Recently, I've decided to finally get my act together and make my own little fangame thing. Before I start though, I should explain right now that I have little to no talent in spriting, RPG Maker, or any of that stuff, but maybe putting this board up will actually motivate my lazy ass to try to learn some of the 'tricks of the trade' you could say.

I figured that since this is the fangame board there's plenty of people here that have experienced the same problems and might know how to help.

Anyways, the story of the game is as follows: A rabbit is released from a mental institution after years of therapy and nightmares. At first everything is fine, but soon the nightmares start to become more and more twisted and vivid again, and his sanity is beginning to deteriorate. The 'dreaming' in this game is accomplished by taking his special medication, and saving is done by taking less powerful sedatives so the main character can relax and reflect on his experiences.

Pic related. I'm more than welcome to any help and advice that you guys are willing to give me, and I'm apologizing right now if I'm bugging you guys or anything.

-Starkey

I'm in the same boat as you. I started my own project and have another thread and all that. I have to say I really like the idea. Read the spriting guides in the sticky, and find blank tilesets. Open the Yume Nikki game in RPG Maker 2003 for hints on events. That's about all I know so far.

If you want to learn to sprite, you are going to have to be at least decent at drawing to start with. Other than that, all i can say is read some online tutorials, there's lots of them. And the hardest part: Practise, practise, practise, practise and then practise some more.

Does this count as 'decent'? It's just a little sketch thing I made a while ago to go with the idea.

I know it's not inked or coloured or anything, but I guess it's still kinda decent? I guess it kinda depends on whoever looks at this.

Looks good to me. Now get cracking.

Ruby Quest: the game.

Why hasn't that happened yet? Ruby Quest kicks ass.

OT: Sounds interesting. Looking forward to an alpha.

Oh no, nothing I could do would ever be as awesome as Ruby Quest is. <:3c The game itself is going to be influenced in terms of the simple character designs of RQ though. Also, people on Uboachan know about RubyQuest? Awesome. B3

I think the main reason is because people are afraid that the game wouldn't be as awesome as the original quest. Someone might eventually pull it off though I guess.

Also, been trying to practice my spriting more. Thing on the top is a 'Giggler', which'll be the main antagonists of the game. On the bottom is a "Mr.Nibbles", which is a larger nastier Giggler.

True story, the Gigglers are based on what I thought the Kaibutsu looked like before I took a better look at the sprite (Weird white things with trapinch heads, I thought the hair was their teeth or whatever and the black marks were eyes). I'm man enough to admit that. If they're too similar though I can always just make up a new evil to send the main character to empty rooms.

Original design of the Gigglers (Filename was Mr. Nibbles as a placeholder name). As drawn in the almighty MS Paint. I switched them to the newer creepier dull toothed versions in the sketch because I thought this version seemed a bit too cute. If you think this kinda thing is cute anyways.

Also, got a friend to help with background stuff. Like this. :3

psiwolf is a furfag who made a game and put a bunch of wolf shit in it.

so, you're the same thing, but with rabbits

>> No.8279   [Delete]   [Edit]

>>8276

Uh huh. Well, I've already admitted I'm a furfag on here. What do you want? Some sort of medal that reads: "I HAVE FIGURED OUT STARKEY'S HORRIBLE SECRET AND THEREFORE I AM A SPECIAL SNOWFLAKE WHO DESERVES SPECIAL ATTENTION FROM ALL OF UBOACHAN HA HA HA."?

If you don't like what you see so far, then ignore it. I'm not forcing you or anyone else here to look at what I'm working on.

tl;dr If you don't like anthro or bunnies then clearly you're in the wrong place. :3

>> No.8280   [Delete]   [Edit]

I see a lot of promise in this project, not everything worth millions and beautiful is grand. Its all about the idea and spirit put behind it.
I see original work here and that is enough to put it grand in my book.

i'm pretty sure you're a troll, hence my obnoxiousness

>> No.8295   [Delete]   [Edit]

openly furry

must be troll

or was it that he was asking for advice that made you think that

>> No.8298   [Delete]   [Edit]

I love that you guys are saying he's a troll just because he's a furry, you're the ones that look like you're trolling.
I like the rabbit design so far. Keep at it. people basically shat all over .flow when it was first posted, now it has its own board, so dont be too discouraged.

Another background. I'd like to take a minute to thank all the people on here who are behind this despite my inexperience. Thanks guys. :3

>> No.8332   [Delete]   [Edit]

That's actually really pretty, in a minimalist way

and you said you couldn't art! lies. so many lies

Do you have any plans on an alpha version coming out?

>> No.8336   [Delete]   [Edit]

this all looks really, really interesting. i loved rubyquest and i love the sound of the look that you're going for so far. i hope you'll put up a video or some screenshots (or even a release?) sometime soon. it sounds good so far.

good luck!

Thanks. :3

As for screenshots and stuff, the game itself is still in really early developement. As in, still figuring out how to use RPG Maker early. That, and I'm really lazy sometimes. I'm taking this all nice and slowly, that way I can avoid going completely insane and throwing myself out of a ground story window.

Also, more sprite attempts. This time of the rabbits' doctor, as well as the doctors' nightmare form.

Things to do this week:

-Watch RPG Maker Tutorials: I'd really appreciate it if someone could reccomend some good ones.

-Sprite: Spriting tips would also be really handy if you guys can help with that too.

-Backgrounds: This one shouldn't be too hard. But advice is still welcome.

-Script/Plot: Kind of have an idea, but still a bit sketchy on this topic.

Also, more sprite practice. This time a random goat thing.
