If you're talking about alternate RPGMaker- like platforms, there's an engine called OHRRPGCE (yes, really) that's... well, it's different. Other than that... hell if I know.

VERGE 3 for the win, baby. It's a hell of a lot more flexible than RPG Maker, at the expense of having to do pretty much everything yourself.
