Hey guys, dunno if anyone remembers, but sometime last year I posted my fg idea here. Unfortunately I lost all my files due to my hard drive dying and me being too dumb to have a backup.

Well now I have some time to re-make the game, now with VX. Shown here is the sprite for the player character, Lilith :)

It will have a plot somewhat (more interaction with characters and whatnot)
The gameplay is kinda like a mix of Yume Nikki and the Chzo Mythos series (exploring, with story elements and lots of brickshatting stuff)

Basic plot is: Lilith gets infected with an unknown virus, putting her in a coma. In her dream world, a masked scientist named Dr. I tells her to find parts of the virus that has infected her so he can make a cure for her. And so, the player goes around Lilith's dreams looking for virus parts and gathering effects, which are optional but will be helpful later in the game.

I'm going to need some coding help for VX though. Acutually, a lot of help for vx lol... I have effect ideas, but I have no idea how to code them. Any help is much appreciated!!

Thanks for the feedback so far! I've been remaking the sprites, turns out they were waaayyy too small for VX (she looked like a little spec on the map)
Dunno when I'll have V0.01 up yet, I'm going to work on graphics first before I code.

I just made a thread about this, and then quickly deleted it because it was a stupid question, but I was using RPG maker VX and I couldn't make the levels loop like in YN. I then realized there was a button, and I quickly erased it. I scrapped VX 'cause it's a big pile of shit, and now am working on the infinitely superior XP... and there is no button. How do I make it scroll and loop like in YN? Pic... uh... unrelated, I guess.

That's one of things I ran into a while ago...
If you're going with an exploration-type game (which I guess you are), just make large levels with the necessary things (escape door, teleport NPCs, whathaveyou) near the center or the sides with more interesting things in the open areas for the players to discover.
Anyway, good luck. XP is a lot better once you decide what you want to do with it.

Looping, open levels are really annoying and practically impossible to do right anyway. I haven't played a single fangame in which they were enjoyable, and they weren't that great in YN in the first place. And trying to be similar to Yume Nikki shouldn't really be what you're going for in your game. You can have a game centered around exploration without having huge areas just because they were in YN.

It will be different from Yume Nikki, I assure you. I think most levels will have fences around them, although the levels that I WANT to be hard will have a very tricky system... I was thinking of putting teleport events on the walls, thus making it VERY easy to get lost. Only on a VERY small amount of levels, and only when it is used to make a point.

Well yeah... Hypocrite much but Im sorta making a little thread for my fg...
But not like the others that go all "Hey look at MY fan game IDEA!" No, I already have my ideas and all I need are a few opinions... Maybe when I actually get stuff done I'll post screen shots and such here but for now, its just opinions... Also I still need to make that RPG Maker help thread but I lost my links...
Here is some basic background: Our little friend over here is the main character, Irotsuki. He enters the i guess "Dream World" by staring into a mirror... yeah, Its a little odd ut this is what I need help on... I cant decide between the possible Titles for the game!

I was unoriginally originally call it "Yume Jiko," Dream Self according to Google translate.
Then I thought I'd call it "Purple Mirror." For those who dont get it, its some Japanese Legend thing saying how if you remember the phrase Purple Mirror till your 20, you die. Yeah, Im actually gonna have alot of Touhou refrences...
The last Title I have in mind is "Phantasmagoria." Not sure if I spelled it right. Im actually planning to have somewhat of a story to my game and this title coukld explain a few things...

Well Uboachan, what do you think? Im open to other names too if you guys have something else in mind. I wont start geting you all excited by talking about the actual game until I actually have something to present. Unless you guys really want to...

For the better I hope. since I only ever get to go on a computer once every two weeks or so I probably wont be able to creat much progress though... Also I have a folder filled with about 50 pictures that I though were pretty, decent, and useable. I can create a few worlds from this...

Update thingy...
Well I decided to make the game from scratch now instead of using .flow and Nisshi as bases. Which means the game will be filled with crappy sprites and such. I also decided to get rid of a bunch of "unoriginal" Ideas and world and was inspired to come up with new ideas and event.
Also working more so I can get a laptop soon, but now I dont really go out to take more pictures as often... They are also not as good as older ones... Might just create some new worlds from these.

sobsobsob My thread is so neglected!
Since idk how to sprite, it takes me forever to make one tile of a tileset... Also scraping some ideas like the main character and gonna try to make a new one, and that takes time too...
But anyway, I decided to get rid of the nexus and make it so when you enter the phantasmagoria state, instead of being transported to the nexus, a series of images would flash by and after pressing a key, it would stop on one image and each images would be its own world. Most of it will be random but after you collect all the effects in one world there will be a smaller chance of being randomly taken there. Also new worlds can be unlocked after certain things and events...
Got inspired since I can never choose my dreams and phantasmagoria is a series of flashing images..
Would that be more frustrating than cool...?

Yes, yes, you've probably heard something about it. I can safely say I already know it sucks like hell and all that, but somehow I had to make mirrors for the game download.

Anyways, this is Dreamscaper, current version, you probably know that already. The graphics suck, I know, though I did my best.

Alright. The very first thing I noticed was that the main character was a recolor of urotsuki's Twintail effect. Not very impressive, but nonetheless she's still cute. I'm assuming she's goth...
The game uses a little TOO many of the "mosaic" hide screens, but again a very little issue.
I liked the balcony, and the room was cool, though small.
The nexus only has 4 doors, but it's only v0.00 so all is forgiven for now. I've only gone into one door. It was the top right one. In there I found a thing with a nail in it's head that I couldn't interact with and a crowbar. I got the crowbar only to get an error message. Missing file error.
Guess I need to open the game and see what's up.
I'll explore the other worlds later. There's only 10 maps so it's not like it's gonna be this huge adventure, but I'm hoping it's at least SOMEWHAT enjoyable.

i couldn't open it either, it seems the archive is damaged, and i can usually open .lzh files as they're just another archive format.

Hey Uboachan. I have a problem. I've been trying to run Yume Nisshi and Hallucigenia but continuously I have been getting the same error. Can someone help? I apply the patch of each of the games and still nothing.

Alright, for Nisshi, just open it with RPG Maker 2000. Press F8 and go to "System". Where it says "vehicles" select "set" and select any sprite.
As for Hallucigenia, try opening it in RPG maker as well and go to the same "system" screen. If in the bottom-left corner the "initial system graphic" box is empty, fill it. (do the same if the vehicles are missing, too)

Hi there. I need ideas for a game I'm making.

The basic story that I have so far, is that you play as 2 people in this game : a girl's ghost and a guy. The girl died and can't remember much about anything, so you start playing as her and wandering around, until you find this guy, and somehow (haven't decided exactly how yet) she saves the guy's life.

Then the guy (also somehow) finds a way to communicate with her, and decides to help her get her memory back..

I need more ideas to fill in the blanks for the story.. I'm still figuring out some creepy ideas to put in when you play as the girl (since you'll be dead the world will look a little bit diferent).

Pic related, it's the girl sprite. I did not like it at all so I might change it but I guess it's ok for now.

For the gameplay, It's going to be a platformer.

Well a large part of mos platformers are the enemies and the fast-paced dodging of their attacks/killing of said enemies. It doesn't exactly sound like the best genre for the story you have, but I do have some ideas of how it could work. It's hard to tell just how it's going to play from what you've said so far, though. Could you tell us more about the ideas you have in mind?

Well, the main idea is having the ghost girl explore the 2D world, whilst trying to find out who is she and how she died.. this would be the basis. You would get some memories (represented as a wisp or something) and the more you collect, the more you remember.

Maybe it would be better if the game was totally based on the girl, and she had to defeat some dark bizarre stuff to gain her memories back..

I'm sorry if I sound confused, it's just that I have so much ideas about it that I have trouble picking one and going with it..

Well I have played some excellent platformers that had no real enemies. Things like Knytt Stories, Seiklus, and the like. I'm thinking the best way to go about it as a platformer would have it puzzle based or metroid like (as in powerups give you access to more areas). I don't see why you couldn't combine the two either. If you decide to go for metroid style, the powerups would probably come in the form of the whisps you collect. Maybe not cheesy standard powerups like run and high jump, but logical ones, like limited floating (realize you're dead), or access to previously unknown areas (remember where something was, and thus the path opens for you). Actually, that last thing could be the entire game, in which you have levels that have a mystery revolving around the girl's past to solve, and once you solve it, she remembers another place that has another mystery, and thus gains access to a new level.

It just doesn't sound like you should have actual enemies you fight. Maybe game ending traps if you do something really stupid so as to keep a challenge, but not enemies. A game that focuses on it's atmosphere seems to be the way to go here.

Finally, I don't think you should scrap any big ideas at this point, like the guy who the girl saves. Honestly I can't tell too much of where that's going from the limited info you've given us, but that doesn't mean it can't be implemented or is bad. Of course, this is just my opinion, and you're talking to a whole board. I suggest you get more responses before you decide on anything for sure.

Any tips?

This is good, but, Antgirl...
Whenever I equip another effect, then go beck to equip the previous effect, I get the unequip animation... how do I make the game think that I'm equipping it anew again?
