This is the 'trailer' for it. I must say I'm disappointed, it just looks forced somehow, as if they were trying too hard to make it more 'creepy'. You be the judge.

I think it's a good concept. They did seem to force it. I found it a while ago and couldn't figure out how to run it so I haven't played it yet.
It seems more like it should be an LCD dream emulator fan game. They chain saw was kind of stupid and I'm confused on the whole thing between dream and reality.

With Madotsuki's room you felt enclosed surrounded, with her shitty broken TV and ugly rug.

When you look at Urotsuki's room, it looks pretty nice, spacious, and well off with her matching curtains and rug. If anything, It looks like they're trying to move away from the hikimori idea.

There's actually been lots more added since that video (I think the newest version is .060 or so, whereas the video shows a much earlier state).

Of what I've seen, it looks alright. Plenty of genuine creepy, too. The only thing that I didn't like was the "horror room" in the trailer, though, or whichever one had the face that popped up. It was just a bit... silly.

I'm still looking forward to more of it; also, I heard word there'll be about 60 effects...

Considering the fact that a lot of Yume Nikki's effects were purely cosmetic, I can't really see this many being necessary. Plus, having too many different functions for all of these would kind of ruin the feel of the game, honestly.

That said, a lot of them are pretty cool. I sort of feel like checking off which ones I don't think should be in there, just to be a dick about it.

I dunno. From what I've seen, people are taking this too seriously. To me, it looks more "spoof of" than "sequel to." It's like complaining about the Touhou-styled takes on Super Mario or MegaMan, which are clearly not the originals and do not try to be.

...hmm. Now that I think about it, artists may draw Uboa with a big, muscular body or have Madotsuki go ax crazy with her knife, but to think of Yume Nikki itself, what is there to lend itself to caricature? The things that seem to be two big problems here: its unsettling atmosphere and its number of effects. When I saw that face pop up in the video, accompanied by the sound of a whinnying horse, I thought of the nightmare vision beyond Kyukkyu's door and laughed. It's so ridiculous in comparison that I can't think this is seriously trying to be the next YN. It's just a fun, silly little parody of a game these guys admire. Once it gets to a more final stage of completion, and especially if we see an English patch, I'm trying it.

Only problem is, whenever I seem to use effects, it crashes and exits out of the game. I can't seem to install RPG2000RTP either, it stops at 44% and gives me some error about a wav file. I can't seem to use Applocale either. :\

Haven't played much yet, but so far I like it; it's different from the original without being too different, at least in my opinion. (It still has that exploration thing going on, and the weirdness... I haven't found anything flat-out nightmare fuel yet though, unfortunately.) Unless Madotsuki and Urotsuki have a hivemind thing going on their minds obviously aren't going to be the same, so I can deal with 2kki being different in atmosphere.

Then again, it could change; guess I'll have to wait for the completed version for a "final" opinion.

But is it seriously going to have 60 effects?! That's way too many, man.

If the "one door" you're referring to is the rectangular prism, you can enter it...as long as you aren't getting error messages. (And same goes for interacting with Aoshiru no ko, that "spark" in the "Indian" world, and using your effects.)

I wish I knew what else to do to help you folks fix your error messages. Like I had said earlier, I was getting those, too. Though, I had installed both the Japanese and English run-time packages (and for RPG Maker 2000, not 2003), installed AppLocale, and switched my unicode to Japanese. I can't think of what else may fix those error messages.

I wasn't able to install the japanese RTPs. When I try to install them, it gives me an error message while installing and stops. When I try opening them with Applocale it gives me a blank error and doesn't open.
When I changed my unicode to Japanese, the first time it still had the same errors. The second time, the game just froze my whole computer and I had to restart. I tried using applocale in the game but it's still the same.
I don't know what else it could be.. I checked the game on RPG Maker and everything seems to be normal.
The errors happen on both version 0.067 and 0.068.

Just check the Yume 2kki thread for my uploads in /media/. You don't have to worry about the SafeMelt nonsense with my uploads.

Even though I tend to upload to /media/ shortly after each release, I sometimes am unable to do so right away. If you don't feel like waiting for me, and the developers continue to use SafeMelt in the future, what you do after downloading all of the related files is click on the bottom-most button of the executable, but NOT click on the button of the message window that pops up. Wait for a while until a different message window takes the place of the one that appeared earlier and click OK.

EDIT: Silly me. I've just realized that I haven't uploaded 0.069 yet. I'm not used to different versions being released so closely together, and I had confused 0.068 for 0.069. Well, I'm in the process of uploading.

Ah, I just got what's wrong with it! I checked RPG Maker, and seems like someone forgot to give Aoshiru's event an special contition for the chainsaw attacking him.
So it kinda makes conflict, since the game doesn't know which event to use -- the normal one, or the chainsaw one. It's kinda normal for him to make Urotsuki use the chainsaw even without her having it.
I hope I didn't sound too confusing. Dx
Edit: Hell yeah, that really was the problem, I was able to interact with him, finally. Thanks for helping me figure it out. xD

But I still can't figure out what's making me unable to use effects or go in the green cube world without getting an error message...

If you have RPG Maker 2003, here's what you do:

  1. Open the game on RPG Maker and find Aoshiru's event -- you can see the map on the screenshot.
  2. Open his event and go to the page 2
  3. Click on the first Switch Conditions (jhsjdhasdjka sorry my RPG Maker is in portuguese) and change it to switch number 0124
  4. Click Ok or Apply

This should fix him. Still trying to find out what's wrong with the effects and the block world...

the effects use a battle animation and sound while using them, the animations look for the japanese filename for the files by default so all you have to do is find out what animation is used and change the set of pictures it uses to the english equivalent (really it's not that hard) however cube world I am still working on trying to find a fix for seeing as I cannot find the file it is referencing for errors but when I do I will try to upload a fix. The medical boy or whatever event still seems to be unfinished albeit bugged. and some characters appear unable to be chainsawed albeit having a "chainsawed" sprite I.e. the purple things in graves and cardsuites world.

I remember having that problem when I first installed Yume 2kki thanks to /jp/, but it never happened again after I went to http://www.famitsu.com/freegame/rtp/2000_rtp.html , got 自己解凍形式 2000rtp.exe(サイズ:11.7MB) and installed it with Applocale set to Japanese on XP... I think. Ah yeah, make sure you have the Japanese files thing.

As for >>448... well, even if you say that, I still believe that's how it's supposed to work. I freaked out when I first tried talking to that NPC (after a update) and Urotsuki just chainsaw'd him to death, even when I didn't have the chainsaw equipped (or later when I tried doing that on a save without said chainsaw). It makes more sense this way... for example, she's annoyed at that guy and wants so much to kill him that a chainsaw just materialized on her hands. I don't know. It's not like you don't kill everything that stands on your path when you have the chainsaw effect on anyway.

As for the game (since this is my first post here... sorry for the misfire on /yn/), I think it's a pretty cool guy, eh feels awesome and doesn't afraid of anything. Since it's far from Yume Nikki-level completion, it's hard to compare both - but hell, that shouldn't be done anyway. They're both different games, even though 2kki was based on Nikki - saying it's a rip-off or whatever isn't right. If it feels good or not, that's a subjective matter, so there's no definitive answer, but I'm really loving it. I also find Urotsuki's design to be cuter than Madotsuki, but that's not really important.

Every single time I try to equip an effect, the game crashes. :(

I have installed the Japanese RPG Maker 2000 RTP. I don't know why but the place you can access via the blue cube in the Nexus makes my game crash, too.

Also I am surprised that people are raging at this game for not being like the original. It's a new game, therefore a new character, therefore a different person and feelings/dreams.

Besides, there are many things in this game that have creeped me out/surprised me, such as those eye things in the place I call "the Clubhouse" (where I found the Uboa guys), the notebook in the library with the MUTILATED GIRL COMING OUT OF FUCKING NOWHERE, and other stuff (the Mayan Rave Goddess was kind of startling).

Also, has anyone noticed that after the rave event, the background in the "goddess" world (with the colored tiles and happy music) changes?

This game is as good, if not better, than the original. It has yet to be finished, but when it will, it'll kick ass.

Of the effects that are readably accessible, you're missing the fairy and the boy effects. The fairy is accessed within the homework portal (but not within the first area itself). The boy is in that rainy, cube area, and in a special room of its own; to get this effect, you'll have to interact with something in particular repeatedly until you get the message that you've gained that particular effect.

Oh, and not to split hairs, but the one effect is a lantern, not a candle. I'm only making this distinction because there may be another effect in future games that is candle-based. (see >>38, left-most column, third row from the top).

In past demos, you were able to use a spacesuit effect; it still is active in version 0.072, but is not readably accessible. Some glasses had also been programmed in 0.070 and 0.071, I think, but were only accessible through the debug menu. Also, the change log for 0.072 say something about a rainbow effect being added, but isn't readably found in the game at this time.

The debug menu was something that was easily accessible in version 0.067. You could access it by going to your effects list. You were also able to go to a debug room by walking outside of Urotsuki's apartment while she was awake (and I don't mean onto her balcony, either). You were able to access these menus in newer versions of the demo by using a save from this version of the game on newer versions. Though, considering that a different sort of platform was developed for 0.072 (I guess I'm using the correct terminology), you are unable to use saves from 0.067 with this demo, meaning that you can't access the debug features that I had mentioned.

Considering that I'm not on my own computer at the moment, I haven't uploaded or looked at the new release. Considering that I've played all of these demos since 0.066 (with the exception of 0.069), I've seen the changes that have taken place and have found tiny, little things that other probably have yet to see. If I ever get the motivation, I'll make a list of odd things I've encountered.

And as for the boy effect, I get the feeling that you may be accessing the wrong door within the rainy, cube area. The door to the room that contains the boy effect is a black rectangle surrounded by nothing, not a black rectangle surrounded by a turquoise "wall." The room with the boy effect is incredibly small, and only has one object with which you can interact. You'll interact with this object many times before you get the boy effect; the object will change shape as you do this.

You are not hallucinating, the other predominantly red world was taken out around the same time the notebook world was added, it contained a few mothman like creatures, a fellow who ran in a straight line at an expedient pace, an area with a flower that you could burn or kill was present, and a traffic tunnel. The tunnel is still in the map files viewed via RPGmaker leading me to believe that it will be put back in at a later update. The "rainy cube" world is a world that has caused issues with many people in the past due to it having a nonexistent paralax background and crashing the game, some people have no issue others have to manually edit the game to remove the error.
Edit: after looking through the versions, the other red area was also where the fairy effect was originally located. The chipset used for it is used for the "Ear Rape" area that leads to the pokemon like area. I believe at some point the second red area will be reused and connected in some way to the notebook area. Also as a side-note, there's a giant lobster and an elephant head in the chipset, just thought that was interesting.

What I refer to as the "rainy cube" area is the area in the image I've posted. I have no clue what the area is supposed to represent, so it was hard for me to come up with a simple (and, apparently, not entirely effective) descriptive term for it. I see red and yellow versions of the turquoise structures' chipset.

And, yes, there used to be red area with mothman-like creatures (EDIT: >>793 describes this area). The notebook area is what has replaced this. I don't know if they intended to re-implement this area or not, but I've noticed that the sprites of creatures that roamed this area are still in the game's files. Interestingly enough, the red area used to be a highway area (There was a bit of a highway area in red area, but this highway was nowhere near as big as the one that originally existed.) I think the change log mentions something about re-implementing this in the future.

There also used to be a yellow "maze" (see >>412) which had this horrible buzzing-like noise in the background. It used to connect the EarthBound forest-like area and the small building in the swampy area. There was this building in the EarthBound forest that consisted of a large black-and-white room that was only escapable through waking up.

And for, I think, two versions of the demo, there was an area that was accessible through an octahedron in the hub. This area was mostly grey and had orange structures (reminded me of wedges of cheddar cheese) and pipes. You could find the spacesuit in this area. There was a small digital panel-like display on an small orange structure that would lead to space if you were wearing the spacesuit at the time. I've gotten the impression that this area--or something similar--will be re-implemented in the game.

Speaking of glitches, I found one in the town with the shadowy people; if you sit down on this bench and go right, you can move without getting up. You can't go past where the dude that disappears sits, though.

Interesting. They've definitely changed how you go about doing this. It used to be that after doing something or other in the game, the purple creature suddenly appeared in this area, and he'd quickly run away from you. If you equipped the lantern, he'd freeze into place, and he'd teleported you to that purple area if you went up to him.

I had a feeling that there was something up with that set up arms, but I wasn't certain what.

If you choose option C at the game system, you get this weird mini game where you explore some sort of abandoned hospital. Also freaky shadows that chase you.

You're right. That's the first time Option C has been a selectable option. I haven't figured out where to go once the shadows appear. While I wasn't scared by it, it indeed is the most unnerving part of the game.

The new door they added in the Nexus is boring, there's next to nothing in it and it's even harder to know where you're going than it usually it. At least it can take you to the highway area again, even if it doesn't have much.

I think the reason why Yume Nikki doesn't have issues with run on computers with English as the default language has to do with the fact that it was re-worked to work with the English RPG Maker 2000 rtp. A lot of people actually had problems with getting the first version of the translation working properly, and I'm guessing that the game might have had to operate with the Japanese rtp instead.

I don't think the second room in the picture leads anywhere yet.

Third room in the picture leads to the chainsaw if you walk through a certain shape's mouth.

Last room, the first picture you see when you teleport there will lead to a painter boy. I don't think that blocked door in the picture holds any significance though.

And, evidently, I'm not correctly (but maybe not entirely wrong?) about what I had said in >>1136. After poking around a bit in RPG Maker, I see that the names of variables and such are still in Japanese in the English version of Yume Nikki; though I'm guessing that there's been something that has been reworked. I really don't know why you don't have to worry about strange errors with Yume Nikki.

Oh, and I didn't see a map of the notebook world in the latest version of Yume 2kki, nor did I see a map of that huge, red world that had once existed. (Though, there's still a map of the red area that used to lead to the "Pokemon island" that has the fairy effect.) I guess they could always reinsert those maps in newer versions, but who knows. I sure liked both of those areas more than that stupid "drop world."

+FC迷宮の出口(?)を仮設しました。でも迷って行けない。
※FC迷宮の迷路を山川屋敷ではないオリジナルにしました。
 実はツクールでマップを見ると迷路の全体図が見れるという親切設計。
 ちなみに、文字イベント ナシにしていると出入り口が表示されません。
 (後々文字イベントを追加しようかと計画中)
※虹エフェクトを5回ほど寝ないと取れないように変更しました。

Oh, and 0.083b is out. Like always, I've posted the new demos in /media/.

EDIT: Okay. I have some gripes about 0.083 and 0.083b: 0.083 seems to have been built upon a version other than 0.082 considering that it doesn't have the expanded nexus, different computer screen, etc. On the other hand, 0.083b has these changes, but gives an error message whenever I try to use the chainsaw on the red splotch in the tunnel. I'm hoping that another demo will be released soon.

Well, I'm loving 2kki so far. In fact, I believe I'm liking it more than the original Yume Nikki - but that might be because I didn't care much about it when it came out, so when I finally picked it up, few people were discussing the game.

Yume 2kki is always being updated, so... I feel I can finally actively talk about it with people, discover new things by myself, and so on. And, for some reason, I like Urotsuki more than Madotsuki.

I couldn't get it to work at first either. I dunno if it'll fix your problem, but here's my solution:
Go to /media/
Go into the yume 2kki thread
Download the first one (the one that says 'with run-time packages).
Go into the folder and go into 'Japanese run-time package'.
(this is where my memory gets a bit hazy, so don't hesitate to mention if somethings wrong)
Click 2000rtp.
Do what it tells you.
There should be a new folder called RTPセットアップ above 2000rtp now.
Go into that and click rpg2000rtp, and it'll install.
This is the problem if you have the rpgmaker used to run yume nikki, since 2kki uses a different version.
I'm using vista, so that isn't the problem, even if the method I just gave is wrong.

Hello, I'm loving this game so far!
I have a question however

  1. In one of the screenshots here there is a guy standing on top of one of the space-world buildings. Can you get to him?
  2. How do you get to pokemon world? I'm sorry if I missed how while browsing.
  3. The critter whose back you jump into, thats not an anteater thats a tapir.

And for anyone who is having trouble installing the japanese runtime try this.
The folder that contains it is "2000RTPセットアッフ"
Get rid of the "セットアッフ" part and then try using applocale to install it. Thats what worked for me when it kept crashing.

  2. Wander around the washing machine world (I usually go on the northeast diagonal upon getting there), until you find the taxi. Take it, and walk east forever. You'll eventually get to a dead end - chainsaw the red thing on the wall and interact with it.

Using the glasses effect allows you to see them briefly. They don't do anything to you, it just scared the heck out of me to see them pop up.

Using it in the allyway makes a door appear. Spamming Glasses is going to be useful in the future, I bet.

Game C (not sure if it's a game, though), where you explore the...hospital? I always end up, getting dragged in a locker & killed. Anyone know what to do? Is this supposed to end like that? I saw two floating cubes or w.e. those were, like the ones that float in that big open grey area. (lol, names...) Anyone know why they are in that hospital at all?

About areas & effects:

  • last time I went to the bar, I could put coins on those Hindu statues. I put a lot of coins & waited a while, but nothing happened, except they were glowing. Anybody found something with that yet? I didn't try with the new version if I can still do that.
  • the place where you go from the first person maze. Anyone get pass that black lady yet? The one, that is blocking your way.
  • Where can I find the anteater, the fairy & the fox effect? I'm confused with the whole "Pkmn island" thing, since for me, that place is the one with the flowers & was surrounded by water...but I can't do anything there. I've been trying to move that thing from the stares for a looong time >: Also, there were a pair of eyes I used to chainsaw...now I can't. Is that still possible to do at all?

I have a ton of other stupid questions to ask, but I'll limit myself. I'm already too annoying xD

There is no "anteater" effect, and you can only get the fox effect from the debug room AFAIK. It doesn't do anything.

The fairy is on the PKMN island, past the black winged monster that jumps out at you. You can't get past the thing on the stairs.

You can get past the black lady by floating past with the fairy or the astronaut effects, or by chainsawing the boarded-up stairs. There's nothing over there, though.

The chainsaw effect is in the cemetery. Search for a throwing up card suit & enter it... I'll let you figure the rest alone, don't wanna ruin the fun.
For the fairy effect enter that red/blue door (I have no idea what that is! XD ) & find the taxi. Get on it & it'll take you to some highway. Walk until you get to a tunnel & chainsaw the red (blood?) splatter on the wall. You'll get to Pokemon island. From there find a place with a black monster. Don't try to pass, going in front of it, or it'll block your way!
I think a few posts back someone said how to find the effect...

How do I use effects? The only option I have under the escape menu is to quit the game...

Anyway, I don't recall if this has been mentioned before, but: in ver0.085c, in that world, a little up and to the left of the taxi, there is a trash can that takes you to the place in this picture. There are some ghosts there and some weird lizard creature but none of them do anything. There's also a bathroom with one of those weird japanese toilets that looks like a urinal in the floor. One of the doors leads to a courtyard with a locked door. There's no music here.

What I want to know is how the heck I get to the place in >>1016 in this version. Anyone know?
EDIT: I got it, after doing what he said and sitting down as the boy, but it only seems to happen at random for me. I can't tell if I'm supposed to wait a while or not.

Oh right, I'd like to share my thoughts about 2kki so far, since others have been doing it: It's not a bad game. It has a crapload of potential and a lot of surprises. The town area with the underground bar is flat out wonderful. :D
Sure, some parts are cheesy, and the game has a different feel from yume nikki, but that's okay to me - it's a different game, and it's a new experience. I think with a little touching up here and there, this could be a very worth successor to YN.

Plus, I know Minigame C is that kind of typical survival horror that we're trying to avoid with this genre of gaming but...
JESUS FUCKING CHRIST those shadows scared the shit out of me when I first encountered them. They did a good job on that part, I won't lie - can't wait for it to be finished, now.

You get to this place by going through the underwater city. If you chainsaw the back of this creature 2 or 3 times, it makes a hole into space, which you can jump through if you have the space suit. Unfortunately it doesn't lead anywhere... yet...

I couldn't get 85 working, some of these might be old news.
In 86 lego world changed, can't find the rainbow effect. It's glitchy [I suppose] and makes Urotsuki slide sort of, this doesn't go away unless you re-open the game.

Space suit world basically upped the contrast, more red, less grey. There's different music in it, but in 'other' space suit world it's the same.

Sliding door in flower world still doesn't work.

Save error still present.

Can't get to debug room.

I really don't see why some people are neglecting this, just because it's the fan-proclaimed "Yume Nikki Sequel."

As long as the word is spread out that it's a spin-off sequel, and isn't official, there shouldn't be any problems. Besides, it's an Indie game, and it's on the internet, so what can we do?

The more effects, the better, I think. The more places, the better, as well. I used the flute all the time in YN and it has no known use to me whatsoever, it was just fun to play around with. I'll definately be wearing the astronaut outfit, and the chainsaw looks awesome.

My curiosity beat me, and I ended up checking the stuff in the game with RPGMaker. It was pretty cool and helped me find the Bike effect (which was pretty obvious oh wow I'm dumb), but I feel like I have cheated. Boo.

Also asdafdsad, this even was pretty... well... the file name says it all.

By the way, that Verxxxxxx is making me curious too.

So it looks like Verxxxxxx is basically 0.086e with a save file that has some kind of Debug mode activated, and some additional things in Urotsuki's room. The left thing on the ground takes you to Sigma, the right thing takes you to that painting in the museum, and the buttons make the days pass (upper one adds one more days, middle one adds ten and bottom one adds one hundred).

An interesting thing is the fact that if you go past one year, the game gives you this message saying something about an ending, and you get a simple game over screen.

That patch thing is weird. It appears to be some kind of version 0.086eaa, which you need to extract to your 0.086e folder, overwriting everything... I guess. It came with two text files outside of the Yume2kki folder, so let's copypaste.

お咎め覚悟の上で、こんなイベントどうかなぁ~ってのを勝手に作ってUPしてしまった次第です。
全体的にマップがチョッピリながら改造されているので、当てちゃうと正規アップデートの際にもっぺんDLし直しになります。超、気をつけてください。

なんでスレの皆様方と議論も交わさずこんな事しちゃったかというと、
今回扱った「文字をつかうイベント」という題材に少々難があるからでありまして。

以前に投稿した素材を使っていただけた際に涙が出るほど感動してしまいまして、いわば味をしめちゃったわけなのですね。タチの悪いことに。
しかし折しもその頃、図書館のイベントに関してかなり白熱した論議が交わされ、文字素材の投稿を自粛せざるを得なかったわけです。

やがて図書館のスペースもさまざまな手法(発想の数々に脱帽するばかりです)によって埋まってしまい、
もはや自分が参加できるのはチラシの裏くらいなもんなのかなぁと嘆いていたのですが、
同時に「しかしこんな自分でも何か、何かできないだろうか」というのもありまして、勝手に作ってみたというわけです。ごめんなさい。

じゃあ何で正式な参加表明しないんだ!と仰るかもしれません。そのとおりです。
しかしそれにはいくつかの理由がありまして、

1.自分がチキンだから。
2.文字を使ったイベントを作ることを表明すれば、「そいつは通せないぜボウズ」とおっしゃる方が高確率で現れることが予測されるため。
3.そうなった場合に参加表明を取り消すことにならざるを得ず、結果的に皆々様方にお手数をおかけし、足を引っ張ることになりかねないため。
4.らしさ、らしくなさにこだわらず、まずは自由に「2っき」の世界を広げてみたいと考えたため。

1については、私自身の不始末です。ここに関してはもう、申し訳ありませんとしかいいようがないです。
大事なのは2からでありまして、おそらく私が「文字を使ったイベントを織り交ぜてみませんか」などとデカイ声でスレに書こうものなら、
「そんなのはゆめにっきっぽくない」「いいから図書館から出てくんな」「よそでやれ」etc…
風当たりが強くなり製作に至る前に折れることは目に見えていたためです。
そんなのはお前の被害妄想だと言われればごもっともではありますが、
仮に私がこれを公開してから製作に手をつけた場合、やはりなんらの形でSTOPがかかる可能性は否めません。

そしてそうなった場合に、他のツクラー様方の製作リレーに支障をきたしてしまうことを懸念したため、
あえて本流とは外れたところで公開しようと思ったわけであります。
こうすることで多少の混乱は起きるかもしれませんがしかし、リレーを私で止めてしまうなどという身も蓋もないことにはならず、
やはり反論が多いようであれば、好きなときにすぐに消すということが可能です。

そしてもうひとつ、そもそも文字を使ったイベントが実際に本編に出現したverなんてありませんでしたので、
文字を頑として否定する方々にいっぺん「文字があったら世界観がどのように崩れるのか」を、
僭越ながら試験的に見ていただきたかった。いわば強行手段の一つです。

傲慢ではありますが、自分としてはこのゲームをただ「ゆめにっき」の法則をなぞっただけのゲームにしてほしくなかったので…。
ですが、このような議論すればするほど、試験的な実装にすら遠のいていく風潮の現状においては、
黙って勝手に実装して非公式のパッチとして公開するより他ありませんでした。

そうであってもやはり、どうしても文字に難色を示す人は多いと思います。分からないわけではありません。
そこでこの非公式パッチにおいても、出現する方法はかなり難しくしてみました。
出現する頻度も低いし運も絡みます。そのうえあるエフェクトが必要になります。

自分としては「これだけ難しくしたならむしろ見逃してくれてもいいんじゃないか」的な、いかにも安易な考えではありますが、
それでも許せん!とっとと消えろボケ!と仰る方が多いのであれば潔く身を引き、影より応援に徹する身に甘んじる所存です。

だらだらと長い文章を読んでいただいてありがとうございました、
今回のパッチについては、自分からは本スレおよびWIKIでは宣伝しません。当然です。
ただ、DLした人には「こんな意見もある」的なことを知っていただければ、それは望外の幸せです。

追記・このパッチにて追加された素材に関しては、いかようにしていただいてもけっこうです。
   そもそも素材といえるのかも怪しいシロモノですし、中身なんて薄っぺらのポンでありますゆえ。
   自分としてはLSDや佐々木爆発のHARDに出てくる文をイメージしたのですが…ああいうのを書ける人はすごいですね。

   そもそも「ならテメェで図書館拡充しろ」と仰るかもしれません、しかしたったこれだけのモノにわざわざ図書館の本使うまでもないと考えたのと、
   勝手に図書館を拡大しようものなら、システムに異常をきたしてしまう可能性が極めて高いと判断したからです。
   (2っきのシステムは非常に繊細かつ緻密なものとなっています、ええ。)

In the hospital, about three or four hallways over, there is a door that leads to a wing of the hospital with a moving pattern in the background. In that area, go to the bottom of the map and look for the abnormality. In there, it shouldn't take you too long to find the chainsaw.

Finally got this to work (latest partially-translated release, apparently).

Was wandering aimlessly (who says this is easier to navigate then Yume Nikke?! Yume Nikki didn't have a million convoluted crosspaths from each world!), found some sort of dude between two poles looking like he was getting shocked, tried to interact with him, game froze. Any thoughts?

Also, how does one use effects (ala "1" key in YN), or do effects not do such things in this game?

Honestly, I'd be too lazy to go back and look for the effect locations in this post myself, so I'll just write them here again.

Boy effect is in the blue cube outline thing world. From the entrance, go west until you see a bunch of patterns leading north and follow them to a door. Enter it and there'll be some kind of formless blob. Click it enough and it'll boy shaped and you'll get the effect.

Pixie is in the PKMN world, which you get to from the highway, which you get to from the blue blob world. Easiest way is to go nirth from the entrance of blob world until you see a tentacle, and then go east/west until you reach a cab. The cab gets you to the highway, and from there, keep going east until you get to a tunnel. There should be a face on the tunnel, which you can chainsaw to change. Interacting with it afterwords leads you to the a short path, and the PKMN world is the south exit. Once there, go to the south part of the park area and you'll see a black thing guarding a path. You'll have to step on the flowers getting as close as possible to it without going directly below it, and then cross, otherwise it'll block your path. After that you'll be in a square area with a pixie flying around at high speeds. Catch it and you get the effect.

Also, Rainbow effect nulls weather and creates a stationary rainbow in its place. It works both in the sewers top and the place with the giant pipes.

If you read through the thread, there's help. That error happens when you don't have RPG Maker 2000 installed (Yume Nikki comes with a seemingly portable version of RPG Maker 2003, Yume 2kki requires 2000 and doesn't come with it). There's a text file (at least in the most recent partially-translated version of Yume 2kki) that has a download link for RPG Maker 2000; you'll have to use AppLocale (available from Microsoft's website, or the first link in a Google Search) to run the installer in Japanese to get it to install right. Alternatively, you can set your system-wide language to Japanese temporarily. AppLocale claims it only works with XP or something, but it lies (works fine on my 64-bit Win 7).

After you've installed RPG Maker 2000, then you may or may not have to ALSO run Yume 2kki in Japanese via AppLocale. From my experience, it runs without it, but crashes at strange points and doesn't display some text correctly. shrug

A picture is worth a thousand words.

I had no problems installing AppLocale. Searched for it, found it on Microsoft's website, was sad that it claimed only XP (and 2003 I think), decided to try anyway, downloaded it, ran installer, and it worked just fine.

To run a program via AppLocale, you've got to open AppLocale first and tell it to launch the program that you're trying to launch. It'll come up with a wizard (see attached picture), browse to your app (Yume 2kki in this case), select it, click next, select Japanese in the language box (日本語), etc etc.

To make it easier, on the last step it allows you to create a shortcut that will launch the program with those setting every time you want. It sticks this shortcut in its folder in the start menu. Feel free to move it wherever you want.

A few things

  1. Anyone know how to get to these various places?
  2. I have the Bike, Boy Chainsaw, Lantern, Fairy, Space suit, Glasses, Rainbow, Telephone, Maiko and Twin tail effects am I missing anything?
  3. People keep talking about game C being set in a hospital with shadows that follow you and stuff. Sounds neat, but when I play it all it is is three rooms. In one room I can change tiles around which cause some paintings to come together, in another there is a door that won't open and a guy asking if I want to quit and in the third there's just a table, a fireplace, and a door that also won't open. So... what's that all about?

  • First pic: go to that theater-like something (I think), and go to the reddish room with the two human-like things. That room works just like the Lost Woods, and if I'm not mistaken the correct order has something to do with the Konami code - just keep trying the rooms and you'll know you went to the right room if the music gets a bit louder. Press the red button on the wall if you want to go back. I don't remember what's the exact sequence, but I think it's somewhere in this thread...
  • Yellow brick road: I don't think it's possible to get there on the current version.
  • Both blocky things: that's the old design of the block-like world... I don't think you can visit these versions of the map anymore. Enjoy your slippery floor and cheese for now.
  • Sunset-like thing: that was the old version of the Minigame C, with the hospital, ghosts and creepy stuff. I don't know what happened to it ever since it changed to the current game.

2. I think that's it, for the obtainable effects at least. There are also a Wolf and a Bomb effects, but I didn't find them not even when I checked the game's files in RPGMaker.

3. The hospital thing was Minigame C in an old version - sadly, I don't remember when it changed to the current one, but I think you can try checking the changelog.

  • Wolf: noody knows, I believe. It may be implemented, but the NPC you have to interact with hasn't been placed anywhere, apparently (and it's a pity - because it's a really cute wolf Urotsuki roaring or stuff. Aww. You can see her in the debug room, with one of the alternative versions released recently)
  • Geisha: well, it's a Maiko, actually - even though I don't know what's the meaning of that word. She's in the weird graveyard with dancing things world, a bit past the entrance to the hospital.

The bike is REALLY obvious (trust me, I did a really painful facepalm once I found it out in RPGMaker), so I don't think a hint is really needed... well, it's on one of the starting worlds. The rainbow is on the town world, and the twin tail is on the red thing world.

Found some new things

From the white pillars/Forest/Cloud place head to the chocolate bar
From there Head to the Glove holding a Sphere with a heart on it
From there go up to another entrance like the one you just came out of
Here there is either new stuff or stuff I've somehow never seen, I'm pretty sure the previous entrance led somewhere else before, anyway just head up and enter the building, then go left/downish til you get to a big room and find a ripped scroll or whatever that is, then head right for a long time til you hit a dead end flower tree land.

Also in the highway those things that hang around that black pillar are now different looking, you can enter black pillar, nothing seems to be in that place as far as I could find

Pokemon land is now a bit different, there are now glitched swings that if you get on and hold up you'll just glide upward in a sitting position. Talking to the pink thing on other swing with the fairy effect equipped will send to to his counter part in the place with all the huts.

Edit: looked around the Japanese place some more, you can find the eye bomb effect there. It teleports you to the nexus

bomb's in the upgraded FC (megaten?) maze. When it was in the Tatami maze, you could keep picking it up, and doing so fast enough would make you use its effect even if you didn't have it equipped.

if you enter the highway through the ppkemon world rather than the taxi, if you go to where the taxi normally is, you'll see the highway is broken. You can keep going though, but you'll end up in a space of pure black.

this game is better than the original. the original didnt really feel like it was taking place in a dream, it all felt like a shattered acid trip involving a floating head girl thing and an aztec rave monkey. This one seems more rooted in reality, but has more than its fair share of nightmare fuel. I don't know about Pokemon land, but for the 3D maze, if you go through one of the doors in the Blockland area while you're still big, you'll come across it.

How to get to pokemon land:
From the Nexus, enter the water cooler thing,
From there head up til you reach a tail coming out the ground, turn left here till you reach a taxi, enter it.
Head right until you enter a tunnel with a face on the wall, use the chainsaw on it and enter.
You are now in pokemon land, named so because it uses the same graphics from the DS pokemon games I believe.

If you don't have the chainsaw to do this:
From the Nexus go to the grave
From here head diagonally up/right til you reach a vomiting heart, enter it and head to the left, enter the door
Keep going left til you get to the third last door, enter it and head left
When you exit the building head down til you hit the long building and head to the left, touch the Red dot
From in here enter the broken puking thing to your left then go back to it's mouth and enter it two more times
You will be transported to a dark room with the chainsaw in front of you

Incidentally, I got the eyebomb effect in version 0.087, it seems it was moved from the tatami mat maze to the horrible faux 3D maze that's a pain to navigate in version 0.087b. Found it again though.

I have torn apart the file in RPG maker 2003. and i can confirm the following
-the old red world with the faces for tiles is completely gone from the files as far as i know
-there's a new sprite sheet for whats apparently a penguin effect which apparently lets you slide around.
-the purple things on the highway have nothing behind them at the moment (earlier versions had a rest stop looking thing) and its probably just a temporary barricade for a future map.
-the graffiti alley in the city area with the bus stop is NOT a dead end. try walking into a certain part of the wall and youll end up inside the blue mans shop.

 物は試しということで、過去データを使うとおとこのこエフェクトがボッシュートされてしまいます。
※ワイヤー世界を見た目だけちょっといじりました。
※ワイヤー世界の住人をチェンソーでぬっころせるようにしました。
※おとこのこ取得方法を変更しました。青物体を黄色く光らせたあと外へ出てみてください。
+蛇の口から行ける場所を変更、意味がなさそうで本当に意味のない「米くん(仮)」に会えるようになりました。
+おとこのこ取得後にお化けにつかまれば、7割が本当、3割が嘘の指差しさん(仮)の確率ゲームっぽいものができます。
 失敗すると入り口に戻されます。5回連続で成功すればなんか赤いところへ行けます。そして意味はありません(現段階)。
 あと、低確率で指差しさんが別の何かになります。調べれば違うマップへ行けますが、その先にはまだ何もありません。
 (dedp氏すいませんかなりレアな場所となってしまいました)

Some new stuff I found

Misc

-If you go down stairs with an effect equipped, when you get to the end of the stairs your effect will now get re-equipped
-Knock on the door in the basement in your house to hear the first part of the super mario bros theme
-The highway no longer has music =/
-The orange/red building area where you get the spacesuit has changed a little, but nothing really significant
-In the place with all the trees from the game earthbound (where you find the painting that sends you to the art gallery) it can apparently sometimes rain, I donno if this is new or not, but it's never happened to me before. I tried using the rainbow effect, but nothing happened.

Museumy place

-the museum (ie the place you can access via the postbox in the Japanese town) now has a new exhibit.
-the glasses effect is now in a new room in the museum on display as well
-there are light switches which darken the museum now
-Look at the new statue in the museum while wearing glasses and the figure will be wearing sun shades
-That painting you could use your glasses in no longer in the random stuff museum, but now in the art gallery

Cube/Pyrimid World

-The cube world is now pyramid world
-In pyramid world the thing that you got the boy effect from now changes colour more
-The boy effect is now gotten from an outline of the boy wandering around pyramid world
-That one dead end area in pyramid world is now full of flashy circles, also if you get caught by the thing roaming around in that area, you'll end up in a new area. Follow where the yellow guy is pointing to find another new area although it's a dead end. Follow where it's going and go the opposite way every other time to end up in yet another new area which also seems to be a dead end.

Block World

-Getting hit by the woman in the palace(?) area will now take you to a slightly larger room, still a dead end though
-In that sky palace place there's a weird blue apple glasses thing there now

I checked Google's cached copy of the site where the downloads are still available. Block World

-There is now a new door in a hallway only accessible when you are small, that leads to a sort of maze thing, doesn't lead anywhere or really have anything in it though
-I said this last time but if you get caught by one of the women on the roof you'll go to an area that's bigger then the other dead end areas. Well apparently it's not a dead end if you use the fairy effect on the square in the wall of the rightmost room, it'll take you to the art gallery.

Pryamid World
-You can enter the dragon/Snake/Worm/squiggly thing to see some guy eating a brown rod, take that as you will. Enter the top of his mouth and he'll turn blue and stuff

there's a random chance of the bus stop in the space suit's world being replaced by a completely different area, which has a grate. Go through the grate to go to the giant head.

Special effect abilities I found (sorry if they're common knowledge):

-the wolf effect can move certain NPCs either towards you or away from you. Especially useful in the block world's sky area.
-try using the telephone effect at the giant TV. Then try using the bike effect.
-on the path to the bar, you can use the lantern effect on the statues and they'll glow for a bit
-if you talk to the blue guy in japantown while using the maiko/geisha effect, you'll both do a bow
-if you drink something, you can use the boy effect to use the urinals in the bathroom
-in the chocolate world, offensive effects make the hourglasses and the conical statue thing stop moving

Some other things:
-Pyramid/cube World is called Wire world in the changelog, and it makes more sense that way, I think.
-the red eye painting in the art gallery leads to a new area that you can't get out of without killing the black woman or using the bomb. The Woman there is special in that if you touch her, she'll follow you. there's also a tic-tac-toe grid and the konami code, but they don't really do anything.
-if you activate the library, the second to last row of bookshelves has a book that's actually a map to the Block World's scrolling maze. I actually found it after making my own map. It doesn't show which paths are blocked though. On that note, I've made a bunch of maps for a few of the more confusing areas. They're not too useful, but if anyone wants them, I can scan and upload them.

The only thing I can contribute to this thread now is this: remember that mural-like thing on the Pokémon-like world (the first thing you see when you get there, actually). After you do something, there'll be something that looks like a face on the right side of it (I think just going down to the next screen and then back is enough). Well, chainsaw its mouth over and over again, until something different appears. Follow that something and enjoy your show.

to make the yume 2kki run, i have instaled the english run-time package because i couldn't install the japanese one. (It always stop at 44% because it says that a file is invalid.)

So, i tried to make the yume 2kki works with english run-time package, and it does. But it is still showing me error messages, (as example, the hospital event)

Also, i can't use efecs properly, and i can't go to some worlds, as the cube world.

-in that one area that links to tatami mat place/chocolateland/earthboundtrees/shiva area there is yet another place it now links to

-to get the new effect, check the giant flower, hit the girl with the chainsaw and lead her away so you can get to the stone, check the stone to go to the area with the new effect
-in that same area if you go to the right as soon as you enter you can travel on the background.

The thing at the opening of the game that's like "alright so you haven't played this before, so here's a little rundown. -japanese explanation of how the game is wip-" has new music and you can skip it. Woop.
In tatami, near where the bomb used to be found, there's a darker version of the white radish-spirit like ghosts. There's only one and he doesn't do anything. What a loner.
If you kill the girl in the book room where you get the phone effect, and you look on her bookshelf, you'll see this. Chilling.

 迷宮の形を変更、代わりにMAP表示の表示範囲を広くしました
×チョコレートの通路に空中歩行ができる場所が残っていたので修正しました

Fox has been moved. Can't find it anymore. The music player and background chooser for the PC have been vastly upgraded, and now has things locked until you fulfill certain conditions. There's also a new effect in the process of being implemented, but I doubt it's findable outside the debug room. The prince and princess cutouts are now usable, but they don't do much. they look off center, too.

Also, old but anyone else notice the second game's music is the title theme of 7 days a stranger?

There is a sprite for the new NPC called Ookami Shonen so I guess he is the one who gives you the Wolf effect. I don't know about his whereabouts though.

Actually it's a standard melody that comes with RM2K RTP. But I'm happy I'm not the only one here who played Chzo Mythos.

How to get to pokemon land:
From the Nexus, enter the water cooler thing,
From there head down til you reach a tail coming out the ground, turn left here till you reach a taxi, enter it.
Head right until you enter a tunnel with a face on the wall, use the chainsaw on it and enter.
You are now in pokemon land

If you don't have the chainsaw to do this:
From the Nexus go to the grave
From here head diagonally up/right til you reach a vomiting heart, enter it and head to the left, enter the door
Keep going left til you get to the third last door, enter it and head left
When you exit the building head down til you hit the long building and head to the left, touch the Red dot
From in here enter the broken puking thing to your left then go back to it's mouth and enter it two more times
You will be transported to a dark room with the chainsaw in front of you

Well I read through half this topic and tried everything that I found to try and get this game to work properly for me.
What I've done:
Install applocale.
Have both english and japanese rtp files for both 2000 and 2003, the japanese having been executed with applocale. I'm not even sure they're installing! (Please refer to image)

That window comes up and I've tried both buttons, one takes me back a screen the other makes the installer shut down suddenly.

I've alsoe changed my unicode options and have a nihongonese tool bar set up, which was a requirement for my basic Jap class.

I've also installed that microsoft universal whatever.

What my problem is:
When I play the game, I only have two options on my menu. One is blank and doesn't do anything, the other looks like it is half katakana and half computer gibberish. It takes me to the close y/n menu. That is all. So basically I can't use my effects, nor can I wake up apparently!

If anyone has figured out how to fix this plague, please refer to post, or explain it to me.

download all the parts into the same folder, then just right click and choose "extract here" on part 1, the rest will extract automatically. You need winrar to do this if you don't have it.

Oh, so they relocated the wolf! That's good, since getting it through the closet in the fake room is kind of stupid. Plus you get the Penguin there now, so 2 effects, ANIMAL effects in 1 room? Blasphemy!
Also, I failed to understand how to get to the maze.

Did you alter the RPG Maker project in any way?
If it works on your OS, you could try to open the game on RPG Maker and playtest it. Sometimes it works, sometimes it's the opposite.
I remember I had the exact same problem, but eh, no idea how I fixed it.

I haven't even touched the game with rpg maker, not even sure it still is installed on my computer after I did a system recover last month. I'll look into that and see if I can't manually fix the problem. But that shouldn't be it, something must be wrong otherwise other people would be getting the problem all the time too, instead of just some people and not others...

In the latest version, one of the doors in the dream house is openable. Look for the one that gives a reply when you knock on it, and then use the twin-tails effect to get in. There's not much in it though. Use the chainsaw on the NPC in the room for interesting effects.

Also, the maze-ish thing in the lineart world now does not have a figure pointing towards either door. If you use the glasses effect however, the figure will appear again and always point in the correct direction. The flashing outline still appears randomly even without the glasses effect, and takes you to a different version of the recursive creature. There's nothing to do there still, but it's more interesting. I don't know how to get to the place it used to warp you to though.

What is the green block maze anyways? Is it the first person view one in the block world?

The only things in that maze are the two entrances (middle being the one in the red block and lower left being the one from the darker tower in the palace area, which is glitched), the green cylinders, which you can only move with the boy effect, and the room with the cross, which you can only get to by touching a black witch. The room with the cross leads to a hole in a wall which you can get through with the fairy effect, which just leads to the painter's painting. As far as I know, there's nothing like a secret path following the dance somehow to get to a secret area.

The maze-ish thing was the T shaped area where the exit was always randomized. As I said, the special warp takes you to a version of the recursive creature, that place with the warps to the chocolate world, the goddess world, the bug world, and the forest with the painter and kid. It has a different face, and is filled with blocks and those weird blue guys in the original, but there's nothing special there. The only thing to do is to get to the rightmost tentacle, which just warps you back to the door to the second area of the lineart world, like everything else. Following the correct path as indicated by the figure just makes you go to the short red path, which hasn't been changed.

Actually, I don't see anything about a maze in the translation of the changelog. It might have been an error due to the line breaks in the middle of the sentences. the correct changelog would then be:

似非現実部屋~うろつき邸内の一室にhal部屋を追加しました。あるエフェクト装備で入室できます。


線画世界微変更


分かれ道イベントの仕組みを変更。指差しさんを通常時見えない代わりにメガネ使用で嘘をつかず案内してくれるようにしました。嘘はいけないよね。


分かれ道イベント大当たり指差しさんの確率を高く設定してみました。…でもテストプレイ時なかなか現れず…一応現れるときもあったので大丈夫とは思いますが。なかなか現れなかったら赤い通路の逆U字の物体をやめてやめて言わせ続けてもいいです。こっちのほうが確率は低いんですけどね…連打できる分早いのではと思います。


大当たり指差しさんから行ける場所変更。あるツナギ部屋に似てますが、使用しているのはHAL領域内のものです。


初代ろだより赤い髪の男の子(名称なんでしょう?)のキャラチップ素材を他2体付きでそのまま取り込みました。緑っぽい人がスカラーさんってのは知ってるんだなあ、自分ではどこに置こうか全然考え付かないので、使いたい人はどうぞご使用ください。


よく音源が無くなるということで、各音源ファイル内の総数と次の数字が合わない場合はチェックしてください。現時点:music87個 sound85個

  1. Open Applocale
  2. Choose Yume2kki's RPG_RT.exe
  3. Choose the last option (Japanese)
  4. Choose to create a shortcut to make things easier
  5. It should work properly now.

Ugh, that thing. I translated it a few updates ago.

The title says something like RED Room's correct Path, the symbols say:
ueue - ue = up, so upx2
shitashita - shita = down, so down x2
hidarimigi - hidari = left, migi = right, so left, then right
hidarimigi - same as above, so left, then right again
otokoonna - otoko = man, onna = woman, so go to the man then the woman

and the stuff at the bottom says Mysterious Magazine and August Issue's Appendix

Obviously this is talking about the Kon●mi Room (as it's called in the sound test)

As far as I know, you can't get across the river. You can also figure the code to get to the tribal area by trial and error, cause as soon as you go through a correct door, the music gets louder. I figured it out this way myself, so that's how I knew what the code referred to. There's also the method of talking to the pink blob on the swing set in the PKMN park while using the fairy effect to get to the tribal area, and it acts like the Konami room was solved if you do so.

Some stuff about the tribal area: The creatures there seem to have the highest drop rate of coins, so if you want to farm some for the bar or whatever, that's the place to do it. Also, although I don't think you can cross the river, you can interact with the things on the other side. Howling makes them run from you, while using the lantern attracts them.

the bomb is in the first-person maze in the lego world

the wolf is a pretty long walk, first you go to the rainbow-colored world and walk straight down to enter a new blue area. Go to the top left corner of the map and warp to a new map. There's a radish or something at the top of the screen, go get it. Now you're in a world with a bunch of signs, look for one that is differently colored and it will take you to a place with the wolf.

+サウンドルームに私の改変した曲があったので、つい遠景を作っちゃいました。
+コモンイベント[0004:夢→現実(ベット落ち]を追加。ベットから落ちるタイプのお目覚め。
+ブロック世界に奇妙なイベント追加。発生条件も場所も奇妙な事に。
 5回以上小さくなってノーメイクで黒い女性の顔にいる黒い女性です。おとこのこ取得後推奨。
+うろつき邸に部屋を追加。地下室の南側にある扉からどうぞ。
+エフェクト「とうめい」追加しました。未設置なので、設置したい方はご自由にどうぞ。
 ちなみに、透明になっている間はスイッチ[0178:効 透明人間]がONになります。
#"ある物"を作ろうと頑張って、2回ほど失敗したので後回し。
 次の人が休日ゆっくりと走れるように、あと色々な構成を考え直したいので走り終わります。次の人ガンバ!

By the way, looks like the deep ocean is my favorite map now. There are so many things there, and it's so damn huge... and there's even this little Urotsuki face with a little Urotsuki inside it. It's a pity I can't interact with her though, as these rocks seem immovable. And that sucks, because there are some stairs at the bottom of this map that are blocked by a rock. What.
