Hey, /fg/,
Being the derp that I am, I've decided to come up with some stuff. I can't compose music, design sprites or program worth shit, so instead I'll draw and write. Taking it upon myself to create a little fan...whatever you want to call it, a spin-off of YN. I plan on there being 10 worlds and 25 effects.

The main character, Chiritsuki (chiri meaning dust), uses an axe as her weapon. Just her initial design.

10 worlds is a little dense in matter of effects. You can start with 10 if you want, but I suggest expanding it.
Also, remember that the effects shouldn't be the only thing in the game. There were quite a few other things (uboa being the main one) in yume nikki that were interesting.
I can't do much, so I'm sorry if I don't offer my help. I could try make some music though.

Well, I was meaning worlds as in, places that could be accessed by doors or other obvious means, not little hidey places. But that too! I sort of only came up with it today, but I'll keep thinking about little things. Expanding would seem like a good idea. :3

I was planning on having a Cathedral world, and an effect that could be collected there would be the "nun" effect, among other things as well. :D Something about it making enemies that chase after you no longer hostile, but only as long as you've equipped the effect.

I also was sort of thinking about having a world or maybe like a little even or something being about teeth, because I have like this weird fear of teeth. Not in general, but like losing teeth or having teeth pulled out. = u = Plus blood/hearts are extremely overused. :I

The fact that blood/hearts are overused is wells said. Now...The teeth world seems a nice, pretty original idea. The nun effect too.
By the way, an idea is that balcony will have a fair amount of dust in it, or the background being a desert. Sort of as a shout out to the other game that did this.
I'll think of more ideas and post them around. Think of some sort of a "layout" for the worlds you're thinking about, such as, what NPCs would be there, how would they look, buildings, caves, holes in the frickin ground, you know. The teeth world could have a layout of a mouth, someway. You think about it.
Also, what's the atmosphere of the whole game?

The balcony having a lot of dust on it would be cool, and perhaps a lot of inside stuff as well! :U I'm not sure if I want to make Chiri a total hikkikomori, but probably something along those lines.

For the teeth world, I imagined that there would be teeth all over the place you know, like just sort of fissuring out of the ground. But, I also imagined that there'd be this other room that you could enter, and the teeth would be displayed in a manner like that of the teeth on the lower jaw, complete with a tongue to walk on. The teeth would be sort of yellow, and you could be able to cut them down with the axe. I'm not sure if there could be something under one of them, perhaps an effect. Not quite sure.

Should I post what ideas I have for effects?

I'm still working on NPCs, but I'll jot some stuff down and come up with other things. I drew some other fail sketches in class of Chiritsuki, and goggles would be another effect. :D

OH. I also had an idea for like an special event to be triggered. There would be a gown effect to collect, though it wouldn't really be used in the same area that it would be collected in. In another area (probably one that would be somewhat difficult to just stumble upon on your own) there would be a big room with a large window in the middle, showing the half moon. The room would be somewhat dark with only a few items in the room, but otherwise useless. My idea was that once the gown effect was put on before entering the room, once the room was entered, the room would be bright and would be fully illuminated with the moon in the window being full. I'm not sure quite yet, but one of the items in the room (perhaps a bookcase?) could be turned into a man that Chiritsuki could dance with. |D Not sure other than that. I must develop this mysterious man.

Well, I guess the backwards effect would make you walk backwards. In a very certain area that's currently developing in my mind, it would have the ability to move back time to access another area. (wrecked train -> Still up there -> ooh, look! A door!!)
And well, the Sandman...2 things: 1. SANDMAN KILLS. 2. Access to somewhere through the sand world.

And the sandman could mean you're like a pile of sand with eyes and perhaps arms. Also, here are more effects.

WE IS ALRIGHT WITH ME, MAN. It always sucks when you're planning every little thing by yourself. :'c

Uhm, I still only have Teeth World, Cathedral World and Sandstorm World. = u = I haven't had much luck in coming up with words.

In Teeth World, as I said, teeth would be fissuring up out of the ground with a black background and creepy looping music playing. I imagine being a dick would be cool and block a lot of different ways with teeth, or just make a maze out of it for some part.

Sandstorm World would be like, pretty much a massive sandstorm. Even though it's lame, the goggles effect would attempt to help (as without the goggles there is a ridiculous speed reduction, and you're hardly moving through the thick sand) and enable you to at least go regular speed. I also would imagine that, it being a sandstorm, there's not much to use as landmarks, so you generally feel as though you're wandering in a desert forever. I imagined there being like this massive blazing sun looming overhead with sort of hopeless-sounding music to really make you realize that this is the fucking desert. :D

AAaaaand, for now Cathedral World. I've been to a lot of French and Italian churches 'cause I travel a lot, so using my knowledge from those churches as well as trying to add the creepiness factor without over doing it...!! I would imagine that the main room is the entrance to a church, and that when you walk north, there are a whole ton of pews and normal churchy things. The room would be rather dark, illuminated by what light is coming through the stained-glass windows of whatever the hell I feel like. I could make some massively frightening whatevers appear if I can think of some. I also had an idea about in a deeper section of the church, there would be a giant cross, and there's someone bleeding on the cross. You could stab them, and make them scream/bleed, but they wouldn't die.

OH. And. Not really sure where I'm going with it, but I had another idea for a while. Blank World. :D The only way things can be seen are with Sunglasses (a fail-attempt at a cool effect). Without sunglasses, the only thing that's really there except endless white, is the door leaving Blank World. With the sunglasses on, everything turns sort of grey, but there are still hardly any landmarks at all, if any. Hmmm, could landmarks be like little cracks in the ground? I need to think about this one.

Ohhawww yeah. Here are some fail sketches that probably should have been darkened but I'm a lazy mofo. :'c

There's the bookshelf that turns into a guy with the gown effect equipped. He doesn't have a name yet. Neither do the NPCs. But there's an idea for a monster floating around Teeth World. :D I call him Cheshire. /shot

After hearing these, I advise the sandstorm to be some sort of almost dead-end area, leading to 1 place or so. It'll make it very, very hard to navigate, since you're in a sandstorm and there's no landmarks. What can be used as a landmark? Maybe some bushes? or a snake or something.

Blank World. I'm pretty sure I've heard of something like that in Yume 2kki (EDIT: Nope, that's in Rainychan's game), but I guess it's alright. Also, sunglasses = Yume 2kki's glasses. It's what they do there too. (making certain areas move visible) also approve of the cracks in the ground idea.
I approve of all the sketches. The unnamed guy could be the Submarine people (.flow , there are 2 appearantly) of this game!

By the way, do note that nothing except the main character and the game itself needs a name. That's optional. We just need something to refference it. Other people can name it. (meaning, it's not important right now)
Ideas for more worlds are now forming, please wait...

I have yet to play Yume 2kki or .flow, but I know not all of the ridiculous ideas floating around in my head are cool. In fact. Few are cool. A small oasis could be used to navigate, I guess? Maybe like a small little spring or something very minor... HM.

I don't really plan on naming the characters anything specific, but some of my friends like to call him Bookshelf-Kun. xD

I'll try to ask my friends about other ideas for worlds so that it sounds more original. I really don't want to entirely mooch people's ideas. D':

I don't know if it's that good an idea to make the sandstorm world hard to navigate without the goggles, because it'd be extraordinarily frustrating if someone decides to try and then gives up half way, since they'd have to crawl back to the entrance or wake up. If you want to keep the slowdown, you could have a ring of warp points around the entrance that warp you back out of the world (for example like what happens in Gerudo desert and other such areas). I just think it would be better to show that the area is near impassible without the goggles effect before people waste hours going through it.

Another idea is you could have it so the goggles increase visibility (and have it so normally it's near impossible to see things), or the goggles are a prerequisite to get into the world (like you need it to get into a separate world that links to the desert, so it's not that obvious)

If you're going to make it a dead end area anyways, I guess it's not that big a deal.

I guess I need to think about it a little bit and make the Sandstorm World worthwhile with maybe an effect or some sort of prize/event/etc. It'd be pretty sad if there was nothing at all. ;u;

Well, if you want to be sadistically metaphorical, you could have nothing in it, because after all, not all trials in life have rewards. Though that'd be mean to your players (unless of course they're masochistic or something and love deep metaphors). In any case I think it'd be nice to have some place either to hide out from the storm, or some kind of ruins or something that would be the "purpose" of the area. Putting a reward in there or not is all up to you. Another idea could be that the hideout could be a day/night switch, so when you exit, the time of day switches and the sandstorm weakens at night or something.

Anyways, right now it sounds like you're just throwing together random world ideas, which is I guess fine, but it's just hard for me to suggest new worlds without some kind of direction. There'll probably be other people on the board that can help with that though.

I really would like to focus on or create areas centered on people's phobias or places that they really really love. Because in my brain, distorting a sort of area that they love or hate could potentially screw them over.

Suggesting a personal fear would be cool. My own immense fear is the fear of vomit, but I can't really base a world around that. Maybe an area, but it seems kind of ridiculous. And again with the excess blood/hearts, I'd like to try to be not extremely conventional, although I know complete originality is impossible.

As for strange phobias, I have one of seeing things that aren't there, and I know aren't there. For example, there's this blank wall in my room which I've had dream(s) of being traumatized by some kind of face on it, even though no one else sees it. I don't exactly see how you could base a world on that, but it could be more like a point of interest or something. Well, maybe some kind of world where you can't tell what's there or not could work, or where you have to ignore obvious and in-your-face misdirections to progress.

I was also talking to other people just to see what people get scared of etc and I was thinking about adding a whole ton of windows to one area, or maybe even making a Window World. A lot of people, it seems, view windows as something scary because they're paranoid people will look in. Someone else suggested that looking in on the windows could perhaps show pictures of things Chiritsuki could have done, whether they be just things in her dreams or whatev. Or just creepy drawings like in the sewer area of YN. xD

I think I saw it in Oni's thread, which made me feel a little disappoint 'cause I don't want to do the same things as other people, but I was planning on maybe a school world too. OTL

Maybe like a locker maze, and there could be creepy things written on all of the chalkboards for all of the classrooms you enter. DUNNO. But I should write more stuff down.

The school idea has also been done in an actual game, Yume Nisshi. The game's pretty small too so yeah...
I approve of the window world/classroom variant. I think that at least 1 of the windows should have somthing looking at Chiritsuki. It would be really cool.
One of the windows should also be a portal somewhere, to encourage people to actually look around for it.
That's about it for ideas for now.
Well, I have another idea, but it's really hard to pull off. As a person with blood pressure problems, every time I get up, well...It's basically night vision (you can see pixels in the dark if you look at a dark spot, since our night vision isn't very good) with colours in it. So maybe we can work with that.
...Though I feel this is kind of hard to work with.

I thought that happens to everyone if they suddenly stand up after sitting for a long time. I also had the pleasure of nearly fainting from heat exhaustion and it's the same feeling, so maybe that could be an idea, like an area that's really hot so random dark spots appear in your vision. It might be interesting to have it so there's an area that's really hot where this phenomenon occurs, but it doesn't do anything until you get to a key area, where if you don't have the right effect equipped, you faint and appear back a little, like with the bar in Yume 2kki.

Then again, I think it'd be kind of annoying if every effect was used to solve some kind of impassable area, just because there'd be less charm to the effects and more purpose. I mean the feeling I got from the original Yume Nikki was that the effects are just there and do random things, and the fact that they might be helpful was just a side effect.

Also, I just noticed but the Nun effect you were talking about before is a bit like the Pyramid Head effect from Yume Nisshi, but that only pacified a certain set of enemies.

As for random world ideas, how about something like a giant desk? Like you're shrunk down and tossed onto someone's insanely cluttered desk. I mean looking at my desk right now, it's absurdly messy and could be pretty awesome to navigate, yeah? Maybe you could add a pencil effect there which makes you an outline and the effect ability would be to leave marks or something. But I vaguely remember the Uboachan project having a marker or graffiti effect that did almost the same thing...

You'd probably also want a speed boost effect, and by now most wheeled contraptions are probably getting old, so how about hallucinogenic drugs or something? Or well, I dunno, become pure electricity?

Ohh, for a wheeled contraption I planned on having a small scooter/moped type thing with perhaps a little light in the front, though the light wouldn't do anything. But if that seems too lame, I could totally opt for running shoes. The shoes could change color, and the speed could be x2 or x3 or four or whatever seemed to be a good speed boost. xD

I've never heard of Yume Nisshi and have only vaguely heard of Hallucingenia. ;u; I'm not trying to copy, le sob. ;o;

AAAAND. I have another idea. A loaf of bread could be an effect, and drop noticeable crumbs as markers. /Hansel and Gretel failure

True true... I tried to make a few cosmetic effects, such as the Buns and even Disguise didn't have a purpose (because Nun already would have fulfilled its purpose)

Hmmm, that is kind of a weird idea. Maybe if there's a transition from an all white room to an all black room, pixelated colors could appear.

Ohhh jeez! A desk probably located in a school world would be really aggravating. My desk is horrible too. > _ <U And Oni, it looked like you had "Academy World" going on, so I didn't want to like... ;o; yeah, but I think I still might go on with the School World because I have other ideas, and yes. . u .

Aaaaand, I came up with a few more characters, though I only drew one of them and haven't scanned him yet. The first is a somewhat-teenage looking boy without arms and has a white or black blindfold over his eyes, has his face has been horribly burned. I had this idea where he should have his face in a corner of an empty classroom, but have all of these eyes looking at him on a chalkboard. You could get him to follow you a bit if you pulled out the axe.

I also had another idea for an enemy event thingie...thing. In Norse mythology, there is a dream demon called a "mara" or sometimes "mare". Though in mythology their appearance/etc changes, but I planned on this mara to be a girl with long hair, though I'm not sure of which color, and as a random event thing that could happen ANYWHERE, everytime Chiri goes through a tunnel or something other than an obvious door to another room, there's a chance that Mara could start following her. Now Mara doesn't really do anything to Chiri, she just follows her. Very closely. I want Mara to look pretty creepy, but I don't want to use features that have been wayy overused, such as really long black hair that covers the face. :I

Ok, so it goes like this. Ever since I was a child, I had these dreams where...I was kind of roaming through a street-like place, where everything looked like chrome, sort of. I mean, the jelly, weird kind of chrome. The backdrop was kind of grey too. And then...Well, I get to watch some cape of the chrome thing expanding, like it's exploding.
I also had these dreams with basically everything turning round. Like those really big ballons with rice inside them. People, landscape (like a whole floor seperated from everything and turning round in a building. Crazy shit) etc.
So...Any way we could work with that?

YES, YES, YES. I'm still working on this. I've come up with two characters (or at least drawn them) though I think I've already talked about them briefly

The girl is Mara, I guess this game's (which I have decided on naming Drifter ) Uboa. I know she's not as scary, but she follows you around constantly, and will laugh if you're motionless for a short period of time.

I had a vague idea for like a City World, which I could change to Chrome World or keep as City World because I had envisioned a horrible sky-scraper maze. ;v;

I'll have to check up on my friend who's doing the spriting for me.

New Area: Drifter Palace: Okay, so this area is an Egyptian style + Roman and Hebrew letters on everything, it has a really big drifter statue, and a room which you'll need the friendly drifter for, which lets you reach a small statue of a drifter, which gives you the drifter effect. You can't really hide from them, but you can get into a Drifter bar later on XD
You'll need the spark effect to get the Elevator working though.

I was also thinking of a circus world sort of thing, or maybe more like a carnival world because I really wanted a ferris wheel. xDD For some reason. I'm not even sure myself. Ohh, and I came up with another character.

Also, I decided you need the Backwards effect for the Pyramid world, since when you reach it, it's a Cyberpunk-ish place, with...You know, all black and gray "threads" of PCB. Then you find some...Walker or something, and then it turns to the Egyptian thing we wanted. (if you try getting in before using the Backwards effect, the door's locked with all sorts of high tech mechanism. When it's back to the past, the door just needs to be opened.

Well then, I guess there probably won't be any more work on this. If there is, I'd sure be happy, but I can't say I haven't seen it coming.
I advise others to use ideas from this, as I do believe some of them are good (mostly not mine).

I can probably get RPG Maker to work if someone else does the Chipsets and those sorts of things. As a person with programming knogledge (at least a little), RPG Maker is just programming with words and not code phrases.
EDIT: Now as for the effect list...
Some of them are pretty good. We might need to switch some of them for some effects that do stuff, and maybe change scooter to something else (I'll think of something, don't worry). But they're not too bad.
EDIT: Scooter replacement possibility: A FLYING RUG. Guess where, out of the areas I had in mind, we get it.

OH YEAH. I drew Chiri's room. (finally)

I was too much of a lazy faggot to color it, but I'll explain!! The room would be in like shades of grey and earth brown. : D

The Bathroom:
I was tired of the balconies. "OTL So instead I added a bathroom. You could get inside the tub, run the water in the sink, or flush the toilet, but that's it.

It seems kind of ridiculous but I kind of wanted a time telling feature for my dumb fg. Not that anything would be affected by it (OR WOULD IT) but everytime Chiri'd go to sleep, anywhere between 5 minutes or 5ish hours could pass. It's randomly decided. The clock in the back could show what time it is (as well as opening up the menu, which would show the month, the day and the time, but no year) The game could "start" whenever the player wants it to be. Aaaaand, A think a day counting feature would be nice. |D Meaning chiri could be in her room for a few days or perhaps months. "OTL

You can get in the bed, but you don't enter the dream world that way. You enter the nexus by exiting through Chiri's main door, but only after you've been in the bed. So get in the bed, get out of bed, go through the door, shazam. I guess this means she sleepwalks. xD

Chiri has a broom and a dust pan in her room, though you can't do anything with them. You'd save by going over to Chiri's desk with all of the scattered papers on it.

If you go over to Chiri's dresser, you can open the drawers and change into a pair of pajamas. : D But you change back into Chiri's regular clothes upon entering the nexus.

Tell me if anything is dumb or interesting, 'cause I'm really just making shit up as I go. "OTL Perhaps I should stop pulling things out of my ass.

OTL is an emoticon that's supposed to resemble a stick figure on their hands and knees with their face on the floor. the O is the head while the T is the torso and the L are the legs. The " is an animu-derived thing to emphasize more...depression? If that helps.

Oh, and, I may not be dudeman, but I can tell you it would involve a few variables, constant checks on those times, and possibly a lot of updating on whatever may happen when it is a certain time.

My opinion on it is this: If you aren't going to have certain things happen at certain times, it may be something to forgo, and possibly focus on the core game. If it is part of the core-game, like certain areas can be accessed at certain times, then you should begin planning out how you might get it to work.
Give yourself lots of variable, switch, and common event room.

I think maybe we'd want the time feature to mainly be an hour. Since, if no one knows going to x world at day y does thing a, then they may as well go weeks without knowing a thing about it. But, if we have it tell the time, I think it should be alright.
This could definately be a key feature in the game.
Also, I want the clock to have a 1/64 chance to turn to Uboa. And then the door to be locked. (you need to save, exit and come back in order to keep playing. No, the time doesn't change if you save any time other than the uboaclock)
Or maybe something like having the clock be broken, and it sends you somewhere weird, not the nexus. Could have the Acid effect. (it turns you to a puddle, and using it's effect causes the screen to change colours. ...Not a good idea.)

It's not much traveling as it's a camp. Long story short, we build gigantic stuff out wood logs binded to each other and show it off to people. That's what I do at least. Then there's all sorts of stuff with the younger kids in the scouts coming etc, but I'm not in charge of any so I just cool off for a few days. (very long-story-short-ish)
