I've noticed most Nikkiades (as I've come to affectionally refer to any Yume Nikki-like games... maybe I finally coined a term?) have main characters with names ending in -tsuki, regardless of any relationship the name has to the moon. Can't we leave the -tsuki termination alone for a while, and choose more interesting or meaningful names for the main character in our fangame?

...Wow. Speaking of words that end in tsuki, after a quick research in WWWJDIC, I found some unused words ending in -tsuki that are way more interesting or meaningful than most I've seen around. Some are even funny:草付 【くさつき】 (n) patch of plants or shrubs (e.g. on a steep rocky surface)運の尽き 【うんのつき】 (exp) out of luck; end of your rope保障付 【ほしょうつき】 (adj-no) guaranteed; certified; warranty included曰く付き 【いわくつき】 (n,adj-no) with an interesting history (story); with a shady history; with circumstances that are difficult to explain落ち着き(P); 落着き; 落ち付き; 落付き 【おちつき】 (n) (1) calmness; composure; presence of mind; (2) stability; steadinessお付き; 御付き 【おつき】 (n) retainer; attendant; escort思い付き 【おもいつき】 (n) plan; idea; suggestion気付き 【きづき】 (n) awareness原付き 【げんつき】 (n) scooter; low power "motorized" bicycle (motorised); moped焦げ付き 【こげつき】 (n) a bad debt腰付き 【こしつき】 (n) gait; posture言葉付き 【ことばつき】 (n) wording面付き 【つらつき】 (n) expression; look庭付き 【ていづき】 (n,adj-no) having a garden手付き 【てつき】 (n) manner of using one's hands縄付き 【なわつき】 (n) criminalに付き 【につき】 (exp) per; apiece; because of; regarding; (printing) impression; sociability; appearance寝つき; 寝付き 【ねつき】 (n) quality (ease, difficulty) of one's sleep火付き 【ひつき】 (n) kindling a fire; lighting a fire紐付き 【ひもつき】 (n,adj-no) (uk) conditions; strings attached; restriction; restrictions; controls札付き 【ふだつき】 (adj-no) tagged; notorious; double-dyed; hardened筆付き 【ふでつき】 (n) brushwork窓付き 【まどつき】 (n,adj-f) window (e.g. in an envelope, box, etc.); aperture役付き 【やくづき; やくつき】 (n) holding a position of responsibility病み付き 【やみつき】 (n) being addicted to; being wholly absorbed by寄り付き 【よりつき】 (n) opening session; anteroom顔付き(P); 顔つき 【かおつき】 (n) (outward) looks; features; face; countenance; expression狐付き; 狐憑き 【きつねつき】 (n) spirit possession; one possessed by spirits肉付き; 肉づき 【にくづき】 (n) (1) bodily build; degree of fleshiness; (adj-no) (2) strapping; buxom

Actually there are some fangames here where the main character's name does not end with 'Tsuki'For example, Alex from InspirationZi from SomniaAl Ree from N'Oubliez JamaisIDK about the character's names in the Ridiculous Hallucinations game, but I bet it don't end with 'tsuki'Isoshiki from Madoro-muIDK about the guy from The Passing, but his name might be an english characterJade from Hostage DiaryMay from MayNatalie from DreamscaperSabitsuki actually means 'covered in rust', it has no relation to the moon whatsoeverAnd there are other plenty of fangames where the character that has a name that does NOT end with 'tsuki'.

>>4394>Sabitsuki actually means 'covered in rust', it has no relation to the moon whatsoeverI know that, I was talking about the termination, not the reference to the moon.Madotsuki itself doesn't have relationship with the moon, it means "aperture".

Uh... my fan game character's name ends with "Tuki" and he's a boy...His name means "Wolf Moon" which is obvious if you were to play it. I agree, there is a lot of "Tsuki's" in fan games, but I figure eventually people will run out of names that can end with "tsuki"...
OP has a point, but I feel that the -tsuki thing is merely to show endearment to the game they are making their own game in honor of.It's also like the close-eyed thing. I just sort of seems like a norm, y'know? However, I would still encourage people to challenge themselves creatively in their endeavors. Fangames don't have to be just like the source material. It can be completely different (well... maybe not too different, but pretty different, at least)Rambling. I am tired and I am rambling :S

>I've noticed most Nikkiades (as I've come to affectionally refer to any Yume Nikki-like games... maybe I finally coined a term?)I usually say 'hasei', that means 'derivation'. They use 'Yume Nikki Hasei' in Pixiv for the fangames.>>4394>Sabitsuki actually means 'covered in rust', it has no relation to the moon whatsoeverEvery name has a meaning. Usotsuki is 'liar', Urotsuki is 'wander'. Etc.Also, Jose and Kazaguruma from Kudaranu mousou no / ridiculous hallucinations / crap delusion.Aya from Hallucigenia.Kazenori from Solitude. We actually thought about using -tsuki on his name tho.The 'tsuki' thing is more like a homage to the original game. Like most fangames use edits from Madotsuki's sprites, or most have closed eyes, etc. I don't see it as a problem, and it actually makes it easier for me to relate the characters. Also, names don't have to be meaningful. Madotsuki didn't mean anything other than the fact she has a 'window attached' to her shirt, did it?
