Hi Uboachan. Just thought i'd drop by with a game im working on. The basic premise is that basically you're a earthling escaping from earth since it's no longer habitable, kind of unoriginal at first, but it gets better. Planet is hostile, in fact so hostile that the weakling humans can't live there! So in order to survive in at least some manner, they bio-engineer a (somewhat) human that they believe can survive on the new planet. And that's all the story i'll tell for now.

The idea for this game is something i got when i read two books by by the Scottish geologist and author, Dougal Dixon. The books in question is: "After Man: A Zoology of the Future" and "Man After Man: An Anthropology of the Future". I highly recommend them if you're into sci-fi or are interested in how humanity could end up in the future.

Also the pictures i use here are from the book.

Thanks for the positive input. It makes me all fuzzy inside. Really.

About some of the grammar mistakes, well shit i missed it not once but twice, shame on me.

And next, the walking through walls, fixed it, just a simple case of forgetting to change tiles.
I also changed the name of the music file. It's weird though, it works perfectly in my game.

And about controls, since the game is made using RPG maker XP the controls are pretty much set in stone, unless i wanna change every single event using scripts. Instead of enter or space, C also works, which i forgot to add in the info on controls (i did just now though). Dunno if that's better but more options won't hurt i guess.

Hopefully fixed version:

Oh yeah, and about the endings, it should be pretty clear when you're done, there's a screen that says "THE END".

Just so i'm sure this stuff works, did anyone try the download in >>8563 with no errors?

Hey, people.
I know you're probably tired of these kind of threads. "omg i maedz fangam". But really, screw that.

I'm working on a game inspired by Yume Nikki, although with slightly different gameplay.
It's called visions.
I have a few ideas already, but the main premise is that it is not centered on effects, but rather on exploration.

You start your room, which has a balcony. If you try to leave the room, the character shakes his head. SO ORIGINAL, right?
Instead of going to bed to see the crazy shit, there's an item in the menu called "Close your eyes", and another one called "Open your eyes". When you close your eyes, you enter a different version of the room you're in. Think of it kind of as Lights-on Poniko room (eyes open) versus Lights-off Uboa room (eyes closed). In some areas, you can't open them. And you can only leave the starting bedroom/save the game with your eyes open.
This picture is a (temporary) title screen. It looks way too creepy, and I'm still not fully set on the overall tone of the game. Plus it makes it seem like a .flow ripoff, which it isn't. It will be made in RPG Maker 2003, since I already have experience with it.

I'm currently working on the nexus, it's nearly done, I'll post a pic when I'm finished. Then... I actually have to do everyfreakingthing else. BUT I'M HAPPY WITH MY PROGRESS.

It's good to be happy. =P
Good to hear progress is being made.

I guess I'll make a comment about that window now: It's so weird and stuff, but somehow it just seems too interesting to get rid of or even scale down. I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way. (this >>8521)

Hey Uboachan, I've been working on a Yume Nikki mod for Half-Life a while now. I'm just uploading some screenshots of Madotsuki's room. Any ideas or help modding would be greatly appreciated :P

Extremely sorry for the lack of updates. Multiplayer progress has been going smoothly, and our artist is doing a great job on the character textures.

I think I'm going to move this project to ModDB once the fated video is finally released. When that happens, I'll just let the thread die and you can see more frequent progress updates from there. Until then... suggest any ideas/suggestions. Please, there's been a lack of those lately :P

Yume Nikki really doesn't work well as a 3D first person game for me, but I appreciate your effort.

There we go with a fangame that wasn't even announced before release, therefore no one gives a damn, N'oublies Jamais. It ain't your average "walk the shit out of your dreams\% insert_state_of_consciousness %" stuff, it is rather a protest against such fangames. Came out pretty shitty though, but at least it is different in a way.
So yeah, about the game - you're playing as a boy, Al Ree, who is well aware of his ability to manipulate reality through his dreams. The thing is, he cannot make himself to dream a dream like "and everyone was happy", but rather has to deal with what dreams he gets, doing something in it and hoping for the best. Order through chaos, you might say.
Five endings, -very- short length, somewhat original concept, lo-fi quality, made by just two persons. There you go, anon, give it a try.

Still no idea. Looking for the wrong piece of code in that random digit generator is like looking for a burnt-out lamp in a straight connection chain of 30 equal lamps without an ampermeter.

The story is about the beginner Teacher and her 5 students.

In the school trip they take up quarters in traditional Inn, an old and mysterious woman gives to the teacher an amulet. On the first night, the teacher fall asleep and enter in the Dream World. Basicaly you play with teacher (at first) helping out your students in their dreams, every character have 2 worlds: the dream world and the nightmare world, to reach the nightmare you have to take a skill in the dream.

I'm having a go at creating my own Yume Nikki styled fangame. It's called Slumberjack. The idea for this game basically comes from that pun. It's the story of a lumberjack and his dreams. Discovering the dreams will show disturbing things that lead to him becoming an isolated lumberjack living in the middle of the woods. I decided to go with a non-female character...not sure if that will turn people off or not.

Everything is in the beginning stages. I am using this to improve my pixel art, and I have a feeling I'll be using better more creative digital artwork in the future.

Here's what I have so far. What does everybody think? Any and all feedback appreciated.

-going to start making other characters and nova. Does anyone have a blank sprite guide for rpgmaker?

-I have carpel tunnel so spiriting is fucking painful. This game may take awhile.

Some time ago I get a certain idea. As many of you gets better and better with creating games, why won't we start doing series of short, creepy games like Nocturne (http://uboachan.net/og/res/1787.xhtml#i1787) ? Rather than creating giant games that usually tend to never come out finished, we could start creating short scary, creepy and disturbing stories. From my own experience, I can tell that creating one game like that would take around week, or two.

This world lacks games like that, thus we could try doing something about that. Especially now, when holidays are coming and many will have a lot of free time.

So, what you think about that movement?

I tried, got some work done on one but forgot about it until now honestly.
If I got the hankering I might try again.
If you had a story ready, this sort of small-scale project wouldn't take too long to code at all.

I got the hankering again. I have no idea how to scare, but I can at least make a weird short game. I've been addicted to Tower of Druaga recently, so expect it to be close to that in a way.

Uh, I browsed and googled, but nothing definite appeared - how do I make random events in RM2K? I mean, if I want, for example, a randomizer for switches' positions? I mean, I only need one of them be "on" at a time. Well, I tried it this way: I put two events on the floor and set them to "On Touch (Event, Hero)" and made'em this way: first event turns switch 1 to "ON" and switch 2 to "OFF". The second event sets switch 2 to "ON" and switch 1 to "OFF". And next to those two I put the third event (a dog, lol) that should've run to and fro, activating the previous two events in turns. Yep, a strange way to make a randomizer, but... it doesn't work! I put another event that appears when switch 2 is on, but t never appears, even though dog actually runs over the event that must turn switch 2 on. Looks like that "touch" thing works on "hero" only. And when I step on that switch-changing event myself, I end up stuck, I can't move one but, not even turn. What am I doing wrong? Is there any other way to make a randomizer?
Pic unrelated (dog tho)

Since you are encountering problems with it, I would avoid that pink block. I've never really thought or worked with that particular block to my knowledge- so I would just leave it a nice transparency color.

The green tiles are your autotiles.
They come in 3x4 tile blocks- corresponding to the different shades of green used in that previous graphic. They are in the layer 1 group, and pretty much act like their layer 1 counter parts- they don't animate however like the water/autoanimate tiles group.
I'll make a text diagram to help indicate how they ideally should be drawn.

Starting in the middle x of the first row, is the first tile- it's the tile that appears when you draw only one of these tiles. It's also used as the representative tile in the tileplacer in rm2k3.

Ive made the sprite for the main character, but RPG2003 is saying its an unsupported PNG file. How do I fix this?

>> No.8648   [Delete]   [Edit]

>>8647
Could be something else, but i'm gonna take a educated guess and say that you need to make it 256 colors.

>> No.8676   [Delete]   [Edit]

>>8647
Get Paint.net, if you aren't using that as the primary sprite making program just open the bmp or png in it and resave it, you'll be prompted to save it as a few kinds of bits. Correct choice should be obvious.

One you've done that, import it with resource manager and select transparency color and you're good to go.

Yup, I just played the newer version and both the square t-shirt (stop effect) and the blue one were included. Now the files include 2 new effects which im again not sure if they're actually IN the game or not xD

Also the newer version includes new map areas and ive seen 2 random events (one of them blocks your ability to open the menu so you're supposed to just close the game after it xD)
