Hi there Uboachan. It's been a while.
I guess it's time I started sharing progress on my game, Answered Prayers.

You play as a girl named Fluorette who has run away from her home. Getting caught in a storm, you take refuge in a strange little shrine. You can't leave because the storm is too strong - all you can do is pray, and praying causes your spirit to detach from your body and enter a surreal world, seemingly comprised of the thoughts and feelings of all who visited the shrine before you.

You can download version 0.01 of the game here: http://www.mediafire.com/?vos1we3yv67j00c

Sorry about the large file size - the bulk of that is the soundtrack, which is a mixture of tracks I created myself, and ambient sounds from freesound.org.

The game may or may not run if you don't have RPG maker installed. I don't know exactly how all that works - all I know is that I installed it, and made this, and now I'm uploading it as-is. Let me know about problems so I can be better-prepared in the future.

This is the "room" - the inside of the shrine. You can enter the Spirit World by praying at the altar, and save by looking into the little well to the right.

Like YN, the idea of this game is to collect effects, i.e. "Prayers" - the dying thoughts and wishes of spirits who are trapped in the shrine.

There is an underlying plot to this game, and it will have a definite conclusion, complete with a "final boss".

Oh, another thing - you can get to the debug room by speaking to the save well once you're in the spirit world version of the shrine. There, I've got all the current Prayers lined up, most of which are also locatable in-game somewhere. You can also change your speed, and the plants are quick warps to areas I was recently working on and needed to test play quickly.

About the effects/prayers - I should mention that only two of them actually do anything when you press shift. That's one thing I need to work on more soon.

This is the hub/nexus/door-room, whatever you want to call it. There are only four doors - one for each of those spiral arms. The four-armed spiral is a hugely prevalent theme in the visual design of the game.

Likewise, where YN is disturbing and .flow is scary, AP is meant to be lonely and melancholic. Most of the areas are vast and empty of life, or else contain NPCs that can't be interacted with in any way, like ghosts.

Aside from loneliness, another driving theme is nature vs technology, as there are areas that are extreme in both ways.

I'm done blabbering for now. I leave you with some early concept art (in which I spelled my own character's name wrong, derp) and a few demos I uploaded for some friends a little while ago:

They are a tad outdated, but you'll get the general feel, I think.

>> No.5857   [Delete]   [Edit]

Downloaded it, but since I'm at school I can't play it yet. I like the idea very much and Fluorette is incredibly cute. I'll play as soon as I get home~!
I'm watching the videos now, though...

Alright. From the first video, I can say, it looks BEAUTIFUL.
Also, the music sounds very nice.
Can't wait to go back home and play~!

I've had a few people report errors running the game in general, but not that particular one - could you elaborate or possibly show me a screencap?

I'm a little saddened by how many people can't play the game - it makes me wonder if I'm uploading it the wrong way. I'm just taking the entire project folder out of my program files - is there a more efficient way of doing it?

In any case, In the meantime, I'm gonna upload another playthrough video.

Those files are both panoramas that are in the RTP and I haven't replaced them with custom ones yet. I'm thinking I might have to include them in the game folder regardless of the RTP, because I've had people who actually do have it installed and still aren't able to run the game.

Just for shits and giggles, here's the exact program folder that I'm using for 2k3. http://www.mediafire.com/?3czibchrzuawqqb

I played it earlier today, and man was it awesome. it looks really good even though it's unfinished and succeed at having its own atmosphere (to me at least.) I especially like (even though it's a pretty silly thing to like so much, haha) how the character icon in the menu changes whenever you use a prayer. I managed to get 4 on my own (halo, that one you get from the glitch world whom I've forgotten the name, tentacles and koraiyn (I believe that's how it's spelled fff)) but I'm planning to get more soon, hoho.

I really love the world in the last door with the garden swing and that shadow that disappears when you get where it's standing (I believe it gives you the phantom effect, but I didn't find out how to get it yet lol) and that area where you get the halo. I have no idea why, but it really got me.

I'll draw you some fanart when I stop being a lazy bum, hurr.

>I'm thinking I might have to include them in the game folder regardless of the RTP, because I've had people who actually do have it installed and still aren't able to run the game.

I'm not surprised, since there seems to be more than one version of the RTP floating around the net, so the RTP is there but the filenames are different. I've seen at least three different translations for it, and my rtp seems to have different filenames from yours. I used to have that one, though... I guess I forgot to keep the other RTPs when I formatted.

Also I made a Fluorette fanart but I have to wait until the scanner is free to upload it hurr

The same goes for this one - name it "strange.png", also put it in the panorama folder.

In the future I'll hopefully be able to avoid these errors because I'll be using all custom graphics. The RTP ones are just placeholders - same goes for the few RTP sounds I used.

Dude, this is all freaking awesome.
I love the feel of the game.
It indeed has that melancholic feel you're trying to pinpoint.
But it also has that feeling of fear and dread subtly placed in as well [as I saw from your recent video with the eyes sending you back to the physical world].
And a little bit of peacefulness blended in as well.

I dl'ed the original file, and have so far had 2 pop-ups/crashes. The first one I solved by moving the RGSS100J.dll into the game folder. Now I'm left with this one.... Will Sweathshirt's copy of RTP deal with it?

>> No.6013   [Delete]   [Edit]

Hmm... first of all... game weights about 90mb. Even without checking out files, I can tell that it's because of music. I don't really want to bitch around, but you could actually try looking for some midis, rather than putting wavs in game as bgm. Also, when I get my first effect (chromacoat) I could actually walk around, while using effect. That looked quite strange, while character was idle (animation played, but she was standing still), but I still moved around.

On the other hand, I must say... from the sole beginning I was amazed. First of all, there is an intro. That alone surprised me and acually made me want to play it. It just felt like there is a background, some story to tell. That was cool. Also dream world is quite neat. I didn't really liked that maze in clockwork world, but that was only because I was ripped from freedom of moving around. I was simply forced to walk a path. But anyway, I like where it's going.

I don't know why it's saying "dream diary" for you there, since my game is called Answered Prayers. I don't know much about troubleshooting, as I can only speak from experience in the few errors I've encountered. But I put up my RTP here, if you would like to try it: >>5866 I'm sorry - I hope it works for you!

>>6013
Yes, since the last release, I've been converting some of the music to mp3 and/or cropping it down to much smaller loops. I'm sorry about that - but music is important, I personally think it even comes before graphics. So I'll do what I can to reduce the size, but I won't do anything that would sacrifice quality, like replacing them with midis - don't get me wrong, I love midi, and I love how it takes up virtually no disc space, but I want this game to sound deep and immersive as much as I can help it.

Concerning the issue with the Chromakey Dreamcoat, it's fixed now and will be in the next release. ...In fact, you're the one who helped me fix that, when I was working on the Food prayer. Thank you again for that. I was serious when I said I'd add you to the credits. That issue was driving me insane.

---
I should have enough for a second update in a few weeks. Depends on school, as usual. But there are a total of 10 prayers finished as of now, and 2 or 3 more areas - I'll be adding a few more still before the next update.

About the music, I must agree, that when I started to play I was stunned by how much it enchants the mood. But still, rpg maker 2003 allows to use mp3 format actually. Just using mp3 instead of wavs would reduce game size.

Oh, btw. gears panorama doesn't loop. Just look at the screenshot, to see what I mean.

>> No.6020   [Delete]   [Edit]

>>6015
I did say I was in the process of converting some of it to mp3. The thing is, mp3s don't loop as well as WAVs, so for tracks that need to loop perfectly, I still have to use WAVs. However, the good thing is that loops tend to be short. Longer tracks, like some of the full-length songs that will be in it toward the end, will be in mp3 format because they'll only need to be played through once without looping.

And yeah, I hate that panorama. I've spent forever trying to fix it, but it looks like I'll need to remake it, which entails re-rendering it from Maya, which is how it was made. What I'm trying to do is get it so that the edges of the screen line up with the edges of the panorama, so that it doesn't need to tile seamlessly, because let's face it - rendering the gears in 3D is enough of a pain in the ass, but making it seamless on top of that? Insanity.

Is there a specific resolution for the panoramas that make them perfectly fit the screen at the edges? Mine actually positions itself randomly, sometimes the seam will be over on the other side or near the top. It's weird, it's like it can't decide where to be - I have scrolling all turned off, too.

>> No.6021   [Delete]   [Edit]

>>6020
Window resolution is 320x240 and I belive that's most suitable size for all graphics, that need to cover whole screen and loop. It's just a guess tho...

>> No.6023   [Delete]   [Edit]

I have to say, in the snow area [or snowy highway area], I see alot of symbolism and sadness.
The Halow effect may've come from a little girl, who, believed she would become an angel when she died, but those ends came too soon for her unfortunately, possibly due to a car accident in winter, or something of the sorts.
Fluorette comes along, and finds the halo left behind from possibly the little girl, because she had met an untimely death [the girl, not Fluorette].

Yeah yeah, I'm divulging too deep onto the subject, but that's what I see.
The whole game is for all sorts of interpretation.

That's what I thought as well, but 320x240 doesn't seem to work. Oddly enough. :/

>>6023
I'm glad you were able to gain some kind of meaning from it. Minor events like that, I will leave open to interpretation, but Fluorette's own story will have some definite truths to it.

---
On a COMPLETELY unrelated note, in case anyone has noticed that one of the prayers is a direct reference to Shinraku! Ika Musume (Invasion! Squid Girl!), I will be changing that pretty soon. The tentacle effect will still be in there, because I have a thing for tentacles (heheh), but I don't know if I like having that prayer be such a direct reference to Squid Girl (mostly because it (squid girl) isn't even finished and I'm not even sure if I'm going to like it enough in the end to actually go through with that.)
I'm thinking maybe just Fluorette's head with several tentacles under it? Or... I don't know, any suggestions regarding the Tentacle prayer? I'm open to'em.

Gah, no! Don't change Ika. It would be actually cool to have some unexpected refference like that. And not everyone watches Ika Musume, so not everyone relate that effect to her.

But if you want to change it, than maybe you could make her look kinda like Saya from Saya no Uta?

Now I don't even remember what I wrote. I basically responded to everyone. Goddamn.

I'm sorry to say that I don't know what causes that error - I've had a few people report getting it.

Thank you! And yeah I was hoping I'd get some oldschool bros up in here who would get excited about the gameboy world. Because I loved the FC world in YN and .flow, but I was thinking "I didn't grow up with the famicom, though - I grew up with my gameboy pocket. And pokemon. HMMM."

I love all you guys but I have to go now.

Fluorette, you went outside before so why don't you go outside again, foo.

Also, will you be adding more doors and rooms? I'd love to see them, if you are. The maps in the game are quite small and there's not many rooms. Then again, it IS v0.01.

I'm drawing Fluorette constantly buuut too lazy to scan... My scanner seems to hate my new highlight marker though. It gets too yellow on the computer even though it's supposed to be chartreuse... And I got it just for Fluorette too. Oh well, at least it still looks good in real life.

And I'll be adding more areas leading off from those first few areas, but as with .flow, there will only be 4 starting worlds. (I like .flow a lot, and I use it for inspiration almost as much as YN).

Here's a map, for anyone interested. I don't think that's everything, and some areas I have left out to conserve space.

Yeah, Seccom Masada's Puddle World. That's what that place looks like, to me.

And Fish Eyes, because I assume that thing is a giant rabid fish.

I'm fairly certain you can understand why I named everything else the way I did.

Anyway, the game is beautiful, and the music is good, too.

As for a theory, I think that each door is taken from someone else's dreamworld after they had prayed at the altar.

Keep up the good work.

Wow, awesome! I'm digging this, especially Seccom Masada's Puddle world. Hahahaha! Whatever helps you remember it. its real name is technically Border Land but I don't mind. I liked the idea of doing the inverse of the dark puddle world in YN. But with elements of the white desert as well.

Fish eyes is fine, too - I assume it's some kind of sea monster, and calling it "fish eyes" makes it sound less freaky, like it would be just some visual distortion effect. Which I like, because it will make people stumble into the horror unwittingly. (I'm slightly sadistic)

But yeah this is really cool. My only suggestion, if you plan on continuing this, would be showing the prayers differently than the areas, since they look like they're also areas on this map. But otherwise, I love this, and it's funny because I've made myself maps and they looked just like it.

>>6179
Those little desktop pals? I never knew those had a name... Googling Shimeji only brings up mushrooms. Haha. What is needed to make one? I can draw Fluorette for you if you want.

>>6214
I like it! That spotty white texture reminds me a lot of the white desert in YN. Also Competor.

CONCERNING PICTURE

I'm currently making the forest area, and I've also been on a hardcore Earthbound binge lately (just got Poo, hooray), so I've been studying the art in it, and I have to say, I really like how simplistic it is - it makes me feel like I'm overworking a lot of the areas in my game, trying to make them too realistic. So I'm thinking of doing the forest kind of like the earthbound forests (above) rather than the way I've been doing it (below). Notice how the ground in earthbound is a flat plain with very minimal texturing, yet still very convincing. I'm used to practically killing myself over rendering EVERY BLADE OF GRASS, AAAA.

So here's my proposition - would Uboachan rather I:

>(a) take longer and make it look more hyper-detailed like it is in other places?

-OR-

>(b) try a simpler approach, which will bring about the next update sooner?
>> No.6216   [Delete]   [Edit]

The sooner the better, as they say. And besides, it wouldn't be good to exert much effort into one place alone.

>> No.6218   [Delete]   [Edit]

well .. this is hard to decide .. but I think the same .. should not have much detail on one type of game, so it will look very full in some places and not others, would be confusing

>> No.6220   [Delete]   [Edit]

>>6215

I'll probably put the Prayers and Points of Interest as an icon (either using the prayer giver's sprite, or Flourette using the prayer) above or next to the location just to show it's there.
I'll probably also add a background composed of the locations and such.

Also, (b) seems to be the better choice. Like Neimu said, it's better to not stress yourself with just one area.

Oh and, in the bottom right corner of the Nexus, there's a tree with no top. You've probably noticed this by now, but better safe than sorry.

Making a Shimeji is pretty easy if you can draw.
Just go download a Shimeji, there all over deviantart now, if you cant find one, just google "Masada shimeji"
The first link should be by Aijin-Akuma.
Click, then look to the left, and click "Downlad File."
When done there is a file inside called "Img" and inside there should be shime 1-46 inside, edit those to make it, but dont re-name them.
To get how the pictures go, just click on the application file and watch him to figure out how the pictures go.

Plus, you have no idea how much of a help you've been. I've been trying to make my own game, but Yume Nikki's codes were so complicated and Asianese so I couldn't test mine against them. Then I took a look at a few of your codes and it made so much more sense.

Hi.

I'm having an issue. A lot of people seem to think the symbol that's prevalent throughout AP is a swastika. I always knew a few people would make that mistake, but as time goes on, I get more and more comments on it, and I feel it's a matter of time until I start getting asked if I am Nazi.

So, first of all, NO, I am NOT a Nazi.

And secondly, if this continues to be a problem, I may change the symbol. What are Uboachan's thoughts on this? Should the symbol be changed?

It would still be a spiral of some variety. I would probably make it more like the one on the floor of the shrine, with only two arms rather than 4.

And also, I'm pretty damn close to getting the next update out. If I was going to revise the symbol, I'd do it in the next version. The only thing I really have left to do in this one is make the whacking animation for the shovel so it doesn't look like you're just staring things to death.

Last edited 11/01/17(Mon)20:10.

>> No.6504   [Delete]   [Edit]

Honestly, I made no correlation to the swastika thing at all while playing your game. In fact, I actively looked to see if I could find more of them, like Hidden Mickeys or something lol.

You could put a disclaimer if it keeps happening somewhere, or just change it. It would be a shame to change it as I like it a lot. D:

Perhaps do something small, like make the center a square?

At least swastikas don't have squares in their centers, lol.

>> No.6505   [Delete]   [Edit]

I say keep it. Sure, one's bound to mark the similarities sooner or later, but it's still unique and should be kept. People who make a fuss are just the people who like to make something out of nothing. I wouldn't put a disclaimer, it'd just draw attention to it.

I personally view it as some interesting, squarish spiral or whirlpool-esque thing.

If you want to change it, only thing I'd suggest round it out a bit, or cut off the ends a bit. Same general shape, yet less like a swastika. Still, I say keep it. I like the shape.

>> No.6508   [Delete]   [Edit]

The word swastika means lucky charm or something, while the actual shape has been used in a lot of cultures and means different things. All the nazis did was make it popular.

It's really up to you whether you want to change it or not.

>so it doesn't look like you're just staring things to death.

But I liked imagining that the shovel gave you the power to shoot invisible lazers at things.

>UPDATE TIME

---
http://www.mediafire.com/?zdww10cn68bts2n
---

Yeah, so... yeah... First of all, I apologize (again) for the amount of time since the first upload. There is a lot of new stuff, BUT, given how long it took me, I feel like there should be a LOT more. What's there is more or less polished to a shine now, however. Everything works better in general. And I've removed every single RTP asset that I know of, so maybe more people will be able to play it now.

There are now 10 prayers total, all of which can be found in the environment. I removed the debug room entrance, so you're on your own for finding everything, unless you open it with RPG maker.
This version also marks the first appearance of the Shovel prayer and the Chimiko, both of which are obviously big components to the gameplay.

Uh... I dunno what else to add. I just pulled an all-nighter to get this out. It's still vastly incomplete, and you'll notice many areas still have several loose ends and lack of events or NPCs. I've still got a ton of stuff to add, but I had to make a cut-off point somewhere, or I'd never update until it was done. Hahaha.

As usual, please tell me about any bugs you run across - even if it seems obvious - I have missed the tops of trees in plain sight before. :P

And... have fun!

>> No.6593   [Delete]   [Edit]

Oh, I forgot to mention another thing --

As per usual, there's a lot of music, and most of the download size will consist of it. But I actually went ahead and took out all the tracks that weren't implemented, and I know that some of you like to listen to the music, so I also uploaded an Extra-Sound pack with a few miscelanious tracks in it - some old, some new, and one that I still don't know what to do with.

...and you can download it here - http://www.mediafire.com/?zy1w8lct6wdsljv

:>

OH, and also, whoever made the Answered Prayers /fg/ banner, I love you. That made my day.

Welp. I can honestly say that this is my absolute favorite fangame.

2kki is way too big and jumpled. .flow is good, but the scare factor doesn't appeal to me that much. But this game. This game has a style. It's so... interesting. The colors work so well. It's so fun to explore.

I just finished exploring every possible area I could find (at the expense of my mouse cursor turning into eight or nine mini cursors after leaving fullscreen for some reason), and I love it.

Also. Those shrine maidens. I waited until after I got all the effects I could before shovelling one. Dear god, they're scary.

So, yeah. Kudos to you. The gears in that one panorama still clip weirdly, but that's the only complaint I have. I don't even mind it, really.

Time to fix my mouse and then open RPG Maker to see if I missed anything.

Oh. Wow.

Your game is absolutely amazing. The update was FANTASTIC to an already inspiring game. I just can't find my way to the light effect, but it doesn't matter. Your game is one that I actually want to sit down and just explore forever, and save for the effects I already knew about, I didn't feel a need to go searching for them. Other fangames don't make me want to do that.

I found all the prayers and even visited Chimiko.

I had funny reactions to the game. There was NOPEing, there was AWWWWWWing, and then there was times for a massacre. The noises Fluorette makes when she refuses to use a prayer or refuses to leave the shrine, it's very cute.

I was a little bit disappointed when I found out that the Koraiyan didn't boost your speed anymore. And the last prayer that I (technically) found was the one that boosts your speed. It was still easy to find the prayers and some places even.

Uhhhh, it's fun. Glitches that I noticed is that when you're walking down the alleyway to the streets where you can find sandwich prayer some of Fluorette's sprite pokes out the sides where they shouldn't. Er. Otherwise everything is pretty okay so far. It's very good.

Yeah, I'm still not sure what to do about the gears, but whatever I end up doing, I'm going to put off until the very end when I'm making final tweaks and smoothing out all the kinks.

>>6597
I appreciate that. It's nice to have a map, which will be especially true in later versions where the game will become fairly large.

>>6598
Hahaha, the spider is very intentional. Even the not dying part.

And yes! Something does happen in the bright area if you figure out what to do! It doesn't yield any prayers or items, but it is kinda cool. I'll probably add more to that whole area and that event later on.

And thank you very much for the fanart!
Just so you guys know, I've saved every piece of fanart you've made. I have an AP fanart folder on my computer. I cherish each and every one as a little piece of motivation. You guys are awesome.

>>6600
10 in total. To fix the broken sandals, I'll give you a clue: You need to take them to someone who will fix them for you, and you'll need some money as well. :>

>>6601
Thank you very much!
Also, keep trying for that Light prayer! It lets you get to one of my personal favorite areas in the game (the greyscale world). I'm sure you'll get it if you spend a while trying to figure out that maze.

>>6602
Hahaha, yeah, I did. Someone found this before, actually, but I don't think anyone else noticed.
I love Uboa. <3

>>6603
Actually, the Koraiyn never boosted speed. Maybe it only seemed like it before? I know I never programmed it to, so...
And yeah, maybe I made the speed item too hard to find. I usually use the debug room to jump everywhere but I realize it can be very annoying to have to walk all over the place at low speed. I would say that I did it intentionally to force the player to slow down and enjoy the ambiance, but... nah, I just wasn't thinking. Who knows, I may make the components for that one easier to find or something.

You're right about the buildings, too. I will definitely fix that in the next version! Thank you!

---

I've been tweaking things ever since posting v0.02. And I've made many notes based on everyone's comments. Also, I think I will post another video soon. If anyone else wants to make any videos, you don't need to ask me by the way (but make sure you do show me, I'm interested in seeing). There are a few events it seems no one has found yet. I look forward to seeing when they get discovered. :)

Actually, I just came to post that I'm getting a Livestream account set up so I can record a Let's Play-esque stream of it this weekend. Going to try to do it this weekend.

I don't know why I love commenting on this game but I do. But, two more things that I forgot to add- I loveee that Nuh-uh sound effect and I like the fact that the speed item is hard to find. Game isn't as big as Yume Nikki, so it makes travelling around not that difficult. Really enjoyable to explore, actually.

So, yeah, I'll keep you guys informed about that livestream.

Okay. Times and everything are settled.

Stream is going to be on Sunday, February 13th, from 4PM-7PM EST. Around 3:30 will be time for expository banter for anyone who wants to join then.

4PM-5PM EST will be Let's Draw. Me coloring a meme, and answering any questions and possibly taking any requests for drawing things. Done in GIMP.

5PM-7PM EST will be the Let's Play, if you aren't interested in the above. I'll pretty much explore everything possible, check out what people want me to see or help me with things I might miss, stuff like that. Ending time is tentative depending on how good I am, but shouldn't be longer than 7.

>IN OTHER NEWS, HEY GUYS:

I need someone who doesn't have RPG maker to be my guinea pig. Following a tutorial I got off Moga's thread, I've created what I THINK is an RTP-independent version of answered prayers, and I want to test it to see if it works on systems that have no RTP. This is a big deal because if it works, it essentially doubles the number of people who can play the game.

Download is here - http://www.mediafire.com/?i0jmy1j0c4kroce

If you try it on a system that has no RTP, please let me know how it goes! I'm about to go try it out on the computers at my college. I'll report back with what I find.

>> No.6616   [Delete]   [Edit]

Here's two bugs I encountered:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NW1LnXzRvSQ

First bug happens when using the shrine to wake up instead of pressing 9. It acts like the effect is still equipped when it isn't. I think the only way to fix this is to make the shrine unable for use in the spirit world, otherwise it only counts as a portal and not waking up.

Second bug happens when walking and pressing 9.

Also, I'm still working on the map, though it's very easy to get lost, which I actually like about the game. 2kki is too cluttered to get lost, and .flow doesn't really have open worlds.

Also, Flourette's voice is so :3

And when I shoveled the girl in the grayscale world, fffffff.

>> No.6622   [Delete]   [Edit]

>>6616
Very good observations! I watched your video, and have since been able to fix both bugs.
For the shrine thing, I just deleted that event - I had actually forgotten it was there, since it was just a temporary event until I finished the wake-up event.
And I fixed the walking issue by inserting a 0.1 second wait before she does the animation. I've found that buffering every sprite animation with waits is a generally good idea, and always makes things smoother. It also makes the event script look very neat and easy to read.
Thank you again for pointing those out, and good luck on the map! Ask me if you are unsure about anything. I have my own map that I use for laying out the game but it's on scrap paper, hahaha.

>>6618
Did it give you an error message? I think someone else has had that problem too.

>>6621
There's a few other hidden events but that's all the prayers! And that's the only fast Chimiko so far. Probably the only one I'll make. Don't tell anyone where she is so they're not expecting it. :P

Well, I've got another bug and a typo.

The typo is in the picture. The other bug is with the shovel. When you hit something or someone with the shovel, it flips it over your shoulder, so if you had it in your hand before, and you hit shift, it'll play the animation to flip it over your shoulder.

I've finished the map, I believe, and I may need your help with the names, unless you like me naming them absurd things. I don't think I'm gonna post a new one few a few updates, though.

Also something small I noticed was that the glitched world (gygas) background doesn't blend smoothly from the top. There is a cut off that runs into the next noticeably

Also, I have been drawing some strange locations with Flourette in them, would you like to see them/use them?
(pic is abstract lol)

>> No.6637   [Delete]   [Edit]

The Chimiko in the blood world ran diagonally through me twice. Freaked me out the first time it happened. If it helps I had the little red thing from the blood lake following me at the time.

That said, this game is amazing so far. I especially love the music. Even though this is obviously a Yume Nikki inspired game, it doesn't feel like it's trying to be Yume Nikki with different sprites. It's a lot more peaceful, and as you said, there's going to be a story other than "girl takes lots of naps, sees freaky shit". I hope to see more of it soon.

Also, Missingno. in the building in Gameboy world scared me more than Fish Eyes. I was playing fullscreened at the time and it was awesome. :)

>> No.6685   [Delete]   [Edit]

I found another glitch.

After you shovel the girl by the well in the grey city, and try to go back up the stairs with the tall geta on, they get unequipped when Fluorette does her "nuh-uh" animation but the effects are kept. Then if you re-equip the geta, you go even faster, and they get unequipped again once you go up the stairs... I repeated this about ten times and ended up with Fluorette appearing to teleport across the screen because she was moving so fast.

Also, it stays when you go back to your body. Cue Fluorette spazzing around in the shrine.

Speaking of Karakasa, in my current playthrough I'm missing only it and the Tall Geta, but it shows me with 9 effects. Probably me derping or it's counting the instructions as an Effect. Also I absolutely love the game, can't wait to see the next update.

>> No.6694   [Delete]   [Edit]

>>6691
This happens in Yume Nikki itself as well with the effects. What it is, is that the little "P" in the menu is actually - according to RPG maker - Fluorette's LEVEL. So when you find a prayer, it increases her level by 1. But since it can never be 0, it will always be 1 higher than you actually have.

Or we can just say that yes - it's counting the diary as a prayer. Either way.

I think I found a glitch in this world. When you use the phantom effect and turn Fluorette invisible, moving from one room to another, Fluorette's avatar goes back to the regular phantom while she seems to remain invisible.

So yeah, invisibility is on in this picture.

it works! i was having trouble playing it before and since i have it functions well! i haven't found any issues yet and i'm very intrigued with how much more i like this than 2kki. it has a lot of originality, and very different than any of the other fangames i've played so far which i'm really excited about.

i really would love to know more about her as a character, not that i'm asking for upfront explanations (where's the fun in that?). maybe little hints, or maybe i haven't ventured deep enough into the game.

i love the design, effects, and especially the music.

also, do you have any names for the other humanoid characters?

>> No.6723   [Delete]   [Edit]

>>6710
Unfortunately this isn't a glitch. I've just been too lazy to make the event that checks whether you're invisible or not when you enter a new room. adds to to-do list

>>6712
oh whoops, yeah. That area needs a lot of work anyway. hahaha.

>>6715
Thanks!
As for Fluorette, there will be many opportunities to learn more about her in the future. While most of the prayers and worlds are not part of her own subconscious, there will be certain places and events (and eventually a few prayers) which are implied to be native to Fluorette's mind, and you'll be able to slowly piece together her story by viewing/collecting them.

Aside from the Chimiko, I haven't thought of any names for any of the characters. I don't feel like most of them need it. Except for the little red guy who follows you (I know he's not humanoid but w/e). I feel like I should name him something, since he's literally the first NPC I ever made in this game.

>> No.6724   [Delete]   [Edit]

I can't believe I hadn't played this sooner. You already have a thread full of people telling you this, but Answered Prayers is the best fan game I've played. (And I've been playing 2kki, .Flow, and a bunch of others for some time now!)

Every area I've explored in the game has a well-executed atmosphere, the prayers are creative and promising for future additions, and the fact that there's a vague back-story gives AP a subtle sense of direction that Yume Nikki lacks.

Wonderful work, especially for a game that's so early into production.

I'm glad the april fools joke went over well, but now, business:

I actually am now working on the real version 0.03. It should be a few months or so, give or take. I'm still taking everyone's comments, opinions, and suggestions into account, so please share any ideas you have, as always.

Also, again, there is a website: http://fluorette.yolasite.com/
It is probably the best place to download stuff because I keep it up to date and it never moves or anything. So yeah.

Peace, uboachan.

>> No.6924   [Delete]   [Edit]

bump for progress info.

;-;

On a side note, I've drawn Fluorette a few times, but my scanner isn't working, but I'll try and see if I can post it here soon.

Hey,

Well, I've been on hiatus for a while, partly because school, partly because I started losing interest. But now I'm starting to work on it more.

Some things I've changed/added in the last day or two:

-Tall Geta are way easier to get and you don't necessarily need to have the shovel to get them (though you can still earn your money that way if you want)

-In addition, the Forest area, the white puddle area, and the clockwork area have all be either shrunken or reworked to be FAR less frustrating to navigate.

Also, what do you guys think of the current screaming sound effect? (like when you whack something) I personally find it kind of grating and I'm heavily considering changing it, or at least upping the pitch and downing the volume. The way it sounds for the Chimiko is more ideal and I might just make it like that for all NPCs in general (kinda how it's always the same in YN regardless of what you stab).

I want to finish this game so badly. D:

edit: oh and I changed the tentacles effect. I'm not really enough of a fan of ikamusume to give it such an homage, really. I feel silly for including that in the first place.

now you actually just become a... fluorette squid thing.

yes. do what you said

>> No.7212   [Delete]   [Edit]

just downloaded, i played for a good hour straight (had to go to stuff)
its really good!!

I cheated by watching the videos so i already knew about cat eyes but i was wondering if making the shrine ladies angry or doing the scary effects changed the game, like made certain things available
also whats up with the black things in blood world that turn to glitches, any significance?

>> No.7260   [Delete]   [Edit]

I...think I love you. Like, lots and lots. And your game. Lots and lots and lots.

It's really well thought out, and while it's Yume Nikki-esque, it's not a direct reproduction. I love Fluorette's character design~

I haven't finished playing, actually, I only started pretty recently, but I still love it to death already~!

Wow, I've just started playing this but this is amazing. I LOVE the atmosphere it creates. And it really does feel lonely, like you said. In Yume Nikki I felt like I was exploring the domain of another, and I always anticipated seeing something living. In this it feels different...and it's nice. In some areas it makes it calming (like in the snow world) and in others it makes it kind of eerie (like in the 99rooms area).

I really love this. Keep up the great work.

Thanks much! I'm working on it more now. I've been dinking around with it all day.

As for those glitchy things in the red world, no, they're just random NPCs.

RPG maker has some issues with mp3 files - they used to work fine for me, but now they cause the game and the program to crash. I don't know why. Seems new permanent errors emerge all the time, like RPG maker is actively decaying on my computer. Spooky. Anyway, I'm taking all the mp3 files out and replacing them with wavs, so that will make the download size even larger - sorry. Nothing I can do. This may clear up a lot of errors for other people too, though, as I recall some people having this issue before it started happening to me.

Also, a sort of update - my friend designed the character on the left for me to use (http://fav.me/d391w5c), so there's the sprite version I made on the right.

The basic premise is that she's this elevator attendent who can take you to a number of "floors" in a certain area, each being a different area entirely. One of the areas is Fluorette's "home", so this is a rather important point in the game (or rather, will be, when I have made it).

Man I love this game, really great
I especially love the resounding thunk when you smack something with the shovel
thank you thank you thank you for making this so that you don't need the RPG maker installed

but I'm curious I went into the surreal world and checked out the well there and went to this bonus room where I easily obtained the food, shadow, tall geta (already had the broken ones), and the halo by talking to things. It couldn't have been meant to be that easy are the places you find them in just not finished yet?

>> No.7477   [Delete]   [Edit]

I think that's the debug room

>> No.7488   [Delete]   [Edit]

>>7476
Yeah, what >>7477 said, haha - that's my debug room. I use it to quickly test effects, events, and quickly move to areas I'm working on. You can just pretend it's not there if you want, since it won't be available in the final version of the game.

haha i love that you guys are actually finding all this silly little shit i put in there. Makes it all the more rewarding to work on.

Some updates:
I have all the prayers figured out and am working on getting them all completed before the next version. I also have most of the story finished. basically the rest of the game is all mapped out at this point. All I have to do is make all the shit and put it together. Of course the next version won't be the FINAL one but it will have a substantial amount of story, I think. (that is, what qualifies as "story" in a minimalistic exploration game...)

Also sorry for the tripchange again. last time. promise. :<

Picture TOTALLY not related to AP. NOPE.

Im just here to say i REALLY like the game so far.
My favorite place so far has to be the undersea lab. The music is just lovely.
Sorry about the pic, it was something i threw together in less then in hour while falling asleep

I love it! This is actually the first fanart anyone has drawn of her in that outfit (i think). Sadly I changed it for the next version, but this is still very nice.

On another note, I'm going to change how you get the sandals - that is, you find them in working condition in the woods, and it's another prayer you need to get fixed... As for which one, I can't decide. Maybe the shovel? Would anyone find it MORE irritating if the shovel had to be fixed before it could be used? There would be a way to get money without going too far out of your way so you could pay for it...

>> No.8073   [Delete]   [Edit]

i dont think it matters either way. Just make sure there is more stuff to beat up when we actually get the shovel.

>> No.8075   [Delete]   [Edit]

>>8073
hahaha, will do!

>> No.8076   [Delete]   [Edit]

I don't want to sound like a whiney, obnoxious fanboy, nor do I wish to pressure you, but out of curiosity do you have an idea as to when the next update will be released? The changes you're mentioning make me excited to see what new things you add~

>> No.8093   [Delete]   [Edit]

I really don't want him to set a deadline, please take your time, Sweatshirt. The more complete and polished the game is, the better.

Anyway, can you please not include (or at least hide) the debug room next time? Just saying, cheating should never be this easy, the first time I played the game I thought it was an actual part of the game until I interacted with one of the prayers, y'know.

Definitely taking it out for next version. I don't think I even intended for it to be in THIS version. And yeah that could totally ruin the experience for someone.

On the note of a deadline - I literally cannot specify one. I can't tell what's gonna happen IRL anymore.
