OP: Just bumping to let everyone know that I have NOT abandoned this project. I'm just a bit... occupied with other things, so I don't have much time to work on it. But I promise I'll upload some new screenshots soon.

I've been mapping and coding all day, and the engine pretty much at this point has been converted into a wake/sleep system. More screenshots soon, after I tackle the dark world.Also, I know I'm not showing you any new stuff, but notice how much more "to scale" this version of the room is. Also, notice Madotsuki's hand poised to pinch. Derp.

Ok guys, I have a job for anyone who wants to help or be a part of this project but doesn't have any Half-Life modding experience. As you can see, I've been going through the game files and converting parts of the images to Half-Life compatible textures. If you want to help do this, download the zip I've attached and follow these instructions:1.Crop out a nice area you think can be a good texture. If its tiled, make sure you crop a tileable part of it.2.Scale the image by a factor of two (In mspaint, you can do this by first changing the image attributes, then selecting everything and pressing Ctrl+plus). If using a better image editor, don't use any fancy filters when scaling, make it look "pixelated".3.(IMPORTANT STEP) Make sure that the image dimensions are multiples of 16 (e.g., 16x16, 36x48, etc). If it isn't a tileable texture that you're grabbing, you can just extend the image size and fill the area with black. Stick with a anime version.And personally, I'd stick with one style type for now and add another type later if you wanted. People are going to third person this game constantly due to the aesthetic nature of the effects. Which means if you do two style types, it means double the work on madotsuki, and whoever else will be appearing in this game.

I'd say realistic. With any luck, you may even attract more people in the series this way as well!
Anime. Yume Nikki is definitely more anime-esque than realistic.
I'm gonna go with anime-ish style. Realistic doesn't seem like it would really mesh well with YN's colorful trippy atmosphere. Since styles change all the time in YN (8-bit area anyone?) I think realistic elements could be implemented in certain areas that deserve it (like the sewers) and less realistic in areas like the Neon World.

>>7737This.I'd say it would be best to just try to create a 3D version of Madotsuki's sprite rather than redesigning her altogether. From the look of the screenshots, a realistic character wouldn't really fit in.

I think it would make the game more interesting than if the characters were straight-up anime or realistic (I'm not sure I can imagine what mado would look like realistically anyway.) If you were to pick a more anime-like style, I kind of imagine the characters in a style like Serial Experiments Lain, if you've heard of that. It has its own combination of realistic and anime style elements that I think kind of fit with the feel that yume nikki has.

yeah i say keep the style like the original game, or stylize you existing proportions similar to the original game (realistic-ish proportions but smooth undetailed textures and faces that fit the frames). realistic and anime is so over done it's not oc anymore. and yume nikki deserves to be oc. also in yume nikki it never seems like anime style. just cartoon. kikiyama is the 1st japanese person to ever not draw in anime style... EVER!
Realistic wouldnt fit with most of the game. Model clshing is the way to go. Very different styles, sometimes in the same area... Perfect if you ask me. Pic unrelated.
It would come out much faster if made for Zdoom instead.
