Trying my hand at making a YN fangame.

It's a side-scroller and takes some heavy inspiration from both Yume Nikki and All of Our Friends are Dead.

Not too much done right now. Here are a few screenshots of the establishing area.

Yes, I need a lot of work on art. I'm hoping that this game can improve me a bit.

The art is amusing. Hopefully, you can do something pretty good with it.

Hello everyone! I'm sort of new around here. I mostly just lurk Chans, but Yume Nikki works in mysterious ways.

Yume Nikki (and the polished fangames being made in its tradition) has proven to inspire my subconscious mind to visualize...very strange things. The game deeply affected me, as I'm sure it did for many. I found that my mind often 'shut down' after a while of playing the game, simply overwhelmed by the number of inexplicable things the game threw at me. While in this state, my mind randomly cobbled together its own inexplicable memories and pictures... It is all very creepy, but also very fascinating.

So, I figured it was about time I drew some of these images that are staying with me... No, that's not quite it; the images are demanding I draw them, really. I don't have much of a choice; it just flows out here and there. For this topic, my art is all done in MSPaint; I am quite capable with Gimp and OpenCanvas, but my mind simply demanded I use Paint. Again, it seemed I had no choice.

First up is something I finished up last night. I simply named this creature Gimansho (欺瞞者) or 'The Deceiver'. This is a GIF animation; fortunately, my mind did tolerate my using Gimp to animate the fellow. So do click it open, as what you see in the thumbnail is not all it seems to be...

That animation is pretty good, and I feel that, with skill like that, you seem to be able to make some interesting stuff.

I look forward to seeing more of what you draw from this!

Also, are you Charem from FA, or a different guy with the same internet name?

>> No.3626   [Delete]   [Edit]

I have another drawing in the works, which I would post immediately except that I am inclined to animate it first. It will be quicker to do so than with Gimansho, as it's more a subtle effect. So just stay tuned for that.

And yes, I am the same person, actually! Surprised to see someone recognizing me from around here. xP

I've been waiting for a YN inspired art thread.

Well, I'm glad to fill a niche... Assuming my inspiration holds out! Which it seems to.

Okay, this is another GIF animation, so click it open if you want to see the whole thing.

This is Fudatsuryoku (強さの排水) or literally 'Captive Draining of Strength'. Quite an odd thing... I really drew this in a different style this time. Makes me wonder what the next one will look like...

Also, sorry if my translations have been a bit off; Japanese isn't my strong point. I think I've got them accurate for the most part though.

I'm new to this board and just found out about some fangames. Does anyone have a collection of download links to some of them? I can't find some anywhere.
I'm especially looking for Yume Nisshi and .flow. Please and thanks!

Me: (talking to a friend about 2kki and .flow)
Friend: Someone should make a fangame called "Nightmare Diary"!
Me: ...Yeah.

I've been working on it for a looong time (started it when .flow 0.00.4 came out, I guess?) but I'm so lazy I don't even. Project started on RPG Maker 2k3, but I jumped to XP because I'm not used to 2k3 and, finally, to VX, because XP was annoying me.
Getting some screens up because you'll probably wait a long time for the actual game. This is the title screen.

So yeah, first beta should show up by the weekend or next week, specially because my official/main tester (I KNOW YOU'RE READING THIS, XEHA) is pestering me about finishing it.
The game currently has 12 effects, with about 6 or 7 accessible doors on the nexus with various areas inside, none finished though. Main character is a girl named Asura. The game will have three different endings, but I'm not sure if the first beta will have them.

Derpderp I'll probably take WAAY longer than expected to finish it. I have some maps done but I still have a loooong way to go, since I absolutely hate making tilesets. SPECIALLY for RMVX. That's the only bad thing about VX.

Anyway, some of Asura's effects and sprites:
Normal, Skates (walk faster), Television ( can switch channels), Singer (sings a little 'ooh' in differet pitches), Reverse (her walking sprites are messed up), Deadly (you can attack and walk faster, can only use after you have both Skates and Book), Dreamer (you can sit), Bunny (enemies stop chasing you), Book (ultimate weapon of DESTRUCTION), Loose hair and Endless.
Unsprited effects: Candle (might change to Flashlight but idk), Plushie (looks like a little demon blob thing but idk how to call it), Mad Hatter (drink tea, does nothing else), Rope (become a rope that moves around like a snake).
Also added a random Asura drawing at the right because I have a huge ammount of them.

WHAT?!!?
That was my idea~

>Implying a book can hurt someone

what.

>> No.3262   [Delete]   [Edit]

The Reverse effect was the result of me importing the sheets from 2k3 to VX in the wrong way, so they got messed up and it was funny to see her walking in the completely wrong diretion xD

Also hard-cover books can be used as a blunt weapon! ...You just have to hit very, very hard.
Yeah I didn't have any other ideas for weapons and most of the violent ones are already taken.
And Asura likes to read, so yeah.

The three canon stuff about Asura: She's bipolar, she loves to read and her parents are keeping her locked in for some reason. I usually associate her with madness but I'm not sure if she's crazy or sane. The rest is pretty much floating in the air. I have a general idea of her backstory and the reason for her odd dreams, but I'm not too sure myself.

>Her parents locked her in

That makes sense, extreme bipolar people are very, very dangerous to their environment. Especially if one of those is violent.

>Importing the wrong way

Nice excuse. Hell my idea is unique in the fact that it's gonna revert the now-extremely-cyberpunk egyptian palace to the one where what we want is.

Dear Uboachan, I would like to tell you about myself.

For many years now, I've lived an interesting life. You see, I suffer from a number of psychological issues. I couldn't really name exactly what I have, I've never been officially diagnosed.

Most prominent symptoms are multiple personalities, visual and auditory hallucinations, paranoia, detachment from reality. You know, all of the fun things.

And while I've lived with it so far, and managed to keep other people unaware of my increasingly unstable condition, I've decided to attempt a sort of therapeutic exercise.

I've started to keep a journal of my madness. A way to free my mind of some of it's creations. So far things seem to be improving, at least while I'm writing.

Now, to the point of posting here:

I'm...Not really sure if this is a troll or not, but...Well, another fangame is always good, I guess.
There's absolutely no reason to not be diagnosed. You can keep it a secret from others, and pills help. Some of the people here made some great ideas without any psychological issues.

>> No.3255   [Delete]   [Edit]

>>3253
I'm sorry if I came off as a troll. It really wasn't intended as such.

My symptoms aren't bad enough to prevent me from functioning normally in day to day activities. It's mostly when I'm under stress or something like that.

Certain other family members take pills for minor depression and stuff like that. They were debatably better off before they started depending on a prescription to get through the day.

I'm not really relying on psychological issues to make the game. The journal is a therapeutic exercise, first and foremost.
The game is just because I've wanted to make a game for a while, but was always short on ideas. So why not use the material that my mind is producing anyway? If there's any sort of backlash when making it, then it's easy enough to stop if I have to.

Regardless, coming up with interesting ideas for the game has been quite fun. I'll probably sketch up a few of the abominations I've produced, and then fade into the mass of fangames other people are producing.

Do you base your fangame ideas off of your dreams, or just pull stuff together as you see fit? If so, have you ever had any difficulty expressing those dreams?

To give you an example, I once had a very vivid fever dream where I dreamt I could see a vast field of static noise. Through the noise, gradually shapes began to form, until I could see a vast desert landscape with ruined cities. I felt like I was being watched, so, without moving my head (For some reason I could not move), I tried to push my eyes to my right. Eventually it wrapped beyond where my normal field of vision was and I could see an enormous eye staring at me. Instantly, the eye looked afraid...

I'd like to express this in sprites, but I'm unsure of how. If anybody has advice, it would be appreciated. In the mean time, I'll just post some screenshots...

I'm building my own game, but I'm trying to base it off of my own dreams, including past ones I remember from childhood. It may be a little too early in production for feedback, but I thought why not (And it's 4:00 AM and I can't sleep...)

DreamScape is a game I'm making in RPGmaker2003.
It's based off of Yume Nikki, but is intended to be happier then Yume Nikki.

I've already started on the game, with some progress, but I'm not gonna put it out there in the state it's in.

You play as a girl named Memochou stuck in her house, with the Bedroom, Deck, Hallway, and main room available. All you can do is sleep and watch one TV channel.(Might add a mini game or two.)
Collect the effects from the robot maids.
And eventually finish the game.(Be it in a happier fashion, then YumeNikki.)

(Pic related, it's the main character Memochou)

Hi guys! I'm thinking of doing a little Mario-esque fangame featuring Masada. (Sort of like Super Marisa Land, I guess?) I'm still planning it out right now, but I'm thinking I'm going to make each world based off a Yume Nikki world. One problem. I don't know all the world off the top of my head. XP Here's what I have so far:
-Monochrome
-Hell
-Dark World
-Forest World
-Snow World
-Neon World
-Block World
-Mosaic World
-Numbers World

If any of you could help and tell me the rest, I'd be super grateful! :D
Pic unrelated, I just really like Chowder.

Hi, long time lurker, first time poster. I got this idea last night, while trying to sleep.

You play as a colorblind-from-a-young-age hikkikomori, who's been chosen as the first subject for a drug that may be able to restore color to their(I haven't decided their gender/appearance/anything) vision.
The side-effects, however, make it rather psychoactive, thus causing them to have odd dreams, in assorted colors. As they get more effects in their dream, they begin to see more and more color in the world as they're awake.
I've been thinking of having multiple endings to it, mainly dependant on how many dream denizens you kill(There'd be a way to get around all the denizens to get to an effect). The, er, numbers aren't set, just an idea.
0-5 killed= Good end, they regain the ability to see color in a normal manner, and are really happy with this.
6-15 killed= Decent end, colors are a bit distorted, and they're indifferent.
16+ killed= Bad end, real world's colors are very distorted. As the doctor comes to check them, the character kills them, as their vision makes them resemble something akin to the game's toriningen.

I like the sound of this, but if you're making something black and white, for the love of god don't literally make it uncolored.
Add a teeny tiny tint of color in the B/W to rest the eyes on, unless you're making a monochrome level.

>> No.2253   [Delete]   [Edit]

>>2244

It's not going to fully be black and white, a lot of grays, maybe a few blue hues in the real world.

The dream world would probably be damned colorful, though.

... I should try drawing some concepts up.

>> No.2852   [Delete]   [Edit]

OP, just saying, I love this idea. Keep up the good work!

>> No.2879   [Delete]   [Edit]

I've been trying to still get some ideas down; I ended up with this huge sheet of paper of... things I doodled. They looked like dream-creatures, certainly.

I think I might do worlds based off colors; Not effects, but worlds. A greenhouse world, something...

I also have this urge to sketch a tea-party in the sky.

The only thing is I'm still stuck on how the protag would look/be named/etc... That and, while I can draw, I'm only good at editing sprites. I could attempt scratching, though.

... God, this came out more as a ramble than a progress thing. xD
