This is the 'trailer' for it. I must say I'm disappointed, it just looks forced somehow, as if they were trying too hard to make it more 'creepy'. You be the judge.
Also, new character on the left.

Line art world? Maze? Where are these? I can't remember.

By the way, looks like the deep ocean is my favorite map now. There are so many things there, and it's so damn huge... and there's even this little Urotsuki face with a little Urotsuki inside it. It's a pity I can't interact with her though, as these rocks seem immovable. And that sucks, because there are some stairs at the bottom of this map that are blocked by a rock. What.

If you didn't know already, I'm making a fangame, "Life is a Highway".

The main character's name is Alles. He is a young man with a mysterious past. He wakes up in a strange dreamland with amnesia and must explore his new world, searching for a way out and things to repair his shattered memory. During his journey he will encounter others like him, but who have forsaken their past lives to revel in the worlds they make; their sanctuaries of the mind. Some are hostile, others become allies, but only one exists with the power to send him home; the one who knows Alles' past, and the one who will decide his future.

Alright, well, the demo is done. The link is here: http://www.mediafire.com/Sanctucrow

Excuse the Ridiculous size of this version. This game is HUEG, even at this stage of development. Also, the RPGM XP file compressor malfunctioned so I had to put it into a .zip file. Next version will probably be in a self-extracting archive or something like it, to make it easier on you guys.

Also, this thread is the official thread for the game. So, if you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions, please post them here. Compliments wouldn't hurt either...

I'll skip the download as it's a pretty large size. I'd request that you didn't save your screenshots of a PIXELIZED game in .png format, too.

Good luck, anyway.

It seems I can walk on nothing

Anyway, the game is quite nice. It's way too heavy, though. Slow internets like mine will take a lot of time to download it.
It also bothers me that the main character is an edit of the RPG Maker RTP, but it's not much of a big deal
It sure gives the Yume Nikki idea of "I don't know where I'm going or what I'm looking for", except without NPCs. It has a... lonely feel.

Anyway, about the green maze where you start, you should make it a bit less confusing and/or smaller. Since it's kind of a nexus, some people might never get to some areas because the maze is laaarge.

I'm working on a game right now not connected in any way to the yumeverse. It's about dreams though, and playing YN certainly did inspire me to get off my ass and make it.

Unlike Yume NIkki, there is plot and dialogue throughout the game, as well as (and in much the same vein as YN) a huge amount of exploration and puzzle solving.

I'll try to get the demo up within the next few weeks or so, but I'd like to ask you guys what to do so that my game doesn't piss you off.
You know, the YN fangame's equivalent of mary sues, etc.
Also, if there's anything you'd like to see within the game, feel free to let me know. :)

-Plot-
It's not easy, jumping from three dimensions to ten. Perhaps that's why so few beings manage it. Usually, the coiled up power of all that infinity burns a person out. But in a very, very small number of cases, a person can become omniscient, omnipresent and omnipotent. No human has ever managed it. In fact, only two entities in the entire history(s?) of the multiverse ever have.

Are you experienced at game design and development? If not, I would recommend you stick with RPG Maker. It may not have as much power, but it's more important to give yourself a chance at finishing your project. Trust me when I say that's a lot more difficult than it sounds, no matter how convinced you are that you can stick with it long enough.

No offense meant, of course. I've never finished a game myself by any means, and I've had this hobby for years.

>> No.2620   [Delete]   [Edit]

OP here. Forgot my tripcode...

Anyway, I've been busting on this shit for months now. Still making it in RPG maker. Still using pixel art. I'll post some screens this tomorrow.

>> No.2663   [Delete]   [Edit]

I advise to first make the project in RPG Maker, then maybe try do a remake of it in the Unreal Engine. I do believe the Unreal Engine is nothing short of Difficult to work with, at least to unexpirienced people.
Also, tomorrow was 3 days ago, still no pics.

That says Yume 2kki... I needed .flow.

>>2529

Japanese runtime packages, huh... where would I get that from?

And one last question. If I set applocale to Japanese, wouldn't it mess up the font in Yume Nikki english version?

>> No.2546   [Delete]   [Edit]

>>2545
.flow is still uploaded there.

And you can google 2000_RTP(I think?) or find a link if you lurk in Uploads.

>> No.2547   [Delete]   [Edit]

>>2545
That's the same uploader for 2kki, .flow and Nisshi.
The japanese RTP has been posted at least twice in the 2kki thread, and there's a 2kki download in /media/ that has both english and japanese RTP. Also you have no idea of how many different english RTPs are around >_>

Finally, no, it won't mess up anything. Applocale changes the locale of only the programs you choose, and YN is originally japanese too. I have the habit of opening RPGMaker in japanese locale so I can load the fangames' projects, and it's never messed up YN for me; it was actually nice, because the names of the maps in the RPGMaker project were readable and not a bunch of messed up characters. xD

Oh, also, if ANYTHING is zipped or rar'd, from the RTP to the game, open your WinRAR with applocale, as it will impede stuff from being extracted with the wrong name (or not extracted at all, like it does sometimes). Install the RTP with applocale too, because it normally stops at 44% if it's not run with japanese locale.

Here, I think this is 2000's RTP. I believe it's the one you need for .flow.
Else, there's the 2003 one: http://tkool.jp/rtp/2003rtp.exe

Same. I would like to know to. I attempted the Action Battle System and I can only attack with the select button. How do I make it so I have to press a specific button like "1,3 or 9".

those two are for 2003:

>>2515

Following these instructions, if you want your character to attack when pressing 1, 3 and 9, you make 3 different conditions:
If variable (keypress) is 11 then (attack event)
^ This is keyboard key 1

If variable keypess is 13 then (attack event)
^ This is key 3

If variable keypess is 19 then (attack event)
^ Key 9

Thinking about working on a game inspired by Yume Nikki. I'm not sure if it'll entirely be based on dreams, but I want it to be surreal as Silent Hill and Yume Nikki.

It'll be about a male character whose currently mourning over the loss of a loved one. You venture between the real world and his fantasy world. Within these worlds, you'll come across mementos and special places that meant something to him and his loved one. The objective is to recollect all these memories and find all these places.

The game will change from the real world into the fantasy world from time to time. You'll also find yourself in nightmare worlds when you come across a bad memory. There will be times where you will be chased by monsters, but you can't die in this game. You'll probably be sent into a dead end or some other place.

I'm no music composer or artist, so I'll "borrow" a lot of freeware stuff. I'm not doing this to make a very original game, it's just something I've been planning to do to vent out some feelings of mine. The theme of the game is learning how to let go and say goodbye.

:) This will be a great way to spend my summer vacation.

Anyways, how do you make it so characters look like they're walking through shallow water? I want to do this scene where the main character has to walk through a hallway with water that's waist high.

Rough Draft.

Name: Saladin

He's faceless, but not really. I was basing his clothes on my wardrobe. Tried creating a plaid shirt design, but that didn't work out so well. This sprite will do for now. I'll make him less plain looking in the future, but I will keep him faceless. He'll probably evolve to not be based on a template.

Just posting something small to show that I'm actually doing something.

Hey guys, long time lurker, first time posting. (We're all coming out of the woodwork, aren't we...) Well, I've been working on a surreal/horror/adventure game for almost a month now. The premise is much, much deeper than this, but the gist is you play a young man who wakes up in a strange dreamland. He doesn't remember anything about his past or where he is. During the course of the game, you collect "Treasures", bizarre items that both give you special powers and restore parts of your memory. Unlike the other fangames (or even YM itself), there are some RPG elements and you may have to fight enemies. But, there won't be any grinding or anything like that, nor will the game be all that linear. There are many different "Realms" you can enter, each with a different theme, representing the subconscious mind of the master of that realm. Not all realms will have masters, however. I don't want to reveal too much before the release (I'll release the demo in a week or two) but if you guys have any questions I'd be happy to answer them.

tl;dr: Guy in a crazy world, grab stuff, kick ass. Like?

And another early-game world. Alles is playing the Conch Shell effect, which is basically the flute effect, but you can solve puzzles with it.

In all, I've sprited and scripted a total of 20 effects which will be scattered over about 25 very large worlds.

I'm in the planning / brainstorming phase for a fangame I'm making about a game otaku hikkikomori. I'm trying to combine elements of Yume Nikki (atmosphere, puzzles) with LSD (randomness, 'linking' from one dream realm to another.

Since the main character has shut herself away from everyone and everything, I've decided to make the dream realms based around:
-Items in her room (computer, alarm clock, etc.)
-Her feelings (loneliness, etc.)

The dream realms consist of two parts: the 'heart' of the realm which acts like areas in Yume Nikki, and the 'wastes' which act like LSD (randomly generated).

If anyone has any suggestions for game mechanics or dream areas that could be cool, I'd love to hear them.

Pic related: the main character has weight issues.
