So next year, I plan to make something "Yume Nikki" inspired with some friends from college. Thankfully for the fact that I can get some help with programing and whatnot, I could work on making a updated graphic version of the original if I'm able to. Or I could just make a fan continuation to it. Ah, the beauty of a video game centered school.Anyway I just wanted a little advice on what I should do. Last edited 10/02/07(Sun)15:25.

Wouldn't an updated version beeee....iunno...kinda...illegal? O_o
>>1754Ah, dammit. Well, I guess it's on with a fan game of it then. So any advice on that?
>>1754How so? Is "Yume Nikki" a copyrighted game? If so, wouldn't that make "Yume 2kki" a little illegal? As far as I can understand, Kikiyama has not had a hand in the "sequel" and it doesn't seem the team has been served a cease and desist.I say go for it, Viva. Just make it clear who the original creator was. Or do a fan game. I think, personally, I would want the latter. Either way, I will be looking forward to what you produce.

>>1756Meh, If anything the updated version would have better graphics, and a few other things. I also thought of a different, or alternate end...but I doubt many people would want that.
As far as legality goes, remaking Yume Nikki isn't any different than making fanart as long as you're crediting the original and not profiting from it.I'm personally thinking of making a 3D Yume Nikki, just as an experiment for now to see how the gameplay would translate. I'm not much for coming up with something interesting so I'll probably just stick to remaking the original a bit. If I get the hang of it then I'll consider branching into originality lol
