Hey yume nikki fans, I’m here to tell you guys that there is going to be a fangame here opening up hopefully by this December. Though I’m not going to go in full detail about it right now, I thought I should let all of you know you should be watching out for "Anarchy".

I also want to say, if there are any of you out there that have ideas but can’t make the games, send us your idea(s), we may or may not use it; and don’t worry, if we do use it, you’ll get your credit.

If you'd like to follow us on Tumblr or check up on how things are going in the game, as well as a glimpse at some of the monsters or music, etc, then go ahead here-


While we're still in the beginning stages we have started this up in hopes that everyone will anticipate and enjoy the game.

We do ask, however, that no one steals or uses the images/items there without linking us back.

Since /fg/ seems to be less "hey guys look at this jap fangame" and more "hey guys look at my fangame p.s. plz help with this and this and this" I've decided to start a general help thread. There's already a thread for programming help, use that rather than bumping your own thread with questions: http://uboachan.net/fg/res/4116.xhtml

Please use this thread for questions and critque for your graphics, music, character/level design, testing etc. Trying to make your own resources is recommended, but if you absolutely cannot make something original and good on your own even with help with it, ask for resources here (as long as you don't expect your entire game to be made for you). Posting links to helpful tutorials and programs you know of would also be very helpful. I'll start:

Really one of the best pixelling tutorials I have ever read compared to the trashiness you'll usually find, and VERY relevant to this board. Although it's a little outdated and melodramatic, the concepts learned here are more in-depth and helpful than anything else I've seen. Lots of text to page through, but if your pixelling isn't up to par (and honestly, a lot of what I've seen isn't) you need to give this a read. (Hint: it's more than one page.)

This is the official thread for Dream vs. Dream, the upcoming 2D fighter based off YN and its fangames.


Status: Currently recruiting artists. Having a lot of difficult finding an artist who can offer an affordable price for me to work at. It appears as if my BG artist randomly jumped ship (I didn't pay anything yet, so lucky me!) Placeholder HUD graphics are currently being worked on. Ralren has just been hired as the Misc. Artist and is doing fantastic work, as you can see in the thread. Still looking for a special effects artist. Kipper is helping out with character portraits, they're looking good and we've gotten 2 characters worth done! Scenery Suggester is currently working on special images for locked and unlocked characters; all of them for Yume Nikki are completed! And finally, Mathew is helping out immensely by coding the game with a new engine. This will no longer be made with MUGEN, and thanks to the new engine, there are many things that are now possible that weren't before! Moveset production is still ongoing, with 22/40 characters completed. Also, Aya from Hallucigenia has replaced Inspiration's Alex as a playable character.

Well, that sounds interesting enough. Maybe it'll be the other way around, with the black Aya floating behind the white one since the battles take place inside the dream world. As the white Aya moves, the black Aya will flip pages (she's controlling white Aya by progressing the story) or point and make commands.

Color effects will probably not be that useful as moves. Although color and the lack of color seem to big themes in Hallucigenia, so maybe one of her bigger attacks will involve bursts of color, or draining color from the world.

And most of those effects sound like really interesting abilities, particularly the sand dune or the mollusc thing. I'll have to download the game to get some visual references for these attacks once I get to her moveset. I think Aya will provide a much more interesting moveset than Alex.

Do you still need artists? I'd be glad to help out. I can do portraits animaitons or bgs. I havent done much sprite animation, I mainly do stuff in flash or photoshop, but I could learn.

Another question from someone wanting to make a game.
What's a good program for composing music or creating sounds? I have Audacity but I have no stock music/sounds and I'd really appreciate a file with footsteps, knocking, stuff like that. For the music, anything where I can put in the notes and change around the tone, etc. Sorry I'm so clueless about this.

And is scripting on the level done in Yume Nikki incredibly hard? I mean, I'm not trying to make my game as good as it or surpass it, but I'd like to try to make it a little interesting and engaging.

Ah Macs, they are so unnecessarily difficult.

to see if any of those might work better for you.
Also, for sound effects- just google it. There are a ton out there that basically copy off each other anyways.
You can also get some effects out of the RTPackage for RPG Maker 2003 which work just as well as anything you might find.

I have recently gotten some really neat fanart by ozuosoroshii, or Mr. Goodcat on my friend's tumblr. He replicated my art style really well, I have to say. I can't be thankful and happy enough to have support and motivation for this fun project.

Progression on Bizzare has been going very swell recently, in other news. I have finished an ending, and I'm off to the next other two endings.

Hello all, it's been a very long time since an update, but unfortunately version 0.02 has not been released as of yet. However, there will be very big changes within the game itself, such as better collision detection, more reliable menu mechanics, and other graphical improvements.

  • Collision has been updated, as said before. You will not collide with walls on your head anymore, and collision boxes are much smaller. (Tree trunks for example).
  • You may now pull out the knife, and actually walk around with it. Try talking to NPCs, and see what happens. I'm sure something different will happen if you had a weapon in front of them.
  • You may interact with NPCs now, using the Shift key. You no longer need to touch them to make them emit sounds and animations.
  • Introduction maps (Before the Dog Room and the nexus) have been either redone or have been revamped.
  • There will be three new "branch" areas in this version, along with 3 - to be determined endings.

So anyways...
I googled Dormilia and found these...
...and decided "hell, why not"
I've already worked with sprites and simple game programming in the Game Maker, and I've had some experience working with music synthesizing programs.

...and this is certainly something I won't lose interest in.
...that and the fact that I can't even figure out how to crack open YN in order to sap some of the basic code. I don't have time to figure things like that out. So it would be much appreciated if I could get some pointers on how to get this thing off the ground. :)

P.S. do you like the sprite, or should I go with the more traditional style, but keeping in mind that Dormilia is not a traditional character; not even a _tsuki.

the only thing wrong with that sprite is that her wings are way too low. Wings usually grow from the upper back.

What sort of game are you going for, first of all? I mean, you can't just make a game out of a character with no idea to base around it and expect it to turn out well.

The sprite looks nice, but if you're not going for the chibi/tsuki style, I'd say you made her a bit too short.

As for free time, really, if you just have maybe a couple hours or so every couple of weekdays you'll have plenty of time, I've been working on a game in Game Maker myself and have made a ton of progress over the past two weeks despite only getting a few hours out of every business day.

Hey, I've been working on this fangame for about a month, I'm working on my first world and it's almost done (there's a maze in the first world so most of my time has gone to that) It's at a very early stage but I've already come up with a story for it. Though I won't tell unless you ask, and if you do I won't tell a lot because it would give things away and ruin the fun.

It has a dark ish atmosphere and has lots of random blood slotches everywhere.

I did almost all of the pixeling and music. I got most of the sound effects from freesound.org. Me and my friend also recorded the scream and laughing sounds.

Any opinions/ideas? Does anyone want to volunteer to help with the music or pixeling? (Though it's okay if nobody wants to) :)

I'm working on a (complicated) map for a new Bigger Sub-world! It's an aiport place that connects to a maze ish hospital (which the design for it will be pretty, kind of, original). I'm working for the design for the hospital design now and will get to pixeling the tiles wayyyy later.

Broken bottles gets little amounts of love. :c

I'm almost done sketching the hospital's map and what each room is gonna look like (which is lots of work). I'm also planning to make it kind of like a wandering maze like thing. I hope to make my game a little bit easier to navigate than Yume Nikki's looping worlds and a little harder to navigate than .flow.

Platform: PC/rm2k3.

This is the very, very first cut of an adventure game I took a month to cook up, and a day to cobble it all together as it is now.
It's filled with a ton of errors and broken areas, but it is finish-able!

The game has quite a ways to go, but will eventually come to a final product with some amount of enjoyable gameplay involved. Right now, it's all walking around and talking.
All tilesets/charasets are custom.

Hope you enjoy what little there is to enjoy of it- and I guess notify me of any major problems so that next time around they are properly disposed of.

I just decided to check the board, for kicks, and saw that yr already underway unveiling these new ideas!

This is fantastic and exciting. It's great to see there is support for the game too.

If yr up for it, I wouldn't mind posting some music up for the folks to hear. Although, I was thinking of mostly scraps and turned down pieces, as to not spoil the game, unless you would want a bit of a teaser-taste.

Just finished another game called 'Safety'

it has no music right now- so when you play it, I'd try listening to some Brother Android, or Mogwai. Or whatever you like listening to.

i'm sick and pretty delierious so there are probably more bugs than cans of raid in the world in this game, but hopefully it's playable

I've always wanted yume nikki to make sense so I was like "what the hell, lets make a visual novel". Since I suck at drawing myself, I decided to make the avatars with "loli maker" (<- reason why the girls all look flat xD). The story of the game is basically this.

A highschool student sees madotsuki falling from the sky and goes to see her dead body. At that moment, he loses conciousness and mado tells him that "his dream will do for now".

Madotsuki's orders are to follow anyone whose problems make them mix reality with dreams. She gives the protagonist the ability to recognize this people by making them have their eyes constantly closed from his point of view.

Basically you recognize the person, enter his/her dream world and steal their dreams in order to save them (or thats what mado makes you think at least xD)

if anyone's interested in helping with anything (art, dialogues, ideas in general) feel free to do so. if anyone is interested in trolling, I'll feel free to ignore you -w-

well there's someone like 3 pages ago who proposed the same I did only he actually described it as "high school harem" (this one isnt even set in a school, cuz stuff doesnt happen there and no girl ever falls in love with you xD), someone suggested a uboa-themed mario game, also a yume nikki pokemon hack once and I can't find the thread for that weird japanese game which included madotsuki for no real reason xD

There are Mario themed games for everything, most of them not sucking.
And I think a Yume Nikki-mon would actually have some potential if they included NPCs from various fan games, even if there was no story.

well apparently it has to lack a story cuz yume nikki has none and any kind of story at all will just automatically suck for people xD I mean gensou only had 1 cutscene and it was just like 5 lines of corny dialogue xD so unless you make a pokemon hack with no text at all people will still hate it -w-

What the fuck guys, why is there no Amnesia thread, this is probably my favorite Fan game not for RPG Maker and maybe even second to .flow

Not that hard of a game, and no giant, vast, empty world. It has a mini game, Nezu, not that hard if you arent stupid, although the minigame in previous versions was waaaay better IMO. Has some BGM and 2 possible endings so far.

Someone want to tell me her name... Also Fan art for great justice.

ok theres a bug in the good ending where the sepia and cube effects dont disappear from my inventory when I put them on the drawers but somehow the door opened anyways (originally I forgot to put the woodcutter and thought I was done for cuz my inventory wasnt empty xD)
