Do any of you guys ever think that Yume Nikki should have no sequels? I think the game doesn't need a sequel, it seemed perfect as it was. Discuss.

Kind of hard for there to be a sequel anyways. It does need more spiritual successors, though.
1) Game needs to be completed.2) I don't care I want more content. The end.
No sequels sounds fine.We know what happens to Mado in the end, and another character would be too copycat.
Not so much a "sequel" so much as an Umineko to KIKIYAMA's Higurashi would be great.

>>371I think it'd be best if he left her story ambiguous. Leaves a lot more to the imagination, which is pretty much what Yume Nikki is all about. The main problem I see with fansequels is that they sometimes try too hard to seem to have a deep meaning or something. They focus way more on the story than they should. The game should be left vague, it should be full of surprises, it should be more surreal and less forced symbolism.I think if KIKIYAMA made a sequel (with a different character) that in his own way, it could be pretty good.

Madotsuki kills Madotsuki. I don't see how a sequel is possible, unless she ends up in some sort of time loop like in Higurashi. What a strange mess that'd be.There's a lot of room for fan games though. Yume Nikki really took the exploration genre back to its roots by removing goals and hints. Moreover, the whole dream world seems held together by an underlying theme that no one can exactly place their fingers on. It's really the creative process of your imagination that makes Yume Nikki truly enjoyable, and the best way to get this process going is interpreting someone else's dreams. That's what I believe makes a Yume Nikki fangame.

Perfection can't be duplicated or improved upon. I wholeheartedly agree a game like this shouldn't have a sequel. I'm almost against spin-offs too. But people brought up the Umineko/Higurashi thing.
I definitely don't think it needs a direct sequel, or even a prequel, but spiritual successors are awesome when they're done right. But if Kikiyama does make updates and add more content I'd pretty much cream my pants forever

Sequels, no. There's something special in things that start great and die young.More content before it's considered "finished" is alright, though.
