(This may have been brought up before...but oh well.) Me and my bf were talking about lucid dreams today and he mentioned that he read that one of the way to "check" that you are dreaming is to flip a light switch in the dream. I find this to be directly connected to Uboa/Poniko and the light switch. Because you have to turn it on and of, she was trying to control her dream and check her lucid state and what Uboa could represent? I find this very interesting. (and lucid dreaming itself very interesting)This is an example from online:"The Light Switch Check: This is usually a quite reliable check. Find a light switch and turn it on and off. If it malfunctions then the odds are you are dreaming. Try it several times and pay close attention to when it should be on and when it should be off. It usually will not take long before it malfunctions or operates correctly while in the wrong position."On this website, look under:"Here is a list of the most effective reality checks:" (this website has a lot of lucid dreaming info)http://www.consciousdreaming.com/lucid-dreaming/how-to-lucid-dream.htmWhat do you think? This. I've been having a lot of dreams recently that all follow the same pattern. I'd be sitting in my room at night, then I'd start watching a scary movie or read a scary website or see a scary thing with the corner of my eye. I'd freak out and try to turn my lights on for a little peace of mind. The lights wouldn't turn on, I'd realise I'm dreaming, try to force myself to wake up, the room disorts and melts, I lie in sleep paralysis, bombarded with hallucinations for a few seconds, and wake up with a violent jerk. This has happened about seven times now, VERY unpleasant, game me a little phobia of sleeping but a big insight on dream checks. I think Kikiyama definately knew about these and the experiences dream checks can cause.
Every time I go into lucidity (which is becoming more and more often these days), my body jerks violently and I get kind of tingly all over. As soon as I realize that I'm dreaming, it literally hits me. Maybe Kikiyama was trying to portray that feeling through Uboa's appearance?Or maybe I'm the only one. :|

Well, I've found that light switches rarely ever work in dreams, lucid or not. Light always seems to stay constant. Another weird thing I've noticed is that mirrors never reflect in dreams.Things like light switches and mirrors that are simplistic in nature but are complex in interaction are hard to emulate in dreams for some strange reason.I've noticed in most of my lucid dreams that once I come across a mirror, it's always blurry when I look into it. Or they tend to not reflect things behind me and show things as if they were a window to a different room.

>>1005Oh god, even worse when your face is weirdly disorted in a mirror.
cool story bro
>>1005I've also read that mirrors do not work in dreams. It also mentions the mirror as a "check" when you are dreaming.Look under:"Here is a list of the most effective reality checks:" on this website about lucid dreaming for more info. http://www.consciousdreaming.com/lucid-dreaming/how-to-lucid-dream.htm Last edited 10/05/22(Sat)15:46.

>>1005Mirrors work for me, but in the wrong way usually-- I'm typically able to interact with my reflection, and it moves and behaves independently of me. It's oftentimes even dressed differently, and on two occasions, an entirely different person.I never see lightswitches in my dreams. Ever. I have no way of conducting a reality check within my own dreams, lucid or not. Last edited 10/05/22(Sat)19:52.

>>1006Oh god I hate that. Hey, if you think about cute crap all day, maybe your reflection will look like something cute in a dream? Works for me. No scary reflections so far. at least, that i remember.>>1011Then you can use that as a reality check. What have you been doing so far when you see a room with no light switch? I would think im dreaming instead of going to the owner of the house and saying "Your room has no light switch! What the hell?"

>>1005Mirrors usually transform me into what it reflects. It's normally myself but distorted but not enough to scare me. I even turned into a robot after seeing myself as one one time.
>>1014Considering the kind of stuff I dream about (see /yume/) looking for lightswitches is usually the last thing I'm even able to think about.
