Also version .018. Seems the game is going for a 'the world changes as you collect effects' route. It could lead to something very interesting.

Here's a little dumb yet interesting question.
In Yume Nikki and this fangame,
when you enter the dream world, you hear like a steady note or in this case, like a fan of some sorts [like it was blowing in your ear].
I know it signifies you've entered the dream world, but why this sound though?

It has nothing specific to do with either game, but a low hum-like noise can have certain effects on some people.
Some theorize that it cause certain hallucinations, like thinking you've been abducted by aliens, or see a ghost. At least that's what a few people have told me.
So, it may be a way for the game to help put you in a state of unease, and open your mind to being drawn into it.
But, this is just speculation.

But alot of people say it's her mom.
She has longer hair than chie though... hard to tell. Maybe Chie is just imagining herself young even though she was an older woman when she died.

I pretty much agree with you, but when I was rewatching the ending the "hair" looked more like a shadow... I could be totally wrong, though. I've come to believe that it is indeed Chie(hence that one event where she stabs her "other self" in her dream, and everything turns red). I kind of theorize that she killed herself while sleepwalking, and that the Chie we see walking around is her spirit.

I actually have no clue. I could be totally wrong.

While I have been trying different methods to run this game, none have worked.
I get a message shown in the picture. Which I assume has to do with the missing files for chie and various other folders. Another thing is when I tried to extract the four different parts of v.020 7zip gives me messages for broken files, so they cannot be unzipped properly.

Is there something more I need to do with these downloads or does this version need some sort of patch?

No it didn't work for me, I've even tried downloading v.019 but it seems some of the sound files are broken and can't be unzipped.

And the ones that actually unzipped are missing folders worth of files

Weird... that happened to me once but redownloading it resolved the issue. Out of curiosity, did it ever say a specific file was damaged/corrupt? When my error occured, it was BGM_34 that was the issue. I tried everything but the only thing that fixed it was completely deleting it and reinstalling it.
Also, have you checked the general help threads on this board? There might be some useful info there, and if anything that might be a better place to ask.

Trying to wake up in version 0.20 with any effect that you obviously can't pinch with will cause you to be unable to use any effects or access your menu. I had that happen to me right after obtaining the fishbowl effect...
