. Whatever you ultimately decide to do will be fine, I think.

Four or five worlds seems like a good starting number to me. If I were you I'd try and make sure there's something to do in each one.

Just some art for the new world I'm working on. It's a lot more complicated than the 'Boom' World as I like to call it. It's kind of maze-ish but not really 'easytogetlost'-ish xD It has faces with different expressions everywhere and it connects to two different sub-worlds.

I'm done with the faces! I've placed everything everywhere in the face world and I am now working on the weapon mechanic. Which is the animation for Dokutsuki slicing an NPC with her glass shard.

The pic is of the face world. This is only a small part of it, it's actually a pretty big world. I worked hard on pixeling the sand-ish tiles and holes. Also the water. I took the color clashing into consideration and changed the green in her skirt to black. Any opinions on how the skirt and the world looks?

The method used in YN was to place a 'Erase Event' at the end of your knife/npc damage sequence- the event will be back automatically upon re-entering the room.

I really like the broken glass theme or whatever. Broken glass freaks me out. Bloody broken glass? eugh. Blood doesn't bother me but glass is like the worst thing to get cut with.

Also, the main character, the red things in her hair, is it shards of bloody glass? I thought it was that before I even read that the title of the game was "Broken Bottles", I looked at the picture in the OP first. If that's shards of bloody glass poking out of her head/hair, that's awesome and horrifying D :

I'm working on a (complicated) map for a new Bigger Sub-world! It's an aiport place that connects to a maze ish hospital (which the design for it will be pretty, kind of, original). I'm working for the design for the hospital design now and will get to pixeling the tiles wayyyy later.

I'm almost done sketching the hospital's map and what each room is gonna look like (which is lots of work). I'm also planning to make it kind of like a wandering maze like thing. I hope to make my game a little bit easier to navigate than Yume Nikki's looping worlds and a little harder to navigate than .flow.
